delurker
Excellent football finance analysis site the Swiss Ramble has audited Celtic and the financial gulf between them and e.g. EPL. Some graphs with figures for all SPFL Prem clubs show clearly that Thistle have the smallest income and pay the lowest wages in the division. http://swissramble.b...gone-green.html
Richard Nixon
I don't understand how the insane money pumped into the English Premier League can be at all sustainable. Every TV deal is ridiculously inflated above the last.
stillresigned
The EPL to me bears most of the hallmarks of a 'bubble' which is sure to burst eventually!
Veejag
Every time the EPL get an increase on their TV deal my mind goes immediately to Tore Andre Flo and the fact that a Scottish club once had £12m to spend on a player. We all know what happened a few years down the line... Can't wait to see the English game implode but I reckon that will mean the actual (not just talked about) formation of a Super League. potty trained
The EPL to me bears most of the hallmarks of a 'bubble' which is sure to burst eventually! If anything it could be the opposite! The Secret Footballer talks about the plans for the future, where eventually you will be able to buy club specific TV season tickets, and further down the line 3D glasses that mean you'll be able to choose a camera position that reflects a seating area in a stand. Richard Nixon
I can't wait to strap on some 3D specs to pretend I'm watching Stoke City versus Sunderland from row ZZ of the third tier.

Don't knock it, how much would a Nomad pay for a Thistle Sky season ticket with a 3D view from their old JHS seat.

Jaggernaut
Re: the link: the fact that we spent the lowest amount on wages doesn't necessarily mean that individual players received the lowest wages. For example, if our overall squad size was smaller than others, then individuals' wages might actually be higher than at some other clubs. It would be good to see the stats (especially on attendances) for the season just finished.

Only if they ignore the reported attendances at Celtic Pk and for that matter in Dingwall, where I'm not sure how they arrive at those figures. Perhaps they total up the number of limbs? javeajag
The EPL will not implode....the trend of rising TV money is not new it's happened every year since sky started so it's not a bubble.....anyone who has been in Scandinavia, the Middle East or Asia will know that the EPL is the nearest thing there is to a global league....the overseas TV rights are almost as much as the UK rights We can't even get stadiums that look ok on TV, fill them or play decent football
Zaphod Beeblebrox
Yeah can't see the EPl imploding. The fact that the new deal they just done was so massive is because sky were running scared of bt sport winning it. While there is that competition the price that sky or another broadcaster will pay will continue to rise. In Scotland there is no completion, Sky, bt & maybe the bbc are just all happy to pay a price and be done with it but they certainly aren't going to try and out bid each other. Maybe would be different if u had a strong rangers team to compete with Celtic but that looks a long way off. Also interesting to note that while the EPL gets so much money they still don't attract the top world class players who seem to prefer Spain or Germany. Perhaps at some point the international viewing audience will realise that, and stop watching the EPL?
Diego
the trend of rising TV money is not new it's happened every year since sky started so it's not a bubble That's exactly how bubbles work, they get bigger and bigger until they pop. US house prices grew and grew for twenty years before 2006.
