Then again, Somner would hardly know what the definition of a lone striker was. It's a tricky one... I've long considered "the fearless Dougie" to be my favourite ever Thistle player. Still is. I'm serioulsy wondering if he'll still have that crown when the time comes for "first-touch Kris" to hang up the boots. Let's just call them two Thistle legends! A tricky one? More tricky than the trickiest of tricky things. Think about the number of goals Dougie laid off for others (like Joe Craig) or Dools's defensive clearances when we're defending dead balls (at least two crackers yesterday). "Jimmy McGowan was the epitome of rugged, 40s and 50s full-backs. He played almost 550 matches for Thistle and numerous press reports are testament to his ability to come back on after treatment - often when he had been stretchered off. It took something "special" for him to miss matches - such as broken ribs or appendicitis. The Evening Times reported that against Hearts on 17 January 1953 while he was off the park for treatment, a spectator was heard to say 'Ach, it's only a broken spine. Roughie had 17 shut-outs in 36 league games in the old 2nd Division-winning season of 1970-1971 (47%). I'd imagine that would be tough to beat. Fox I think maybe had 14 out of 29 league games (48%). Not something we really want to be dwelling on today of all days. btw I guess Veejag is going to come back with most clean shets in the top league. I'd certainly like to know. I'd certainly like to know. Yes, earlier this season I was speculating that this was a gettable record for the impressive Tomáš Cerný, but I think I cursed it. He's currently got 4 out of 13 (30.77%). He needs 10 out 21 to equal, it's a big ask... George Easton's Jags were the meanest ever in the top-flight around 100 years ago. They were the only Thistle side to ever register 15 or more and they did so on 4 occasions: Season 042 1916-17 - 17 out of 38 (44.74%) Season 041 1915-16 - 15 out of 38 (39.47%) Season 043 1917-18 - 15 out of 34 (44.12%) Season 046 1920-21 - 15 out of 42 (35.71%) As far as individual goalies go, these are the Top-Flight Top 8: Season 046 1920-21 - Kenny Campbell - 14 out of 38 (36.84%) Season 056 1930-31 - Johnny Jackson - 13 out of 38 (34.21%) Season 040 1914-15 - William Campbell - 11 out of 36 (30.56%) Season 042 1916-17 - James Ferguson [ii] - 11 out of 26 (42.31%) Season 045 1919-20 - Rab Bernard - 11 out of 32 (34.38%) Season 047 1921-22 - Kenny Campbell - 11 out of 34 (32.35%) Season 099 1973-74 - Alan Rough - 11 out of 34 (32.35%) Season 119 1993-94 - Craig Nelson - 11 out of 39 (28.21%) Roughie had 17 shut-outs in 36 league games in the old 2nd Division-winning season of 1970-1971 (47%). And so, the superb run of results continues... with many interesting stats angles on the go this mornin'... roll n bacon, skinny latte, tasty : - ) 19.12.2015 Partick Thistle 1 Ross County 0 (SPFL Premiership - game 18) Banzo shoots to the top of the assists chart with his 4th of the season. Amazingly, he's registered 3 competitive games-in-a-row and, on a personal level, in each of his last 4 appearances. He's the first player to do a personal 4-in-a-row since my assists records began in 2013-14. He's the third Jag to do the 3-games-in-a-row since promotion, following in the boot steps of Christie Elliott (May-Aug 2014) and Kallum Higginbotham (May 2015). As happened in the corresponding fixture of last year, a Staggie turns one into his own net as Thistle win to nil. The Dingwall side have now provided 2 of the 3 SPFL og's in the Thistle goals for columns. Thistle win 4-in-a-row in the top-flight for the first time in over 38 years. Thistle have been upwardly mobile in the top-flight table placings for 4 consecutive games. You need to rewind back to October 1977 to find the last time that happened. Firhill's lowest League crowd of the season is re-set at 2,762. Back to back top-flight wins with clean sheets are rare for the Jags in the modern era. Yesterday's was only the 7th occurrence post-75. Archie's Jags have now registered 2 of the 7. Bertie's boys done it twice, Cormack's lads once and Lambie's lot twice. Willie Thornton's Jags were last to go beyond this point, winning 5 consecutive top-flight games to nil in February-March 1968. Thistle are now 3 pts ahead of their same-stage position of 2014-15. For the second consecutive season, I find myself considering the remarkable possibility that Archie's Jags could set a post-75 club-record for the greatest gathering of top-flight points. When applying 3 points per win across all-seasons, Thistle's post-reconstruction best is currently 1.31 points-per-game, which was first set in 1977-78. The current PPG of 1.28 is on course to be the best since Bertie's era. For context, Lambie's best was 1.19, set in 1994-95. Should Thistle go Top 6 on boxing day, Archie's Jags would grab a share of the all-time club record (at any League level) of 5 consecutive table progressions. The existing record was set in 1930, and equalled in both 1932 and 1961. To do such a thing in a small 12-team League would be incredible. [see spoiler] Victory at home to St Johnstone on boxing day would see Thistle win 5-in-a-row in the top-flight for the first time since January 1972. They once went 195 league games without a 1-0 win (Nov 1924 to Dec 1929. There are only 4 examples of 3 back to back 1-0 league wins...
