Jaggernaut
A great final last night, with Australia looking the more likely to score, but Japan's defence and especially their brilliant keeper (Kawashima) refusing to budge. Into extra time, then suddenly a cross from the left sees a Japanese player almost alone for once just inside the penalty area. As sweet a volley high into the corner of the net as you'll see in a long time. Cue the wild celebrations over here!

jaggy
What continental tournament would you put the Israelis in...? Well as Israel is in Asia I think you can work out the answer
kni
The aussie are always almost men. Thre fans must be as infuriated as scotland fans are. they're both similar for the amount of glorious failures they have. They kept just missin gout on the world cup. Probs coz they had to play a play off against south american teams though Football is well behind rugby (union and league), cricket and Aussie rules in the priorities of Australian sports fans. kearny_jag
What continental tournament would you put the Israelis in...? Seen as their government is constantly bombing Palestine's stadium I don't think FIFA should allow them in any tournament
sigesige00
I'm surprised sigesige00 hasn't posted about this yet... I did not watch the game, because I was hit by flu and in bed.
sigesige00
By the way, if my memory is correct, the SFA (Scottish FA) and FAI (FA of Ireland) ran a joint campaign for hosting Euro. How many stadiums are required for hosting Euro? Scotland has 4 international-sized stadiums. How many does the FAI?
sigesige00
The player who scored Japan's winner against Australia is Lee Tadanari (李 忠成), former Korea Republic national and played for Korea Republic in the youth competition. But he chose Japan and became Japanese national. The one thing I am disappointed is that he does not use correct Roman spelling -- his family name 李(리) must be Ri, in both systems used in Korea Republic and Korea DPR. It is very regrettable that many Koreans do not use correct spelling. Other example is Park Ji-sung of Manchester United. His name should be Bak Ji-seong. sigesige00
Is that like a drive by shooting? Is "hit by flu" a strange English? How should I say? "I got flu"?
sigesige00
Why is it very regrettable? Isn't it just a transliteration issue, like Tsingtao/Qingdao? Translation should be linguistically correct. And both governments in Korea have regulation on correct spelling.
