Lochhead is out of contract and trying to win a new deal with us. He could have been the young trialist who played in central defence against Fleetwood Town today. lady-isobel-barnett
Surprised that Gaston didn't feature today given the publicity. Also Boyle nowhere either. Can only surmise that the Sinclair transfer (and perhaps extra money needed for Balatoni ) has left us skint. Can't imagine that Jack Boyle could be assessed on his performance solely on that Blyth pitch.
twinny
Can't imagine that Jack Boyle could be assessed on his performance solely on that Blyth pitch. A couple of people have said this. Perhaps it was clear he wouldn't cut it from the training last week, or maybe he is still in contention for a spot but had a niggle that kept him out. Southampton website has him listed as a midfielder so there might still be a place for him.

Brennan appears to have been assessed on his performance on the Blyth pitch (and training too) and then released. The Balatoni loan deal appears to be dead as we cannot afford Hearts' terms. Jackie, in his Glaswegian interview, rightly said that defensive cover is his main priority.

Oddly, whatever you think of their merits as goal-scorers, we have plenty of forwards which is very rare for us. (Doolan, Stewart, Grehan and Fraser, Burns and Donnelly in emergencies; Erskine can play forward too). Midfield we're OK with 4 experienced players (plus Stewart or Donnelly in an emergency) and the good thing here is that Campbell and Bannigan could already step into the team no problem with MacBeth not all that far behind. Defensively however we've only got three experienced players which means this could be a weak point for us (though Rowson can fill in CB or RB in an emergency). But unless we get an experienced loan player in we're going to have to hope that we don't have too many problems here with injuries, so on. The addition of even just one experienced (not necessarily that old) defender who can play a couple of positions would make a big difference to us. Ideally, we need a right-back and a right-footed central defender. We would be in trouble if Paton and Kinniburgh were out at the same time. There is the possibility that Jackie, like Sid, could play in an emergency. Is he keeping up his fitness in training with the squad?

Probably right sided at that. Even then we could still be a bit of a liability over on the left. Lindsay is raw and, just going on the 75 mins I've seen of him, Sinclair may be more of an attacking full back than a last line defender. If Archie misses out on Wednesday night due to his knock or only plays a wee while I'd imagine we'll have a clearer idea about the level Lindsay and Sinclair are at just now. It would tho' throw up a bit of an imbalance if we had to get another left sided defender in.

Dark Passenger
We would be in trouble if Paton and Kinniburgh were out at the same time. Jamie Campbell could slot in to the right-back position.
Mr Bunny
Jamie Campbell could slot in to the right-back position. Yes he could, and any of our more inexperienced youngsters could fill in for a more experienced player for a game or maybe two games. But if players like Paton and Kinniburgh were out for say 4, 5 or 6 games due to injury they very well could stuggle. Last season we had Robertson who could play right back or centre back. So we had an experienced player you could trust to fit in anywhere. And Balatoni, though young was a wee bit older than our other youngsters and a bit more physically developed. If we could have got him back it would have been good because he'd fit into the team right away having played a good few games for us. A real problem for us is that we've brought on youngsters who can play 3 midfield positions and two forward positions but we've none that are ready to play first team in defence. In fact we've had to bring in new youngsters from other teams to make up this deficit. If we bring in another youngster for right-side defensive cover I'd hope he'd have at least been out on loan for a season to another club and playing regularly. twinny
It seems that the BBC have given up reporting on SFL transfer news - http://news.bbc.co.u...v_1/default.stm There have been no updates for ages. This 'Sportsday Live' - breaking news as it happens seems like a front to tell us what overrated footballers have for breakfast via twitter. If we cared that much that Joey Barton thinks it's ridiculous he can't get a visa into the USA we'd have twitter accounts and follow him. The BBC need to look at the depth of their coverage, as it seems they only care about the Premiership and Championship these days. The least they could do is a division ins and outs for each professional league in the UK.

Actually, I've just seen this. Up to date in real terms, however the only transfers I can find involving Scottish League clubs are to English League clubs. Think it's missing a lot of SPL moves too. Dick Dastardly
Falkirk's Ryan Flynn looks to be on his way to Sheffield United. The Bairns are going to have very few senior players left by the start of the season.
