  1. One of the advantages Croatia has is that it has many players playing abroad. We seem to be so transfixed with our local and the English setup that players are not encouraged to develop that additional experience, and the English game, for all its financial attractions, is still to some extent based on fitness rather than footballing skills.
  2. It sets the tone for the start of next season. Not to mention celebrating tomorrow just after losing to a part-time side. You don't need a degree in psychology to see the effect of that. I honestly hope that some very harsh words are said by the managers after this game.
  3. Exactly. Not just that, but after getting the taste for blood back just when needed, we decide it's time to go soft again. That's a terrible way to end a season - losing to part-timers by being disorganised and wasteful.
  4. Wouldn't it be better to play with a defence? A sharper opposition would be out of sight by now. I know there's little at stake, but some attempt to cover the midfield defensive area, for example, would reduce the number of Montrose attacks. As for leaving Penrice with the ball and five opposition players around him but no support......
  5. Past it, surely, and then there's the cloud of tax matters hanging over him. Surely we should do what so many Scottish employers have done and go for the hard work and commitment you get out of a Polish worker. What's that Lewandowski up to just now?
  6. o tempora! o mores! 12.00 am (ante meridiem) is indeed midnight - 12 hours before (ante) midday, as is 12 hours pm (post meridiem). In Latin, the correct time would be meridies, but noon or midday is usual in English - both of which are, er, 0 hours from the middle of the day. As you've also contravened the Gaelic spelling rule, which, as any fule kno, is: leathan ri leathann is caol ri caol, leughar is sgrìobhar gach facal san t-saoghal, it's a double yellow card and early bath for you, I'm afraid. Fasces, surely? Better off without those: cards are more civilised.
  7. A note of caution : they're more likely to be played at 12 noon, when it's light, than at 12 hours post meridiem which, as Mr Robert Reid would I'm sure be able to tell you, is 12 hours after midday - despite Micro$oft's best efforts to convince the world that Latin doesn't count: it does, if only to 12 most of the time!
  8. The throughput of youngsters has, by all appearances, dried up. The first team is dependent on old journeymen and young loanees - not a long-term solution, even from an economic point of view.
  9. The playing squad desperately needs fresh blood. At the moment we're relying on loans and persuading old players known to the expansive managerial setup. The club hasn't managed that side of things since Bobby Dinnie retired.
  10. He's certainly not a centre back. Defensive midfielder, maybe, or even sweeper in a different era, but he dwells too long on the ball and gets caught in possession.
  11. Frankly, Graham and Gordon between them contrived to bring about a win for Dundee United: both their chances should have been dead and buried. Why can we not get players to put away their free shots at goal? Did these young men not spend most of their boyhoods "shooting" off a barn door or a wall? We could effectively pick up a handful of lads from amateur leagues (never mind the Highland League or similar) who are capable of putting away easy chances like that. Apart from that, early in the first half it was obvious that Graham was going to be ineffective, and Rudden should have been on at that point. Subbed far too late.
  12. Letting slip those two opportunities. Still, ending up the first half on top. Scrappy play from both sides, though.
  13. Thanks. It turned out to be something pretty inscrutable, after a bit of toing and froing with support. (Once access was gained, it was just to video which was a white screen, but hey-ho!
  14. Does anyone know how to retrieve the password? It's as long as my arm, DEMANDS TO BE IN CAPITAL LETTERS and has no relationship to the season ticket card, the seat number or any other memorable detail. Oh, and the FAQ from the logon page is a broken link.
  15. One of my favourite memories from football: it was just so weird.
  16. The whole online presence - including the two near-identical Android apps.
  17. That's probably optimistic. Let's face it - pandemics take at least 2 years to die out, and this one is global. Even with everyone getting vaccinated, assuming that second vaccinations are actually done, at the current rate in advanced, sophisticated economies in Europe and North America it will take well over a year, and we don't even know how long immunity lasts. IMHO mass gatherings for entertainment will be off the agenda for another year at the very least, unless an alternative medication to vaccination is found and distributed quickly. (There is research into it, but nothing has been announced or publicised.)
  18. Admittedly, I know next to nothing about the BLM or the organisations involved, but isn't the knee thing empty symbolism, like clapping health care staff instead of paying them properly? When does it become redundant, or is it now a set behaviour that must be adhered to in the way that grace before meals is to the religious?
  19. No pace - and that's the supposedly full-time professional side. Deciding to take the ball out to the wings, which minimises the threat to the opposition, is then followed by the inevitable cross into the centre, where, as often as not, nobody is actually waiting for the ball. Even at that, scrambling the ball into the net is so last-century, but it seems to be the management team's method of choice.
  20. Not working for me, although it has before. The feedback form is fun, too: no username beyond 15 characters allowed, although, obviously, 12 are already used.
  21. Anyone else finding that the usual sign-on isn't working? I'll try persevering with lower case too, as well as using another browser, clearing cache, etc. The club's online presence is a mess.
  22. Isn't Zlatan looking around for a challenge?
