Jaggernaut
Definitely Shawfield. Hellish place to watch a game. Lights obscured the view, terracing steps were "shallow", pitch was narrow and the game was all throw-ins. Number 6 is Andy Kerr. Thankfully his number is showing and although he played at Shawfield 5 times, he only played once at left-half. 28 August 1955 in the League Cup (0-2). Ledgerwood, McGowan, Gibb, Thomson, Davidson, Kerr, McKenzie, Harvey, Crowe, Wright, Henderson. Could the other Thistle player be Bobby Gibb? Â Bye the way, crowd was "12,000." Jaggernaut
From the left not sure who's behind the post, might be Colin McAdam, Andy Anderson, Ian Mckinnon, "Roger" Whittaker, Roughie and Alex O'Hara at Broomfield obviously. Â To round off this one: October 24, 1981. Airdrie 1 Thistle 1 (Clark). Crowd 3,500. Airdrie finished bottom and we finished second bottom; both got relegated from the 10-team Premier Division. Jaggernaut
The easiest way to identify the match and the Thistle players here is probably to start with the non-Thistle player! Â ETA: That's not a young Archie in the background. Â Â Edited January 23, 2015 by Jaggernaut

ETA: That's not a young Archie in the background.   Could be way off here but I'll start the bidding with Willie Ormond playing for Hibs. Not certain it's Firhill. (What are these vertical poles? No floodlights on the roof.) Easter Road?  Looks like Billy Cunningham in the background but can't find a match these two played in to narrow things down.  Correct on Willie Ormond.  It is Firhill. I'd guess those poles were for lights for the greyhounds. It's definitely not Cunningham. a f kincaid
Agreed. Forgot about the dogs. Still think it's a dead ringer for Cunningham - but it can't be!  Ormond played in 10 games at Firhill between Sept 1949 and March 1956. Haven't looked any later than that because the dog racing stopped sometime in 1954 so presumably by 1956 the poles had been taken down.  In 8 of these games McGowan was No 2. Kerr once and Husband once. Ledgerwood was the keeper in 7, Smith twice and Henderson once.  The dates are:-  21.1.50, 19.1.52, 13.12.52, 18.12.54 (but it doesn't look like December/January)  17.9.49 20.4.51 11.8.51 9.8.52 20.2.54 31 3.56  Perhaps narrows it down to a possible 6. Anyone else?

Anyone else? Â Nice one. Â Stu's got it labelled as March 1956, and the original caption identifies the 'keeper as Willie Smith. Â So it's March 31st, 1956, 1-1 (Jimmy Davidson), crowd 23,000 (!!) Â That makes the No. 2 Andy Kerr. And from the squad photo, I'll go for Johnny MacKenzie as the player in the background. Â The floodlights must have been installed some time after this match, maybe at the end of the season?

a f kincaid
NO! Â Stockings and badge suggest any time between 1909 and 1925 (possibly 1927). Â Opposition could be Aberdeen or East Fife (both played in black and gold stripes).

Opposition could be Aberdeen or East Fife (both played in black and gold stripes). Â That's pretty impressive, afc. Title gives it as Firhill, 1915, vs. Aberdeen. Â Feck it,....I'm gonna take a look at the squads and have a go at identifying the two Jags. Â ETA: There is no squad photo for that season (in the official history book), so maybe forever a mystery. The squad photo for season 1917-18 identifies only Alec Raisbeck, but all the players are identified for season 1920-21, and three outfield players played in that Aberdeen match in 1915: Hamilton, McMullan, and Bowie. No obvious likenesses with the players in the above photo, however. Edited January 24, 2015 by Jaggernaut

I assume the Thistle players are forwards! Look at his photo on page 45 of the OH.
whitburn
The game at Shawfield.....it looks like Tiger McGowan and it looks awfy like Willie Sharp in the background (I know he's no been quoted on the team on a previous post but it looks like him) and of course Andy Kerr.....Ian Archer's favourite Jag. a f kincaid
Jaggernaut: Mystery solved. Â The pink hue of the photo is the clue. It's from the Sunday Post 3 October 1915. a f kincaid
Looks like Morton at Firhill with Rough, Whittaker and Jardine in the picture. That narrows it down to 2:- Â 27.10.79 and 8.11.80 Â Think it's Nov 80 because the guy on the line looks like Jaimie Doyle. Â 0-0. Rough, Doyle, Lapsley, Campbell, Whittaker, Anderson, Park, Clark, O'Hara, Watson, Jardine. (Torrance.)
JeanieD
Not Firhill - but Cappielow I suspect (look at the height of the wall).- possibly the 3-1 win at the end of 1979?
jaggy
looks like Cappielow to me as well as the wall is far too low to be The Shed, possibly Jamie Doyle on the line
