If it's that game, it was a joy to be there, and your answers look right to me. Cairney had a great season or two with us, moved on, and his career largely fizzled out after that. lady-isobel-barnett
If that is Paddy Boyle then it has to be a bit earlier. Think the "ignis" top was also before the hattrick game.

partickthedog
I'll stick with Paul Cairney, Rab Douglas and Paddy Boyle, and accept that I was totally wrong about the rest! I still think that Paul Cairney was the most reliable finisher I have seen in a Thistle shirt. Strikers such as Scott McLean, Kris Doolan and Brian Graham have scored a lot, but also missed a few. If I had to nominate one person to finish off a one on one to win a prize or save me from disaster, I would have gone for Paul Cairney. Amazing to think that we lost him, but the squad still improved massively in the close season prior to 2012-2013.

A rare goal from him! Enjoyed the crowd noise and a wee burst of "Glad all over". Funny to see away fans in the North Stand.

Jan 1938 a 1-1 draw with Bobby Johnstone in goals. One of the bumper holiday games that saw the local engineering works see 200 or so staff down tools at lunchtime and go to Gayfield.

Jaggernaut
I seem to remember that Alex Rae was/is often referred to as an "old head" in the 1971 team, but in fact he was still in his twenties! Got to point out Alan Hansen's comment (admittedly in a different context) that you can't win anything with kids..... What was the average age of our 1971 LCF team? Average for the 12 players was under 23 years old. Average of starting eleven was 23yrs, 9mth. Taken from http://www.thethistlearchive.net/match-1971-10-23 Hugh Strachan was the oldest (32), and the only player in his thirties. Alex Rae was just 25.
