Massive day for everyone who has an interest in the history of this great institution that we all cherish...

...we recently researched the correct birth date of JOHN BLAIR the immortal, whose goal won the Scottish Cup for Thistle in 1921. Today is a perfect day to announce this, together with a big update to his life story... as he was born ON THIS DAY in 1897 in Saltcoats!

John Blair →

To celebrate, the famous letter of 1921 becomes the 20th item in our virtual museum. But what was his Scottish Cup win bonus talked about in the letter? The esteemed Robert Reid reveals all...

The John Blair letter @ The Archive Museum →

We REALLY wanted to secure all the birth days in time for the 100th anniversary of the cup win a couple of years ago, but one player always eluded us. Perhaps it was meant to be, as we'd have been wrong about John Blair back then. FINALLY though, we're ****-a-hoop to have nailed down the birth details for MATT WILSON, the last (and as it turns out, the youngest @ 19!) of our Scottish Cup winners to be ID'd. American immigration docs were the key which unlocked. His 'Bio Extra' entry is greatly expanded upon today...

Matt Wilson →

And so, on the 126th anniversary of John Blair's birth, we're very proud to present your 1921 Scottish Cup winners, the starting eleven now fully aged for the momentous occasion. This is Thistle history being written; better late than never, eh?

Partick Thistle 1 Rangers 0, 16 April 1921 →

So by my reckoning on a transfer balance sheet Squiddy cost us £2999 in total. :D

eta. Just realised many on here may not know the score re Erskine's January move to Livingston. The then Board didn't want to piss the fans off any more than they were already doing. So that an "unknown fee" would be registered they insisted that Livingston pay a fee for Chris of £1.

Needless to say his nickname with his new teammates was changed to Quiddy.:)

Hi, everyone. A Friday afternoon drinking session has thrown these couple of queries up in the air.

Firstly. Have Thistle ever played two consecutive competitive domestic fixtures so far from Glasgow? Roughly we're speaking here of two round trips totalling 725 miles.

Secondly. I read somewhere that Balmoor is further from any mainline railway station (Aberdeen) than any other senior football ground in the UK. Is there any football club in the UK that has its ground closer to a mainline railway station than Ross County?

Apologies all round to all sober posters on here. :)

This is not a direct answer to your question regarding consecutive competitive fixtures. However, as regards consecutive fixtures in the same competition, I can recall that in the Dick Campbell era in season 2006-2007 we had consecutive away ties at Ross County in Dingwall and Deveronvale in Banff. My calculation is that the round road trips total 743 miles.

My memory tells me that both games were won 0-1 with goals from John Robertson and Jimmy Gibson respectively.

As regards rail stations Kilbowie was very close to Singer, our former ground at Meadowside was very close to Partick West, and Cathkin was but a poorly directed goal kick away from Crosshill station similarly Station Park Forfar is well named - common theme seems to be that combinations of these grounds, clubs and/or stations no longer exist. (The same might apply with regard to Ibrox and "Ibrox/Copland Rd. subway station with regard to the demise of that club but that is perhaps a conversation for another day).

Yes, several times, if you class 'FA Cup' & 'Anglio Scottish Cup' as domestic. Otherwise, it's the second longest two-game jaunt in purely Scottish terms. Based on distancecalculator.net's town centre to town centre mileage...

Per below, today we're very pleased to be introducing another 24 seasons of reserve team matches, from the mid 1930s to the mid 1950s, complete with potted match reports wherever it's possible to do so. Interestingly, Thistle Reserves were third tier champions in 1954-55 but the SFL rules prevented promotion for second string clubs!

1932-33 1933-34 1934-35 1935-36 1936-37 1937-38 1938-39 1939-40 1940-41 1941-42 1942-43 1943-44 1944-45 1945-46 1946-47 1947-48 1948-49 1949-50 1950-51 1951-52 1952-53 1953-54 1954-55 1955-56

Looking ahead, a reminder that we're still searching for information about a couple of missing reserve fixtures for season 1980-81. These are Queen's Park (A) and Rangers (H). Dates played not known. Also, if anyone has programmes for the following matches we'd be grateful if they could contact us so that we can pick up anything by way of reports these programmes might contain. Programmes were not sequentially numbered so it's not possible to tell if they were all issued:

Rangers 6/8/1980
Queen's Park 27/8/1980
St Mirren 3/9/1980
St Mirren 13/9/1980
Rangers 12/1/1981
Celtic 29/4/1981

Many thanks.

With Thistle v Dunfermline (30/9) Thistle v Spartans (1/10) fixtures being dedicated to 'Her Game Too' this weekend, now seems like a very good time to be launching our latest pages dedicated to the Partick Thistle Women's team.

We're delighted to present the internet's first comprehensive match list for the Partick Thistle women's team which has been going from strength to strength since its formal inception as 'Thistle Weir Ladies' back in 2014. 11 seasons of competitive results and detailed league tables now at your fingertips. We believe the lists to be complete in terms of competitive fixtures, and we may yet strive to add the friendly matches played, so if anyone can help in that regard, please do get in touch →
