Jaggernaut
It's looking more and more like the Pars will be re-joining our world next season. I've been wondering: Who would you rather have playing for Thistle, given their form now: Buchanan or Doolan? Boyle or Sinclair? Hardie or Cairney? Dowie or Robertson? As things are at present, and with an eye to the future, I'd take our current players every time.
1 John Lambie
I'd take all our current players, but Hardie (if his legs aren't totally done) could still be a great signing for a young squad.
chunky jag
Definitely the players we have just now - never saw the fuss with Buchanan, decent enough wee striker at first division level, too injury prone, I feel Doolan is better all round player. Boyle is a steady defender at this level, I've seen a few goals that the pars have conceded this season with someone running off Boyle at the back post for a tap in, he's nowhere near an SPL player, remember - McCall was trying to punt him 2 year ago. Rid Skwerr
Now if it was Buchanan or Stewart.......... No contest - come back Liam !
Guest fredthecheesecloth
At their absolute best...Doolan, Boyle, Hardie, neither At their 'normal'...Doolan, Boyle, Hardie, neither. May look very unfair on PC who is a suprb player, but Hardie is in my book the best attacking midfielder who has been at Firhill in the last 15 years. angry gaz
Potentially ,next season, all four of our players will better than what the pars have but Sinclair needs to learn to tackle and defend better before he is as good as Boyle was in his last season with us. ian_mac
Cairney won't be here next season, barring an absolute miracle. Hardie would be a great signing for us. A great example for the young players in the squad.
lady-isobel-barnett
Cairney won't be here next season, barring an absolute miracle. Hardie would be a great signing for us. A great example for the young players in the squad. I wouldn't normally go along with the idea of a player on his last legs returning but if Hardie could be signed on some sort of terms where we wouldn't be risking too much on his fitness then I'd love to see him back. Also with Big Martin on the field our opposition would be far more reluctant to give away free kicks too close to goal Edited March 4, 2012 by lady-isobel-barnett
twinny
I'd probably go for all the current players. Doolan is a better finisher than Buchanan and is good in the air too. Buchanan does get into the right positions more but I think Doolan has improved on that side. Boyle scores more goals, but Sinclair is good entertainment and can get to the by line, something I feel can provide goals for forwards like Doolan. If Sinclair could cross well he'd easily be playing in the SPL. A year ago I'd have said Hardie, but after this season I'd pick Cairney as he's on the up and Hardie will be battling an ageing body. This is the toughest of them all though as Hardie is a great influence and has a great brain for division one level. On the final one, I don't have a clue. I can't remember Dowie but Robertson has been getting decent reports recently.
Grant Tierney's tackle
Get Hardie in as a coach, put him through his SFA courses and offer him a pay per play deal.
Third Lanark
Martin Hardie had signed a 2 year deal with Dunfermline last summer, not to sure if we could get him signed. Though the Pars seem to be with their own cash problems right now so they may have to release a few
Jaggernaut
I was thinking more about this earlier. If Dunfermline get relegated, will it be because they simply didn't sign enough players of good enough quality for their campaign? They went for two of our players (Buchanan, Boyle), and let's face it we weren't exactly brilliant last season either. Not sure if they made any "big" signings. Who in our present team could make the step up and shine, or at least hold their own in a team that wouldn't struggle? Not many come to mind at this stage, I'd say. Ross County may have a big job on their hands to attract the players they'll need to stay up.
Barney Rubble
Ross County may have a big job on their hands to attract the players they'll need to stay up. If (when) Ross County go up, they will be up for a very long time. And, irrespective of what may be happening down Copland Road way, it will be excellent for Scottish football. I suppose it might lead to a bigger league so that teams don't need to go up to the Highlands at least 4 times a season!! Interested though in why you say they'll stay up for a very long time.
