Greater Maryhill Foodbank are collecting at the Celtic game at Firhill on 27th October. Not too much information yet but they are looking for food donations or, if anyone can spare some time, volunteers to help with the collection.

You can find out more about them at their twitter and facebook pages https://twitter.com/MaryhillBank and https://www.facebook...aryhillFoodbank

Serving the Communities of - Acre, Ruchill, Milton, Cadder, Wyndford, Woodside, Maryhill, Possilpark, Parkhouse, Gilshochill, Summerston and Queens Cross

What is the Greater Maryhill Foodbank

The Greater Maryhill Foodbank provides households (individuals or families) in crisis situations with approximately 3 days worth of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. Partner agencies identify households needing food and refer them to the foodbank by giving out a voucher. The voucher enables that household member to enter the foodbank

Suggestions of non-perishables

Tins - Tuna, Meat, Soup, Vegetables, Baked Beans, Fruit, Meat Pie, Rice Pudding, Spaghetti, pet food etc

Jars - Jam, Pasta Sauce, Curry Sauce, Sandwich Spread, Baby Food

Packets - Pasta, Rice, Sugar, Cereal, Oatmeal, Biscuits, Noodles

Beverages - Tea, Coffee, Long Life Milk, Fruit Juice, Bottled Juice

If anyone has any spare tins of food or anything or are shopping in the next couple of weeks and can spare the expense of an extra tin to donate I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by the volunteers of the Foodbank. They have mentioned in particular "pet food & household cleaning products are always in demand! Along with coffee, sugar & rice." If anyone wishes to donate some food but doesn't want to bring it to the game, won't be going or whatever then I believe Maryhill Parish Church up past the First and Last and Rams Head take donations in and pass them on.

I am disgusted that in this day and age that food banks have to exist. will bring a donation.

as a dog owner though, a word of warning. if you change you dogs food without "weaning" it off what it is used to. it can get quite messy

It is shameful that this appeal for food for the poor is necessary.

Now, let's get right behind this. Pop into the shop on the way to the ground and pick up a couple of items. Let us show that we care for those in need.

That's right.

"Better together" indeed! It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

I firmly believe that nobody actually believes the messages that Project Fear spouts. Their objections to Scotland becoming independent are due instead to their emotional ties to the concept of empire, British nationalism etc. In other words, they've swallowed the British propaganda hook, line and sinker.

Anyway, back on topic: I'll be taking along some items to the food bank.

As I see it this foodbank does not "have to" exist by any individual's or authoritative body's command.

It's a charity. Its existance and its success is due to the hard work, goodwill and dedication of those who feel compelled to donate thier time and resources, above and beyond the call of duty, to help those who need it.

No government can legislate for that.

Not at all ashamed, but proud of yet another reason why Maryhill is indeed wonderful.

Personally speaking, I think it's ludicrous that anyone has to go to a food bank, as the goverment gives EVERYONE enough money to eat. You'll find the people who use the food banks are ravin jakes, junkies, crack heads, people who can afford to smoke 40 snout a day but cant afford to eat, people who have 8 cats/dogs etc but cant afford to eat. Get your priorities straight people! Soft touch Britain again which Labour introduced, something for nothing culture. There you go...

your point being? come on, open your eyes. Socialist lies. Everyone can feed themselves end of. u can feed yourself for a wk on a fiver

For a lot of people they have to prioritize between eating and paying electricity and basic bills like clothing and rent, with some ensuring the kids are fed and they skip meals, yes there are benefit cheats like there are tax cheats, but to make sweeping statements that everyone on low wages or benefits is a chain smoking, boozing crack head is almost Goebbels like
