  1. It might have been me! Faced 26 penalties, saved 3 = 12%. The Thistle overall average (809 penalties faced) is 18% saved so he's below average.
  2. Thanks. That's how I remember it too but I didn't want to "lead the witness"! STV highlights must have been edited to miss the 2nd warning.
  3. Home to Kilmarnock 13/8/1994. Can anyone refresh my memory what happened after the ref spotted Gerry in the construction site that would eventually become the JHS? Just watched STV highlights on YouTube and if they are to be believed, the ref went over and called him down the stairs to speak to him. Jim White's commentary merely says the ref seemed to be satisfied he wasn't coaching from the "touchline" ( he was serving a suspension at the time) and left it at that. Did the ref in fact let it go or did he stop the game a second time and tell Gerry to get out of the "stand"?
  4. Was just listening to some music on my old 78s last night wondering where I was going to find replacement tapes for my Betamax.
  5. Jimmy Davison and Jimmy McGowan chasing back but don't recognise the keeper, the opposition or the ground. Big crowd + small ground, + photographer on hand often means a cup tie.
  6. Don't know why you'd think that?! Depends on your definition of "defender". For many decades in the 1-11 line-up era players by and large stuck to these positions so it's relatively simple. The introduction of subs muddies the water (where did they play when they came on?) as does the introduction of squad numbers (virtually meaningless in a positional sense). There are a few seasons where only 1 goal was scored by a defender (in some cases penalties). There are a couple of seasons where no defender in the starting line-up scored but I'm fairly certain the subs that came on and scored were not defenders. Ignoring friendlies and only going back to when we joined the SFL (1893-94) there are 7 seasons where no goals were scored by a defender:- 1917-18 1934-35 1937-38 1938-39 1969-70 1981-82 2020-21 It would seem that when Stuart Sutherland scored on Boxing Day 1936, no defender scored again until Charles Busby did so on 1 May 1940 - 154 matches later.
  7. Golightly into next season!
  8. 5 consecutive clean sheets (SFL/SPFL league matches only)... Achieved only twice. Feb-Mar 1968 and Feb-Mar 2013. No record of 6 found. Consecutive league wins... (SFL/SPFL league matches only)... 12 Once Oct-Dec 1932 10 Once Oct-Dec 1962 9 Once Jan-Sep 1897 8 Three times Oct-Dec 1904, May-Sep 1983 and Feb-Mar 2013. 7 Once Dec 1934-Feb 1935. 6 Six times Jan-Mar 1912, Feb-Mar 1934, Sep-Oct 1947, Sep-Oct 1975, Dec 2001-Jan 2002 and Aug 2012-Sep 2012. 5 Twenty times. The most recent is Aug-Sep 2001.
  9. Hmm. Interesting question SITB. Quite a few examples of players scoring consecutive doubles but as far as I can see you have to go back 80 years. Willie Newall scored 3 consecutive doubles against Queen's Park (Glasgow Cup 27/8, Morton (Southern Div) 30/8 and Clyde (Southern Div) 6/9 1941.
  10. I hope you all enjoyed the step by step story of how the Scottish Cup was won in 1921. The most obvious addition to The Thistle Archive now is to jump forward 50 years and look at the League Cup campaign in 1971. The article is almost finished but there is one more addition I’d like to make. It would be nice to include some quotes from fans so I’m asking anyone who was at Hampden on 23 October 1971 and has an anecdote to contribute to PM me. If you weren’t there on the day, it could be you have relatives who were and who have “passed down” something that might be of interest. Please keep your contribution short (and tasteful!). If you want your name recorded for posterity, please add it. Finally, you may have seen recently that a journalist is planning a book on the subject and will be making a similar request. I would emphasise that this is purely co-incidental. I’ve been working on the article for a number of weeks and it’s pretty much ready to go.
  11. Have you not forgiven them for hanging that monkey yet EKJ?
  12. And Donnie McKinnon. Arbroath or an Irish pre-season venue?
  13. In even older days it was known as "The Penny Line".
  14. Artificial unintelligence camera. Nice seagull!
  15. Indeed it was (with an "H"). "Big Tiny" ran a structural steel company called Erection Services (but enough of that) in Millroad street in Dennistoun. Wee story I heard was about an Old Firm match when he awarded Rangers a penalty. Jimmy Johnstone was walking back for the restart when Big Tiny passed him. "Haw Mr Wharton, that wiz never a penalty" says he to which Wharton replied "I think you'll find when you read your Sunday Post in the morning that it was Mr Johnstone".
  16. Are you not thinking about Charlie Adams M'lady? Was he not a male model? Not sure if England were that desperate however!
  17. All League 1 matches are 7.00 tonight for some reason.
  18. If you're tuning in remember it's a 7.00 Kick-off.
  19. Gordon Whitelaw. Scoring against Kilmarnock in a 3-2 win 29/12/1962.
