  1. Very detailed although I'm not sure how much of it I believe. I've not been a huge fan of Jacqui Low, she doesn't give me much confidence that she knows how to successfully run a football club. However, like Caldwell, she's got a big few months ahead of her. If things remain the same as last season then I don't think either of them could have too many complaints about being stood down. I wish her well, for the sake of all of us I would like to see her succeed. Proof will be in the pudding etc etc.
  2. Dario Zanatta impressed me playing for Alloa this season. If Hearts are putting him back out on loan it might be worth a look.
  3. Anderson, after a decent enought start, has been rubbish. Slow, terrible on the ball and caught out on numerous occassions. I wouldn't be in a rush to sign up any of the players out of contract going on this season alone. The heart says keep Elliot and Doolan, I'm not sure Caldwell would think similar to that mind you. Outwith those two, struggling to think of any player who has a genuine rapport with the fans.
  4. Starting formation was laughable in a home game where we had to win. The formation in the 2nd half was how we should have started. Harkins was excellent, best since his return. McGinty was my man of the match, only one who took responsibility for the full 90.
  5. Manager can take the blame for the starting XI. Far too defensive, far too negative in a game we needed to win. Midfield didn't have a clue what it was supposed to be doing, no shape and aimless punts to Mansell and McDonald. McMillan can't play in midfield, in fact, he is pretty dodgy at ful back as well. Why take off Elliot? I've not been convinced with Anderson at all since he signed and tonight proved no different. Him and Saunders were dreadul, bullied by a big striker. The manager can take a big portion of the blame but the players attitude is woeful. Someone might want to tell them we are in a relegation battle. Only when Storey and Spittal came on did we show any threat due to actually having pace to attack. I've no idea why Caldwell decided that was the best team to set up with but it was doomed from the start. The whole club is sinking fast, zero leadership on the park, in the dugout or in the boardroom. 2,000 home fans for a must win game is pitiful, regardless of being on tv or not. I hope they all enjoy Tenerife. Scunnered.
  6. I think for a change we should look at the positives from that game. We are sitting bottom of the championship and were playing a team who for a large part of the season were riding high in the league above. I don't think anyone can deny we were extremely poor in the first half. We sat off them and allowed them to dictate the play. However, I thought we were very good in the second half. We showed a lot more desire and battled away with some strong challenges being thrown about. Mansell had absolutely nothing to work with but ran his socks off all night. To say he isn't good enough on what was his first start is a bit harsh. He tired badly and Caldwell should have changed it but he never gave up. The defence were excellent in the face of a strong Hearts attack. Hard to believe that it was the same team who conceded 7 goals in the last 2 games. I may be in the minority but I don't think Harkins was that bad. He's never had pace, not sure why that is just being picked up on now! I thought he helped the defence and stood up to the physical nature of Hearts play. We live to fight another day, hopefully the players will take some confidence from that second half performance.
  7. Why has Callum Wilson been sent on loan to Elgin when we don't have any midfield cover at all at the minute? As soon as County got their first, only one team was going to win it. We absolutey chucked it. Spittal has been brilliant recently but he was either injured or just not up for it in the second half. Countless times he ambled back down the left as the County right back took off. Steven Anderson has had plenty of plaudits but he was very poor from the off yesterday. If Harkins can't get himself fit enough to last the game then we've got to think about benching him. He was a man down in the second half, the decision for Doolan to go off before him was wrong. I actually thought Doolan was having a decent game, holding the ball up well and making things difficult for the RC defence. I've yet to see what Hazard brings to the team to justify getting a game ahead of Sneddon. He's glued to his line, offers no confidence to his backline. I thought Slater was the only midfielder to get pass marks, kept plugging away as the rest folded beside him. A big reality check for the team, we're far from out of trouble and if the attitude displayed in the second half is a sign of things to come then League 1 football won't be far away. Huge game on Tuesday night.
  8. Fitzpatrick had a great final 30 minutes. Just before he set up the second goal, he got a proper bollocking from Spittal for not tracking his man. Twice in 5 minutes Elliot had to bail him out. He's only 17 and needs to up his fitness but he has clear talent and offers something that nobody else in the team does.
  9. Genuinely interested, in what way has Gerry been an upgrade on Maxwell?
  10. No problem! Alan Nixon saying it on twitter and he's pretty much on the button with all things Thistle.
  11. Tricky start and we didn't look great in the first half. I thought we were very good in the second half though, a pleasant change to see us get stronger as the game went on. Slater is a terrific footballer but only when utilised further forward like he was in the second half. He's developing a good relationship with Storey and Penrice down the left hand side. Archie gets a lot of stick for his tactics but he clearly made a formation switch in the first half which helped us get a foot hold on the game. It did make me laugh that it took Ntambwe about 5 minutes and two tellings from Penrice and Spittal before he figured out the switch! He has the makings of a good player and i'm sure his passing will improve as his fitness does. A midfield of Bannigan, Slater and Ntambwe will be a standout in this division. On Bannigan, I didn't think I'd ever see him back in the Jags colours. What a cameo it was. Didn't give the ball away once, his passing was assured and quick and most importantly, to a Thistle player! Light years from the dross served up by Edwards, Woods etc last year. I hope this is the sign of better things for him, a very talented footballer who deserves some luck going forward. As every win shouldn't be overhyped, (just as every defeat shouldn't mean Archie out!) I think there are positive signs in this Thistle team. Credit to Keown and McGinty as well, thought they were both very solid yesterday.
  12. Put up more of a show as a championship team that we did more often than not as a premiership side. We switched off at critical minutes but when they can bring on Dembele and Forrest they always had the ammo to step up a few gears. Penrice was decent in midfield, Slater very comfortable on the ball and Fitzpatrick is a very exciting prospect. Great to see a Jags player pick up the ball and run full pelt at the opposition. Mutomobo took his goal well. Definitely a player in there, hopefully his decision making etc will improve as his fitness does.
  13. That was worrying. To start a season with players playing out of position and a bench that is 3 players light is shocking mismanagement from top to bottom. We've known since May that we would be short of a right back, why wasn't that addressed? We seem to be missing out on signings left, right and centre which goes against the "competitive budget" story we were all fed at the start of the summer. I'm not naive enough to think we would sign every player we went for but our recruitment policy has been terrible for the last few summers. I didn't have high hopes for this season, history tells us it's not an easy division to get out of. I had even less hopes when I saw that lineup and bench today. However, I did expect a reaction. I expected to see players showing grit and determination against a team that turned them over the week before. We were soft as hell all over the pitch, last season revisited. The week coming up is huge for us. We go in to our first home game with no new signings and a similar team as today then it isn't going to be pretty. When we won this league we had great momentum and a feel good factor from the off. It feels the exact opposite just now. I'm a huge Archie fan, always have been but the same old mistakes are being made time and again. He needs to fix it and fast.
  14. It’s going to be a tough season, it’s the way it is nine times out of ten for the relegated team. Just as we weren’t going to win the league by winning our first three cup games, it doesn’t mean we’re certs for relegation by losing the last. We have issues, we lack quality and depth in areas. We also have a month to sort it, whether Archie can do that remains to be seen but the board believe he can so he should get our backing in the meantime. I think one of the issues is that for a lot of the more vocal support, the last 5/6 years are what they think Thistle have always been. A relatively successful premiership side. One season of relegation (don’t get me wrong, it was awful) and the daggers are out. We’ve been here before and will be again I’m sure, it’s the way it works for clubs our size. I have concerns with the way we set up, our fitness etc but I’d still say it’s a bit early to be hitting the panic button.
  15. Cammy Bell to sign a 2 year deal when his Hibs deal is up at the start of July. Good signing
  16. He refers to being owed circa 100,000 Euros by his old club that he is never likely to see. If County or United are offering him big money then that is more likely to swing it than any sentimental feelings he has to Thistle. I’d like to see him back but I wouldn’t break the bank to do it.
  17. Never reached the heights of previous seasons but he wasn't alone. At Championship level we will struggle to find a better keeper on our budget. Still, his aimless punts up the field won't be missed. Good servant to the Jags but I'm sure we'll have someone lined up. Looks like he waited to see what interest was out there before invoking his clause.
  18. Good signing. Solid defender and scored plenty as well
  19. Out of the four signings United have made in the last two days, I wouldn't have been overly happy with any of them being signed by us.
  20. Booth was average at best. Part of a defence (when fit) that shipped goals for fun. Some Thistle fans seem to have a habit of looking at ex players with the tinted specs on. Anyway, Booth leaving gives Penrice a clear run at the left back position. Let’s see if he takes it, this is what the Academy is there for after all.
  21. Had heard the Osman rumour, more around the fact he was playing silly buggers with his injury and making himself unavailable. He didn’t kick a ball for the last few seasons anyway, lived off his first 2 seasons.
  22. I've never been a huge fan of signing ex players. However, I think Paton would be an excellent signing for next season. He was a very decent player at championship level and would give our midfield the dig that has been missing all season.
  23. If we put the goals on either side of the half way line we’d be world beaters. No urgency, no leaders, no dig. Scunnered with the lot of them.
  24. He was at the heart of some of my greatest times as a Jag. A great man.
