  1. We are beginning to see McCall’s influence already. The defence has had no cover and OWare’s appearance as defensive mid sitting could well be what we need. Mind you he’s hardly won a header all season but we simply didn’t look like conceding. Shifting Kakay to wide right is a master stroke and he should form a good partnership with Williamson. As Cardle has been dreadful recently he can be dropped for Zanatta who needs to add consistency to natural ability. Gordon doesn’t get his place back. I liked the way Saunders attacked the ball in the air which neither of the other 2 cb’s seem capable of.
  2. Great report. Anyone else at the game with further views?
  3. Jagfox, please come clean. Its great to see all our guys on the scoresheet. While Miller has done well so far, he has a long way to go to become Firhill Royalty.
  4. Well done to to players and management for a great result!!
  5. Given how diabolical we were last week I was surprised to see as many of the miscreants selected for today. I wasn’t at today’s game but we’ve beaten a better team than the team that humped us 7 days ago. There were half a dozen I’d have happily sacked after the Pars game. It appears that, at our level, there is little difference in players’ ability. It’s how they are handled that makes the difference. I wonder if McCall could have made a player out of Storey?
  6. Erskine and Doolan did not perform under Caldwell. Bannigan didn’t perform under Caldwell. All 3 are/were great players. I assumed the 1st 2 were simply past their best. Assumed Banzo’s problem was the injury. I am confident that McCall can improve players’ performances and expect a re-invigorated Bannigan. If the other 2 return it will be interesting to see whether McCall can extract a good year or 2 out of them. I think that Caldwell’s recruits are better players than Archie’s (latter day)recruits. But they didn’t perform either and clearly need guidance/kick up the jacksie/role definition/new fitness regime. By Christmas we shall see whether the squad is better than the one Caldwell inherited.
  7. I was desperate for Caldwell to succeed for this very reason. I’ve seen so many poor managers over 50 years and didn’t want another. Unfortunately he turned out to be as useless as many of his predecessors(not as bad as fat DJ though). So it’s costing us a fortune and we need a good appointment. Let’s have no rolling contracts. McCall and Macnamara were excellent so Id be inclined towards them.
  8. I want to see Thistle progress under Caldwell(or anyone). I do not think Caldwell has done a good job so far and appreciate we cannot wait any longer after next week for a 1st win. I find the above post (with 5 likes) distasteful, fatuous and moronic. He hasn’t read my comment nor considered the content. Ive seen worse managers than GC, believe me!! I want him to succeed because I don’t want another crap manager and I don’t want us wasting money on paying the management team off only to employ someone else who may also be crap. This may well come to pass if we are humped by the Pars. My point which has been disregarded is that the debutants looked like an improvement after half time who can be teamed with probably our best 2 mids next week. Give then a chance!!
  9. We were atrocious. Robson, Cardle, Penrice and the Central Defenders were a disgrace and the others not much better. However we had 2 making league debuts and 2 suspended. We were better after the break so I think we should allow Caldwell the Pars home game before sacking him. It’s a must win for him though.
  10. It felt like the North Sea had frozen. Jags had 3 sent off. We had a crap team. But we prevailed gloriously to reach the next round of the Scottish Cup!
  11. I don’t disagree with most of this but at least we have scored a few goals with some degree of entertainment this season.
  12. Right, we’re playing Arbroath ffs. Surely we are going to hump this lot, a team managed by one of our dismal former managers, with a tiny support and budget. Ive been patient with GC but the moment has arrived. A win is mandatory. Arbroath won’t get my £20 because of the outrageous kO time and the fact it’s on BBC. I won’t buy a pie or a programme. I won’t buy any smokies or buy any beer. How much will the red lichties and the local economy lose because of this farce?
  13. Banzo had 2 or 3 brilliant passes to Zanatta yesterday Nobody else can actually pass the ball. God knows what’s happened but Caldwell needs to go back to these 2 ‘cap in hand’,get them playing better and explaining why he had a go at then.
  14. Good point. ‘The old road is rapidly changing. Please set out a new one if you can’t lend a hand’ Sir Bob was right. After all these years, perhaps the times are changing for the better. DO NOT sing that song, it is not smart.
  15. We beat Ross in our most recent home game. We’d have beaten Morton 2-0 and been delirious with joy if Fox hadn’t thrown the ball into the net. We have 2 new players. Cheer up the lot of you ffs, we’re going to pump Aye Utd
  16. I would have turned up had I known about this game. Was it advertised? Good result. Any reports?
  17. It’s evident that there is no pace and nobody capable of beating a man except Cardle, probably our best player this season but a 32 year old journeyman of 9 clubs. This amounts to no flair and long ball tactics as we cannot retain possession. Our promotion team had Erskine and Lawless at their peak plus 2 rampant full backs. How I yearn for someone with this ability. Lets hope the Aussie guy can get us up the pitch.
  18. An astonishing substitution. Sometimes Caldwell has a brain fade. Similarly vs DU, he kept on Cardle for 90 minutes when his legs had gone to jelly.
  19. I’d like to know what was said at ht I took a friend, not a football aficionado and not a tactical genius. After 50 minutes he said’Why are Thistle wasting time already? They should be killing this mob off. But they are inviting the oppo to attack. This isn’t going to end well’ Because of Morton’s ineptitude I didn’t see it coming but I should appreciate that our ineptitude can easily usurp any opposition’s. BTW I thought Miller and Penrice were good. Jones was absolutely awful, ceding possession at every opportunity. Mansell has only played well as a sub.
  20. I thought that before the DU game. He was mom by a long way.
  21. Yes, what an improvement. Interesting point about lack of bookings which is good but if he wants to step up a further level he needs to improve his physicality. Get nastier, Sean! I watched Connolly against us and thought he put the frighteners on our lovely chaps.
