  1. It's not 3-5-2 when one of your wing-backs never goes forward and three of your midfielders sit right in front of the back 3. It's also not a 3-5-2 when one of the strikers is a winger. We were playing, at best, a very defensive 5-3-1-1 switching to a 4-4-1-1 when Booth goes forward.
  2. Higginbotham definitely scored direct from a free-kick for us at one point.
  3. Who, aptly enough, are now the only then top-tier team we've beaten in the Scottish Cup in the last decade and one of only three in the last three decades.
  4. Finishing in the top 6 would make it a lot easier to consolidate long-term. I would fancy our chances of having 2 or 3 good cup runs were we fully to consolidate as a mid-table Premier League club. Being in the play-offs, even if we win, would represent the St Mirren-ification of our club, having been in the top flight for 3 seasons without really doing anything but pulling a rabbit out the hat elsewhere. We would be favourites to go down the following season and we have a much lower chance of having good cup runs if we have to completely rebuild the club around the demands of a Yo-Yo team, just to be back in the Premier League a few years later. Basically, top six. With the Cup there's always next year.
  5. If McGhee thinks Ainsworth is so terrible I'd be more than happy for Thistle to take him off Motherwell's hands should Stevie Lawless decline to extend his contract.
  6. About two minutes before the goal I said that this was a game in which both teams deserved to have points deducted. I stand by that. But yaldi.
  7. The problem isn't the water landing on the pitch, it's how it drains. The near-side wing of the city-end is essentially an under-cover sink beneath the ground. It's the accumulation of water, not a sudden onslaught of rain, that water-logs it.
  8. Then Scotland stays in the United Kingdom.
  9. It definitely seems as though the fact that we're being decisive in getting other players tied down sends a signal to players that we mean business and that it's in their interests to jump on the bandwagon while they can.
  10. Never has the phrase "pissing myself laughing" been more appropriate than for that incident.
  11. Queen of the South. Pinged it in the top corner from outside the box in a Dennis Bergkamp-style "not sure if he even took a shot" kind of way.
  12. Few things make me chuckle more than the image of a FURIOUS MIXU.
  13. Just realised too that 3 years more would bring him up to a bona fides testimonial. I can think of no one more deserving since Archie.
  14. You have to offer a contract on at least as good terms as their current one to be entitled to development compensation in the event they reject it and agree terms with another club instead.
  15. This is a fantastic piece of news. http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/partickthistle/6869731/Kris-Doolan-pens-new-Partick-Thistle-deal.html?CMP=spklr-_-Editorial-_-TWITTER-_-scotsunsport-_-20160118-_-SunScotSport-_-334648345-_-Imageandlink When we look back on this era of the Jags in 30+ years time, the two players that will encapsulate what it meant to watch Thistle, for my generation, will be Kris Doolan and Chris Erskine. There will be honourable mentions of good servants, like Bannigan and Rowson, journeymen who did a decent turn, like Higginbotham and Osman. Even a few decent likeable talents like O'Donnell who eventually plied their trade elsewhere. But these two players made it into professional football the hard way at a time when we were going through a slow and painstaking period of renewal as a football club to equip ourselves for the future. Neither of them is even remotely a prima donna, neither of them is without their footballing faults, but both of them just seemed to click with Thistle in ways you could never imagine them really quite fitting-in elsewhere. Entertaining, ambitious, and Erskine's "Archie moment" aside, really loyal to the whole idea of our football club and what it means to us as the fans. Players with more flair and skill have come and gone, and may well come and go in the next couple of years, but none that also quite had the same beating heart of Thistledom.
  16. Sorry, but you have forfeit the right to all opinions.
  17. **** a duck. What happened here? Missed the game for a meeting in Edinburgh. Looks like it was the right decision.
  18. I'm not even entirely sure what the current rule is, but would a compromise of sorts be that a hand-ball not believed to be deliberate should be an indirect free-kick, where the hand-ball gives an advantage to the defending side? That would make the hand-ball rule similar to the distinction in rugby between a knock-on (giving rise to a scrum) and a deliberate knock-on or a forward pass (giving rise to a penalty).
  19. Wee bit concerned that the bench is underpowered if we need to change things up in the second half.
  20. Just throwing it out there: could Millar do a shift as the holding man in midfield when Osman next gets suspended?
  21. An extremely well-earned point. Plaudits especially to Cerny who could have shut out a Russian airstrike tonight. Great game from Seaborne and Liam Lindsay continues to play beyond his experience. Battling performance and nerve held well under a lot of pressure. If there was one weak spot in the team I'd say it was Edwards, as he was a bit lightweight in that middle berth and I'd have liked to see Muirhead come in for his last spell in there as the game went on. That being said, the substitution for Pogba worked well, with Doolan dropping a bit deeper and we enjoyed a fair bit of pressure as they struggled to adjust to our slightly adapted shape. Same again on Saturday please Jags.
  22. Admins, can we please ban people who don't know how to spell "divine"?
  23. I made the mistake of arriving at about 2:45 so missed out on one. Wee bit miffed but my fault. More annoyingly I left my calendar under my seat after the game and when I went back to get it it had gone.
  24. Received mine in the post this morning. Great gesture by the Club. They're doing the small things right a lot more these days.
