  1. C'mon The Jags. Let's get off to a winning start
  2. The highest scoring defender in European football the season before his injury. Not a bad bet.
  3. Had this same strip in the mid 70's. Totally loved it and remember it being of a pimpled cotton type material with the big badge. We'd moved to England by then and I really liked the West Ham of that era and got their away top. White with tiny blue and claret pin stripes I think. Having said all that, my first ever kit may have been a Cambridge United copy with no badge. It had orange / amber and black stripes. My Dad tried to convince me it was just like the Thistle kit, lol. I wore it but can never remember being that fond of it.
  4. Thanks, I must have misread the tables. Tough next round draw whoever we get.
  5. With Dundee United, St. Johnstone and Dundee all out, we might get a bye to the next round. Either that or Aberdeen away.
  6. Could be a few decent teams out unexpectedly at this stage. Hoping the above are one of them.
  7. Woodside when I'm up the road. Used to be the Royalty and got a massive shock and made to not feel too welcome when I went for a pint before a game and it'd turned into a Rangers pub. I guess the name always suggested it would at some stage.
  8. Was Steve Pittman I was thinking of but says he's American.
  9. Not getting into a debate about how good the game is or whether it's worth watching etc., but maybe a symptom of ours and Scotlands' lack of success in unearthing the great players of yesteryear, has something to do with our attitude. I worked and played football in Germany many years ago and still have good friends there, that love and coach football. For as long as I can remember, they've spoken about women's football and praised certain players during conversation. They talk about all football in the same way that they talk about their great National and Bundesliga teams. Football covers the whole spectrum from infant to adult and male and female and their infrastructure is set up for footballing success for all. We on the other hand, focus on males within a very narrow age group. We're trying to land on a pinhead, and unearth the next 'gem', instead of embedding a format that sets us up for relative success at every level and for all genders and people. Anyone arguing over whether or not the standard of women's football is good enough to watch, is completely missing the point. Unless we change how we treat the game itself, it will barely be worth watching any football in years to come.
  10. Was thinking of Steve Pittman. Longish surname and from America. What do I know. Had a look though and found two from Canada: Mel Bottiglieri Russell Huggon Not sure how many, if any, appearances they made.
  11. I don't think so. Am sure we had a Canadian in our 90's team. Short surname of around 4 letters that I can't now remember. It may or may not come back to me.
  12. I'm sure I was at a Thistle - Dundee United game a few seasons ago on a Friday night and they filled the away stand. Was 0-0 and we played really well.
  13. Please not Kenny Misser. Takes hitting the target to another level. A level where hitting the target means hitting the goalie and not scoring. Just no!!!
  14. Read the other day that it's 5% of total spend which is higher than the 3% in England. Tbh I've enjoyed it and would love the Scottish team to reach the last 16 with a win tomorrow.
  15. One was me, as I think the order the fixtures fall makes a massive difference.
  16. Pretty sure the fixtures will be designed, as always, to put us on the back foot as early as possible. Among the first 5 fixtures will be Dundee Utd at home and Dundee and Inverness away. Also imagine Morton away or something similar. Maybe I'll be surprised? Who knows.
  17. I hope the biggest game of the season is the last game, unless we wrap up the league early of course. Think games against the Dundee teams will be meaningful and will give us an idea of how strong we are.
  18. Have watched a few Scotland games over the months and can enjoy it in a similar way to enjoying womens tennis. Was getting in to the swing of it and now am done. The decisions against Scotland have been disgraceful and as much as I can accept and enjoy this level of entertainment, I cannot accept sub-standard officiating that is bordering on cheating. I feel so sorry for the team and have been known to shout expletives at referees and linesmen from my living room, but this is another level. It's almost* the equivalent of playing Rangers in every game. *Would take another 140 years of cheating to be the equivalent of Rangers.
  19. First beer and a cheeky dark rum and coke on it's way. Cheers
  20. Agree jls and I start every season thinking this could be our year. Other than the current year, where the team wasn't up to it, we normally get some stinking cup draws, while others get home ties year in and year out. With an improved team and some draws like this year, it could well be our turn in the coming years.
  21. Fair enough, but you're describing the majority of teams in world football. It's an elitist sport and you can pretty much name the top 5 from any league in the world. There are many clubs 5 times the size of Thistle that relate to the above statements. We and their supporters, follow our teams through thick and thin (mostly thin), in the hope that our special day in the sun will come. In the meantime, we'll feed off crumbs, listen to tales of yesteryear and feel proud to support a team we wouldn't swap for the world. A massive percentage of our overall support travel to watch our team each week and it feels great to be a Jag despite the result. I've said myself that I wished I supported Barcelona and Germany but who really wishes they supported any of the successful teams in Scotland? Not anyone wearing Red and Yellow, that's for sure.
  22. Might have to get myself up the road for this one. Mon The Jags!
  23. A funny bunch but probably no different to the average support of any team. Considering the shambles Caldwell inherited, he's done well to get rid of the dross and sign some good players. All in only one window. Most won't argue about McDonald but until yesterday, I felt like the only one who thought Harkins was a good player. The way people talk about how we miss Bannigan also confuses me. The guy is suspended because he's off the pace and runs around kicking people for no reason. Not too different from Harkins, except that Harkins makes telling passes into the last third and does a good job of blocking opposition passes into our last third. I admire fan loyalty but not at the expense of the truth.
  24. Would take a draw today but think 3-0 Jags. Enjoy the game and the beers afterwards everyone. Perfect playing conditions for a player like McDonald.
  25. 1 point v Alloa, 4 v Ayr and 1 v QOS. Morton and Falkirk to finish in the bottom 2.
