▪ Q: When is it hand to ball?

▪ A: When it hits a Thistle player's hand.

:detective: 09.08.2015 Partick Thistle 0 Celtic 2 (SPFL Premiership - game 2)

  • Dan is listed as a benchman for the first time in his Thistle career.
  • Matthias Pogba becomes the first Guinnean to play for Partick Thistle.
  • Thistle lose their first competitive home game of a season for the first time in the 21st century, ending a 15 game unbeaten run. Alloa Athletic, back in July 1999, were the last team to do such a thing, when they registered a 2-0 League Cup victory at Firhill.
  • Thistle have went 5 competitive games without a goal against Celtic; such a streak was last exceeded with an 8 game run against St Johnstone, 1994 to 1999, which itself was matching the all-time record of 8 games, set vs. Rangers (1872) from 1923 to 1925.
  • The all-time club record for consecutive losses to the same team in the League is once again reset, now standing at 17 vs. Celtic.
  • Thistle go backwards in the Scottish League for the first time since December 2014, setting the second longest positive run in the club's history.
  • Referee John Beaton registers the first 100% points total against Thistle this season. Amazingly, Celtic fail to pick up a single yellow card against Thistle for the FIFTH CONSECUTIVE MATCH. I've never seen a streak like it.
  • Partick Thistle have now played 39 competitive games without a penalty award. The average Scottish Premiership side was awarded 1 penalty every 9 games last season.

ongoing sequences:

  • 4 away games without conceding a goal, 23rd May 2015 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games in 1991. Club record: 6 games; 22nd January 1983 to 5th March 1983.)
  • 5 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 7 competitive games since a goal in the away strip, 30th Aug 2014 to date.
  • 11 competitive games since a home draw, 21st Jan 2015 to date.
  • 14 competitive games since defeat when we score the opening goal.
  • 16 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 20 consecutive competitive appearances for Stuart Bannigan, 24th Jan 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stephen O'Donnell - 29 games; 8th Nov 2014 to 23rd May 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Not sure. Might be Kenny Watson who scored one against them on 20th February 1982;

20.02.1982 Celtic [a] D2-2 (SFL Premier Division - game 21)

I'm complete from '96 onwards; it's 6-0 to Celtic on pens since then.

Cheers, we certainly haven't had one vs them since I've been going, would have first seen us vs them in the Geordie Shaw (part 1) game so Kenny Watson makes sense. We've only had one vs Oldco in that timeframe, Donnelly missed it.

Fairly certain I'm also right in thinking neither arse cheek have had a player sent off against us in the last 25 years while we must be in double figures- can you confirm what the oracle says?

vs Oldco

Both McDonalds in *that* game

Gerry B vs cheating kunt Muskat

Mark McWalter (I think)

Wayne Foster (for sarcastically applauding the ref after he eventually gave us a free kick)

vs Sellik

Banzo and Craigen last season

Farningham after a Nicholas dive

that's 8, sure I've forgot more.

Bitter? Moi?

edit: I suppose you could throw in Pittman in the McGilvray disgrace.

^^ Ancipital, yep, you're right with all them. You can add Tommy Turner to your list which makes it 4 against Rangers in 1995-96, you're almost guaranteed that'll stand as a club record.

As regards the other way, the Celtic Wiki tries to list them all and they only have one recorded against Thistle - Tommy Burns in 1978;

29.03.1978 Celtic [h] L0-4 (SFL Premier Division - game 28)

Before we get too carried away with this unlikliest of unlikely happenings, it should be pointed out that both Colin McAdam and Bobby Houston were also ordered off that evening...

I e-mailed a statto from the darkside who informs me there are only two known on their side;

09.09.1972 Rangers [a] L1-2 (SFL First Division - game 2)

Willie Johnston was sent off after 70 mins.

06.08.1980 Rangers [h] W3-2 (Anglo-Scottish Cup Preliminary Round, 2nd leg)

Colin Jackson was sent off after 32 mins.

In other news...

Post-script on the Rotherham game; James Penrice, who won't turn 17 until December, took over from Neil McLaughlin as the most recently born young man to play for Partick Thistle. At this rate, it won't be long 'til we've got our first bona-fide 21st century Jag.

Dare we dream of clean-sheet records?

:detective: 12.08.2015 Inverness CT 0 Partick Thistle 0 (SPFL Premiership - game 3)

  • For the very first time in history, Thistle have failed to score in the opening 3 League games.
  • Thistle are 4 competitive games without a goal - the longest such stretch since a run of 5 games from March to April 2010. It's extremely rare for the club to go so long without scoring a goal. The club-record is 6 games, set in February 1921 and equalled in August 1999.
  • In the "all-games" category, Thistle register their 5th consecutive clean sheet away from home; jointly the second best run in the club's history. A clean sheet at Tynecastle on Saturday week would equal the all-time club-record of 6, set by Peter Cormack's Jags in 1983.
  • Archie's Jags match up with Bertie's lot, who were the last to register 3 consecutive top-flight clean-sheets away from home back in November 1980. David Meiklejohn, Donald Turner and George Easton have also matched the feat. No Thistle team have ever returned 4-in-a-row.
  • Archie's Jags are off on another unbeaten away run - seemingly a speciality. In the "all-games" category, Thistle are now 7 without defeat away from home. He started his managerial career with 12 away games unbeaten in 2013, and followed that with a 10 game stretch unbeaten away from home in 2014. Now, here we are again for the third year in a row. Must be do something right.
  • Freddy Frans' astonishing clean-sheet record sits boldly at 50% after 24 competitive games.
  • The impressive Tomáš Cerný takes his top-flight clean-sheet tally to 2 in 3 games. Even this early, I can't help but daydream that Kenny Campbell's 94 year-old club-record tally of 14 in one season might be in some danger. Go on Tomáš, make some history!

ongoing sequences:

  • 5 away games without conceding a goal, 23rd May 2015 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games in 1991. Club record: 6 games; 22nd January 1983 to 5th March 1983.)
  • 6 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 7 away games without defeat, 25th Apr 2015 to date.
  • 7 competitive games since a goal in the away strip, 30th Aug 2014 to date.
  • 11 competitive games since a home draw, 21st Jan 2015 to date.
  • 14 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal.
  • 16 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 21 consecutive competitive appearances for Stuart Bannigan, 24th Jan 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stephen O'Donnell - 29 games; 8th Nov 2014 to 23rd May 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  • 40 competitive games since a penalty award, 19th Sep 2014 to date.
  • 58 competitive games since a goal from a penalty, 22nd Feb 2014 to date.

Doesn't take much counting; there's been 5. Higgy was the last man to convert, 58 competitive games ago. Who could ever forget Arrow putting us top of the League for 2 glorious minutes? :insert your own imaginary love emoticon:

Thanks!

5 is not a lot and the fact that it's nearly a calendar year since the last one is startling! Can't be many clubs with such a bizarre record!

AND HE'S OFF!

rus6cg.jpg

Dools registers the first of what could be a record-making campaign for the number 9.

:detective: 15.08.2015 Partick Thistle 2 Kilmarnock 2 (SPFL Premiership - game 4)

  • Kris scores for Thistle for the eighth season in a row. He's the first player to do that since Kenny Watson in 1987-88.
  • Since his debut in January 2009, Kris has scored once every 186 minutes in competitive action. Willie Sharp, Thistle's all-time highest goalscorer, only netted once every 225 minutes. :wacko2:
  • Now on 77 competitive goals, Kris shoots into the all-time Top 20 goalscorers chart, now sitting at 18th. 6 more and he'll join Dougie Somner, the greatest Thistle striker of the last half-century.
  • Sadly, a red-card will bring to a halt Liam's personal-best run of 4 consecutive first-team appearances.
  • Alan Muir flashes red to Thistle for the second game in a row, having dismissed Kallum Higginbotham at Victoria Park in March.
  • Thistle, who only "won" a measly 5 out of 38 games in terms of refereeing decisions last season, have started off 2015-16 in the same fashion, with no "wins" in 4.
  • Thistle have now only won once in the last 14 competitive meetings with Killie.
  • This was Thistle's first competitive home draw since a 2-2 with Dundee United, 7½ months ago.
  • Thistle are now 7 competitive games without a win.

ongoing sequences:

  • 5 away games without conceding a goal, 23rd May 2015 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games in 1991. Club record: 6 games; 22nd January 1983 to 5th March 1983.)
  • 7 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 7 away games without defeat, 25th Apr 2015 to date.
  • 7 competitive games since a goal in the away strip, 30th Aug 2014 to date.
  • 15 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal.
  • 16 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 22 consecutive competitive appearances for Stuart Bannigan, 24th Jan 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stephen O'Donnell - 29 games; 8th Nov 2014 to 23rd May 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  • 41 competitive games since a penalty award, 19th Sep 2014 to date.

Hungry Jambos en masse swarm in for the kill.

:detective: 22.08.2015 Heart of Midlothian 3 Partick Thistle 0 (SPFL Premiership - game 5)

  • As they did vs Kilmarnock in May, the players backfire Thistlefully, just when they were on the cusp of a clean-sheet record.
  • In all games, Thistle have now played 828 minutes without even scoring a goal in their away strip. Not since Kallum Higginbotham put Jags 3-2 up in the 72nd minute at Fir Park in February 2014 have Thistle fans had the pleasure of cheering a non red 'n' yellow goal. Funnily enough, this was also the last competitive game to feature a goal from a Thistle penalty - 60 games ago.
  • Nine consecutive penalty awards have went to the opposition.
  • Thistle are on a run of 14 competitive games without a half-time lead.
  • Thistle have only scored 2 first half goals in their last 14 competitive games.
  • The attendance of 16,657 is the highest at a Thistle v Hearts game since 18,350 witnessed the Scottish Cup tie at Tynecastle in 1989.
  • For the first time since 2003, Thistle have failed to register a victory in their first 5 League games.

ongoing sequences:

  • 7 competitive games since the referee's match decisions favoured Thistle.
  • 8 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 8 competitive games since a goal in the away strip, 30th Aug 2014 to date.
  • 9 games since a goal in the away strip, 2nd Aug 2014 to date.
  • 14 competitive games since a half-time lead.
  • 15 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal.
  • 17 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 23 consecutive competitive appearances for Stuart Bannigan, 24th Jan 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stephen O'Donnell - 29 games; 8th Nov 2014 to 23rd May 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Our away form is starting to look just as bad as it did under Ratnamara...... Ditch that away outfit!

That was a downer on Saturday as it was starting to look like we could do the " not that pretty but we're no mugs" routine away from home. Prior to Saturday one win and four straight draws since our last away defeat looked more than decent.

PARTICK THISTLE NIL

_85189079_pogba.jpg

One of the worst goal droughts in Thistle's history is no fun for anyone.

:detective: 25.08.2015 Partick Thistle 0 Falkirk 1 (League Cup - 2nd Round)

  • A paucity of goals in last season's campaign saw Thistle flirt with many unfavourable all-time records. It would seem that we on course to repeat the same in 2015-16. For only the 4th time in the club's history, Thistle have failed to score in 6 of the last 7 competitive games. For the record, the other runs were; 8 out of 9 games (March-April 2010), 6 out of 7 games (July-August 1999) and 6 out of 7 games (March 1921).
  • Suspended Stuart and injured Sean miss their first competitive games of the season. Stuart's run of 23 not-out was 5 short of a new personal best.
  • Last night's defeat was only Thistle's third in seventeen League Cup tussles with Falkirk.
  • Come October 6th, 40 years will have passed since Thistle last advanced to the semi finals of the League Cup.
  • The class of 2015-16 have started the season with no wins in six competitive games, and are now in the all-time Top 10 for the category (see spoiler). Surprisingly, two of the worst offenders were Davie McParland's team, who went 11 in 1973-74 and Willie Thornton's boys, who went 14 (the record) in 1965-66. Both recovered for mid-table finishes.

ongoing sequences:

  • 4 competitive games since an away goal, 23rd May 2015 to date.
  • 7 League games since the referee's match decisions favoured Thistle.
  • 8 competitive games since a goal in the away strip, 30th Aug 2014 to date.
  • 9 games since a goal in the away strip, 2nd Aug 2014 to date.
  • 9 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 15 competitive games since a half-time lead.
  • 15 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal.
  • 17 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 16 consecutive competitive appearances for Callum Booth, 14th Mar 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stuart Bannigan - 23 games; 24th Jan 2015 to 22nd Aug 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

GOOD RIDDANCE TO AUGUST

2jbnr75.jpg

Cheating Adam Rooney tops off a miserable month for Thistle. Lame performances, no goals, nowt from the refs... it'll all balance out in September, right?

:detective: 29.08.2015 Partick Thistle 0 Aberdeen 2 (SPFL Premiership - game 6)

  • Tomáš Cerný, Gary Miller and Callum Booth remain as the competitive game ever-presents for the season, as David Amoo drops out of the race.
  • For only the second time in the club's history, Thistle have failed to score in 7 of the last 8 competitive games.
  • Thistle have failed to score a first half goal in 14 of the last 16 competitive games.
  • Thistle have failed to score against Aberdeen in 8 of the last 9 fixtures between the two. The current run of 4 games without a goal vs Aberdeen has never been exceeded in the historical head 2 head between the clubs.
  • Thistle fans are the most goal starved across the 8 Scottish / English Leagues, having failed to see their team score in 83% of this season's League games.
  • 15 spilled League points in a single calendar month is a new club record.
  • Thistle fall into a relegation play-off place for the first time since April 2014.

Even if the visually challenged Finnie is blocked by Abdul, did he not wonder how a ball bouncing higher than Rooney's head suddenly dropped at his feet?

That picture is so clear; surely Rooney should be charged with some form of cheating, similar to a missed red card foul, by the SFA?

ANOTHER INTERNATIONALIST IN THE RANKS

4ih4yo.jpg

Sierra Leonean Mustapha Dumbuya is the latest to boost Thistle's rich history of internationalists.

:detective: 12.09.2015 Partick Thistle 0 Dundee 1 (SPFL Premiership - game 7)

  • Gary Miller drops out, leaving Tomáš and Callum as the last remaining competitive game ever-presents for the season.
  • Mustapha Dumbuya and Robbie Muirhead become the 11th and 12th men to make their Partick Thistle debuts in 2015-16.
  • Mustapha becomes the latest full-internationalist to have played for Partick Thistle, and the 120th known to me.

  • Thistle have failed to score in 8 of the last 9 competitive games - there has never been a worse goal drought in the club's history.
