A big thanks to TTA for recently uploading the full highlights of the Scottish Cup win at Dens from 2002 (1-2, Britton, Gibson).

Who else was there? It was great end-to-end stuff, and seeing it again, I'll make a few comments:

- Kenny Arthur had an excellent game

- Archie was on good form then

- Paul Walker could be a great wee player at times (his back-heel flick for Geree's brilliant goal often gets overlooked)

- Fann-i's red card was deserved and hilarious

- Gibson's winning goal reminds you that teenagers deserve their chance

- My partner told me that I was gibbering like a monkey all the way back from Dundee to Bridge of Allan.

- Another wonderful Thistle memory

I was there too. Fantastic night and (as somebody who began regular attendance in 1996) I think still just shades it as my best ever Thistle match, although a few weeks later in the crazy rain at Inverness and the 4-2 win at Hearts in 2014 run it close.

Dundee were an incredibly strong team then. The pace of the game never slackened and both teams went at it hammer and tongs throughout.

Nothing better than a late winner. Andy Gibson took it so well, but then had no idea what to do and ended up running away from the Thistle fans.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Looking forward to watching it again. I can remember driving home as fast as legally permitted to catch the highlights on Sportscene first time round.

PTD, you will be thrilled to know we've updated 'We'd walk a million miles' with the latest 5 seasons - our average round-trips this season are now the 2nd shortest this side of the war!

In other news, we've created one of our most astonishing list pages to date, 'Jags who served in WWI/WWII'. Incredibly, around 6% of all Thistle players in history served in either WWI or WWII. Three of them (Johnny Houston, Jack Thomson & Willie Wiseman) even served in both. 17 lost their lives. This fully sortable table links you to their profile page on the Archive (reserve players & chairman excepted) and clicking on fallen / returned will take you to their entry on either of our two feature pieces, 'The Partick Thistle Fallen' or 'The Partick Thistle Returned'.)

Many thanks. As regards "Walk a Million Miles", our nearest comparable short distance season was 2012-2013. Good omens!?

In today's 'match of the day' we're looking back to the momentous league opener on 4th September 1971, but it's tinged with sadness. In the early hours of that morning one of our own didn't make it. You can read more about it in the 'Scrapbook' section of the match hub...

A sad memory indeed. At least some sort of justice was done, when the cowards got jailed, though not for long enough (they would still be in prison if was up to me).

That game itself was fantastic. What a shame there is no video of it. Gibson was absolutely wonderful that day. And so were the Thistle fans!

Such a sad story. A young man in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Wasn't really sure where to post this but guess it's archive appropriate.

My Uncle got chatting to a 'caravan' neighbour whilst on holiday and the discussion soon turned to Maryhill and Thistle.

They shared a friend from the area and also a connection with Thistle.

My Uncle being a lifelong fan and the other gent mentioning that his dad, having been a blacksmith, was commissioned to produce something for The Jags many years ago.

I'll post the picture below and see if anyone recognises the 'piece'.

Was sure the name was in the clippings somewhere Rob. The Aberdeen hub of January 1990 is fast-forwarded, with this very nice preview piece from your good self, capturing the essence of that period...

You don't get writing like that these days! Crafted rather than copied and pasted.

Answering my own question, but the above is a picture of our Thistle emblem (ironwork), that was positioned on the gates that I believe locked the footpath behind the City End goals some time ago.

Does anyone have a picture of the gates? Have no idea when the gates were removed.

P.S. Just wanted to add, that I'm not an official Thistle archivist. No offence intended on posting on this thread.

Cheers

Sadly I do not know what happened to the magnificent Thistle emblem, but the brush and shovel were removed to the boardroom, so that the finances could be swept under the rug which ChiThistle volunteered to provide (see other thread!).

^ Not at all CJ, this is the thread! A fascinating post, albeit a little confusing maybe? A brush and shovel was part of a gate at Firhill? Or are we looking at two different pieces with different purposes at different times?

My attempt at asking if anyone recognised the ironwork from our old gates, turned a bit cryptic I think.

The person my Uncle met on holiday has this piece. His Dad was a blacksmith and was asked by the Club to make a centre-piece for our gates. I think they were positioned at the City End of Firhill.

Seems when the gates were demolished, he / his Dad somehow got the piece back.

He has since repurposed and added the brush and shovel etc.

He mentioned that he had contacted the Club in the past and asked if they wanted to display the piece and was told he'd be contacted if that were ever the case.

I wondered if there were any old pictures of the gates at Firhill, or if anyone remembered the time when they were in place.

Years and years of digging, scanning, cropping and whatnot continues to pay off as we're seeing our 1,500th Partick Thistle first-team player (Graham Rainey) image today, found on an Australian Facebook group. This is surely a world record for any club archive; we'll keep at it, you just never know what could still be lurking out there! Could you help with our missing player images? 1,500 down, 542 to go! If you can help with any on the list please do get in touch →

Great detective work. Very appropriately, it is a GRainey image!
