So, looking back 5 years, the biggest league attendance at a Partick Thistle match, HOME OR AWAY, was our game against Morton, Firhill, 6 months ago. I'd be interested to hear when the last time a Jags league home game pulled a bigger crowd?

Will there be more than 8,857 there tomorrow? By the sounds of it we haven't sold our allocation but on the assumption Celtic have and that there will be maybe 500 or so seats deliberately left empty, surely we'll be close to a 9,000 crowd?

Edited to add; Highest league crowd in last 10 years, was at Parkhead in November 2003, 58,202.

Edited to add again; The Morton attendance was the best home attendance since August 2003 vs Celtic, 9,045. That's the figure to try and beat tomorrow.

Attendance didn't even reach 8,000 today. No shortage of the odd seat here and there in the JH stand especially down near the front (exposed to the rain), and plenty of empty seats in the main stand (the central section almost entirely empty, I'm guessing deliberately so).

Aye, so much for needing the income from the arse cheeks.

In hindsight, we probably could have given Celtic more tickets for this one and we probably will in March. A sub-8,000 crowd is disappointing.

The Shed Boys were magnificent today. From some of the comments it also appears some of them actually enjoyed their view over there as well.

Looking forward to the St. Mirren game already, another derby of its own kind.

It took a good 10 min, maybe more in the pouring rain to get in. There was some confusion about where those with season tickets and those with matchday tickets should start to form their respective queues; something that could have easily been sorted out by having a steward or two proactively directing people on the road up to the JH stand.

How did it take so long to get into the game if the crowd wasn't that great?

old boy beside me said that turnstiles didn't open until midday - when we got up ithere was a bloody metal wall segretating us from the filth on the concourse - we queued for 25 minutes up the hill and just got in with a few minutes to spare - they could/should have opened he fire exits and just let in all the ST holders to ease the traffic

it's a wonder how we can have bigger crowds (morton etc) and not need the same level of fuzz involvement

The quantity of stewards and piggies in front of the singers in the main stand was ludicrous.

i did notice that - just a few minutes after a c*ck in the JHS hospitality went mental when they scored and should have been ejected (but was allowed to stay when one female steward/copper had a word) - there were a dozen hi-viz's round our troops i the main stand for no apparent reason

(also seems flares are allowed as long as they are green).

wonder how many seats are broken

Yesterday's attendance of 7,978 was our biggest of the season so far at Firhill. Here's hoping that we can beat that figure at some point.

Our lowest SPFL home attendance was against Killie, 4,310. Remember when Killie used to bring a big support?

So, our average SPFL attendance so far (after 6 matches) is 6,227; that puts us 6th according to other SPFL teams' average crowds as given in yesterday's matchday programme.

Not bad at all, I reckon. It would be a shame if the absence of a home victory is putting anybody off attending, as the football on show has definitely been high quality. I'd hope that even though St Mirren are struggling that the crowd at Firhill next month will be at least around 6,000.

I guess that for completeness - for anyone who hasn't seen them elsewhere - we should record the weekend's SPFL Premiership attendances: Hibs v Aberdeen - 12810; PTFC v Celtic - 7978; Dundee Utd v St Mirren - 6331; Killie v Hearts - 5090; St J v M'well - 2449; Ross County v ICT - match abandoned, no attendance published. Elsewhere: East Fife v Rangers - 4700; Livi v Dundee - 1597; Raith Rovers v Morton - 1569; Hamilton Accies v Falkirk - 1340; and Airdrieonians v Ayr Utd - 1012. All other SPFL attendances were in three figures.

Wiki gives the capacity of New Bayview as 2,000, all in one stand. It also states that plans to increase capacity were shelved in 2009.

Simple question: How did they fit in 4,700 folk?

Last weekend's games (November 1/2/3/4) were spread over too many days to make any sensible comparison of attendances. With this weekend's SPFL Premiership games all being played on the same day, there is some worth in noting a set of comparable attendances: Hibs v ICT - 8750; Ross County v Celtic - 5982; M'well v Dundee Utd - 5103; Dundee v Raith Rovers - 5064; PTFC v St Mirren - 4906; Falkirk v Livi - 2878; and St Johnstone v Killie - 2855. If Terry Butcher does end up going to Easter Road, it may well be crowd sizes that influence his decision.

The other way to look at it is, whilst having a pop at Dundee, he's having a dig at our club as well.

Even more so considering we were going to allow free away fan child admittance, and only changed that policy 2 days before the united game when we realised we couldn't charge away fans more than home fans. So to cover estimated "loses" charged away kids.

Was thinking that as well. It has also occurred to me that allowing kids in for free in the away stand could have problems. It would only take a handful of local neds getting amongst away support to jeopardise the initiative. Sending kids free tickets to the opponent club in advance of a game would be OK as perhaps would away kids only free with an adult.

Point being if the SPFL rule re being charged the same price was extended to include kids we'd need clarification.

With yet another international hiatus in the SPFL league programme, there were very few games which attracted attendances in four figures this weekend. Dundee v Falkirk - 4661; QotS v Morton - 1685; Airdrie v Dunfermline - 1219; and Livi v Dumbarton - 1039. Where do all the punters go on such weekends? St Mirren v Ross County also attracted 4000+, but more worryingly for PTFC, the St Mirren win pushed the Jags down another place in the league table.
