Tangerine Chumps

Seemingly the feud goes on!

According to the Sun Dundee United will complain to the SPFL about Firhill — and will brand it UNSAFE for away fans. The Tangerines board have drafted a letter to the new governing body complaining about the treatment of fans during Friday's game.

If I didn't thoroughly dislike them already for a host of historical reasons, they are really pissing me off now!

Is it true there are no hand-washing facilities in the toilets of the Main Stand?

no need, especially for whenever any of the great unwashed will be housed in it.

Keep the North Stand

Have the Arabs paid any compensation to Queens Park for Robertson and Connolly? Aberdeen paid compensation for Shankland.

The Spiders were worried that they would not get a penny.

"The Tannadice club are already keen on Spiders winger Aidan Connolly, the son of former Tangerines player Paddy, and he is expected to sign for them once his contract expires on May 31.

Fullback Andrew Robertson and striker Lawrence Shankland are now on McNamara’s radar as well.

Ahead of any moves being completed, Queen’s Park hand delivered a letter to the SFA’s football governance director, Andrew McKinley, asking that the deals are not registered until compensation has been agreed as they believe United will wriggle out of paying a development fee for a second time.

The amateur side remain angered that when United signed Barry Douglas three years ago they found a loophole to withdraw their offer of a fee due to the Queen’s amateur status.

To add to their frustration, they claim Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson has repeatedly ignored phone calls and letters from Queen’s Park staff, including committee member Malky McKay, father of the Cardiff boss of the same name.

Queen’s Park want to ensure that none of the players United are interested in can have a move registered until the SFA close the loophole that allowed United to avoid payment, especially as other clubs do what is seen as the honourable thing and pay up.

McNamara and Hampden head coach Gardner Speirs have held amicable discussions and what could seen as a very thin olive branch of a closed-door friendly was offered.

That, however, will not be acceptable to the committee that run the club.

A spokesperson at Hampden said: “Two of the three players that Dundee United are reportedly
interested in have been in our youth system for five years and the other for three. If they were to move to a club in England, we would get fees totalling close to £40,000 without question whereas if they move to Scotland it is up to the discretion of the club,” he added.

Other SPL sides and a First Division side have made payments in recent years for our young players but Dundee United, after offering a fee during the negotiations for Barry, opted out of doing it.

“We have also never had the courtesy of a reply from the club during that time. We have now asked the SFA to get involved and ensure that for any future moves we receive an appropriate recompense.”

Any specifics on why they think it's unsafe and what treatment of fans they want to complain about? They might have reasonable grounds for complaint, who knows?

However, the stand might be ancient and the toilets are cramped, but there isn't really a lot that can be done about that, besides, neither of which makes it unsafe and the council wouldn't have issued a safety certificate for the stand if it didn't meet certain standards.

Don't want to simply label Dundee Utd a bunch of tossers but there is a bit of a pattern emerging here.....

Funny how there was not a single complaint from Morton FC who had an even bigger away crowd than United.

Call me cyncial but if United got their way and we are forced to close the main stand and then that would be a big hit in our revenue and would suit the likes of them

Getting a tad Machiavellian there, TL :)

Not even the most hypocritical Morton fan would complain about anyone else's grandstand.

Nah, just thinking of the worst possible scenario as always.

Dundees's a frigging toilet

Not really.

But if fans of other clubs come to Firhill and there is a continuing sense of complaint about how poor the Main Stand is (especially for the price), then will we see a major drop off of revenue from away ticket sales?

Is there any justification for renovation of the Main Stand, or is only something that can be seriously considered after a long, sustained period in the Glorious SPFL Premiership?

Wouldn't like to see money being spent on something we don't own outright.

all joking aside, it is a few years now since i had the highly dubious privilege of entering the toilets of the main stand. they were a disgrace back then so unless they have undergone a major overhaul, then i suspect our guests may have a valid complaint.
