  1. Utter nonsense. His shooting may have been below par, however his work rate and closing down of their defenders was exemplary.

  2. I remember I used to go to clubs and moan about the music until a friend asked why I went if I didn't enjoy it. It was a fair point - I stopped going to clubs. The point being if you get so little enjoyment from watching Thistle, that your primary reaction from our first win in two months or so is as above, you perhaps need to find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon. Unless of course you enjoy being angry, in which case fill your boots.

  5. As Westertonjagfan is having a cup of coffee, I will just nip in and start the match thread. What does Doolan try next ? McBeth looked ok when he replaced Muirhead at centre back. Assuming Muirhead is fit, maybe a McBeth Muirhead combination with Stanway and Neilson in midfield ?

  6. That's my view on the game as well. On the others: Mitchell had a couple of good saves, and looked comfortable throughout. Thought Milne was careless at times. The McMillan and Lawless partnership worked mostly well, for the first time in a while. Fitzpatrick made some good runs, one terrific one in the 2nd half; his final ball too often lets the move down. Muirhead: had a good game. Neilsen: I'd rather see him where he played yesterday than as a central defender. BBG: worked hard throughout, unlucky his first burst through the defence and shot at goal wasn't placed slightly better. McInroy worked hard too, with some effective harrying of the opposition, not giving them time on the ball. A better performance than of late.

  7. Couldn’t agree more. He was poor against Raith but like the rest of his teammates his attitude and work rate was vastly improved today. We noticeably dropped deeper and stopped pressing high when he went off.

  8. Think you are very much against the grain....we are not a top class team, which is why we are in the division we are in. If we were to eradicate all of the mistakes you outline....we would in fact be Man City. FTR despite what you said we did play some decent football at times on a pretty tricky surface. Try and enjoy the win....

  9. Hope nobody took your advice. Never rely on the Jags for any bets.

  10. That last minute goal today ruined it 😁

  11. Great to get the win despite just falling short at death with clean sheet. Agree with above re McBeth, motm for me. And my favourite Sat night tipple soon, a pint of Imrie tears.

  12. I don’t agree with most of this. If Doolan truly was that bad at both recruitment and tactics we would not be third. If our midfield was that bad we wouldn’t score so many goals. I’m not even sure recruitment is as bad as made out. I quite like Robinson, Neilson, McInroy, Adeloye, McBeth, Ngenwa and even Williams (I think I rate the latter more than Doolan though). Yes many have been patchy, but most have made a positive impact on at least a few games (even Alston despite being a strange, superfluous signing) and have contributed to our point total. Only McDonald and Stewart look truly terrible. I’m not pretending that everything is great or that mistakes haven’t been made or that recruitment was brilliant (none of the recruits have been outstanding either). I just don’t agree it’s anything as bad as you’ve painted.

  13. Regardless of where finish in the league, the manager for next season has a massive rebuilding job on their hands. Recruitment this season has been poor. This is probably due to a combination of factors (budget, Doolan's inexperience, being late to the market due to play-offs). If we do achieve promotion this season, it will almost certainly be through the play-offs. So, again, recruitment will be hamstrung. We would be late to market and our budget almost certainly the smallest of the Premiership clubs. I fear that, under those circumstances, our stay in the top league would be brief. Of course I want Thistle to be successful. I want to see us competing with the best teams in the country (and beyond) - and after thirty plus years of support, I believe it is my right! Rather that categorise my position as 'would be happy to finish mid table this season', I would say this; I want the club's finances to be stabilised, a sustainable squad building regime in place and a management team that will use these resources effectively. I don't think this would be achieved with a boom and bust season in the Premiership.

  14. When asked on last night's View From The Terrace who his favourite team to score against is, Brian Graham replied Greenock Morton, time to 'fill your boots' Brian.

  15. Although I suggested the possibility of playing McBeth at Centreback and Neilson in midfield, why don’t we go back to the system and personnel that was so fruitful in November, December and January

  16. As soon as we took on Doolan, I was of the belief we should give him at least two seasons unless relegation was a very serious threat. I still believe this, and also think the team isn’t far away (obviously defensive strengthening). But as you say, falling away now would feel like things are happening the wrong way round and would put much more pressure on Doolan to make a strong start next season.

  17. Definitely. As soon as one goes out for a shy, another immediately gets thrown onto the park from somewhere

  20. Definitely should be winning this. And I know it's not a popular view but I don't think we were too far off it on Tues evening. My main concern is the pitch which will make it difficult to move the ball quickly - where it's reasonable to expect us to have the advantage over Morton. I also don't think experimenting with players in unnatural positions is the way to go - it might have positive impact, but on the balance of probability it's more likely not to work out. Play the best players available in their natural positions, focus on getting the basics right, concentrate on the job in hand, keep the heid and results will come. Just not sure about tomorrow because of that pitch ...
