Jaggernaut
First home game after 23 October 1971 (also the week after the 2-7 at Pittodrie - for balance!) - Nov 6th 1971. Think it finished 3-1 but Denis got a hat-trick and we all got to see the cup at half-time.
Winter of '63
I think Jimmy Bone was out injured and Denis played centre forward - he scored a hat-trick of headers. Glory Days!

angry gaz
in any list of our all-time greats, denis has to be right up there as one of the 'best of the best'... and probably the worst of the worst as well............If Partick Thistle were to be embodied as a single player it would be big Dennis

e4b
Ian Archer famously and perfectly described Denis as "Johan Cruyff - without a compass".
lady-isobel-barnett
A very excellent article about our Denis that you may well have read. Jaggernaut
alex rae, bobby 'annie' lawrie and hugh strachan at boghead? Two out of three with no problem. Have a stab at the occasion? (At this stage consulting the Official History book is permitted!) ETA: Bonus point for correctly identifying their No. 10.... robphil
scottish league cup quarter-final second-leg 1970? (we lost 6-5 on agg?) colin mcadam? a lot of question marks there, i have to confess!
Members Willjag
Can't be 1970, As that's the '72-73 (?) strip we have on. Thought that was Hugh Strachan as well. I'll hazard a gues at either Charlie Smith or Robert Gray. Is it the Scottish Cup 1/4 final, 1-0 to Dumbarton. An Ian Wallace goal and is that Ian Wallace (no.10)? Members Willjag
Yeah that's what's throwing me a bit. I remember Dumbarton scoring under floodlights in the dark, but I'm unsure if it was still light when the game kicked off.
a f kincaid
Herriot was in goals but neither Lawrie of Rae were playing. Assuming Boghead, Lawrie, Strachan and Rae, I think it can only be one of 2 games:- 27 Feb 1971 2-2 draw McQuade and Bone Rough, Reid, Campbell, Smith, McKinnon, Strachan, McQuade, Coulston, Bone, Rae, Lawrie. or 24 Feb 1973 2-2 draw in Scottish Cup Glavin and Lawrie. Rough, Hansen, Gray, Glavin, Campbell, Strachan, Chalmers, Coulston, Craig, Rae, Lawrie. Wallace was No 10 for Dumbarton that day.
Members Willjag
As I mentioned previously AFK, it cant be '71 because we didn't have that strip then so it must have been the '73 game. The 3rd player still looks like Hugh Strachan to me, but it could be Robert Gray. I'm sure Hugh always taped his socks under his pads as can be seen in the picture. eta Looking at it again, that might be Hugh Strachan but I'm now unsure that's Bobby Lawrie. Still going for Gray as the 3rd unidentified player. And I'll have a stab at the Dumbarton 9 as well... John Bourke.
Winter of '63
I'm pretty sure that's Hugh Strachan and Robert Gray(Senior) with Alex Rae. Looks a fairly decent crowd so I suspect that this was the Cup Game at Boghead in 1973. I seem to remember just getting into the ground in time to see John Hansen scoring a spectacular diving header into his own net.

Sure that was a fourth round replay in our promotion season under Bertie Auld. It was played entirely in the dark. Remember being there! Robphil got the three Thistle players right: Rae, Lawrie and Strachan, and he got the opposition right (Dumbarton). The third question related to the match itself. And it is indeed Willie Wallace making an arse of himself. However, Winter of '63's shout of Gray instead of Lawrie might actually be spot on; it was actually my first thought when I saw the picture. Good effort Willjag, and mostly correct. But this is a couple of years before Kenny Watson's era.
