Airdrie This Saturday

I wish supporters would drop the "Jackie macnamara - he used to be a tim but he's alright now" song. Or at least change the word "tim".

I'm very surprised we haven't been pulled up by the SFA/SFL for it, after it got a vocal airing on Sunday live on the telly.

A while back I suggested "c*nt", but I got no feedback.

Core Celtic fans' chant: "Forever and ever we'll follow the bhoys, the Glasgow Celtic, the Tim Malloys............". They refer to themselves quite happily as Tims.

My main take on this is that Jackie doesn't seem the slightest bit bothered about it; if it did bother him, he would've let it be known before now. During his post-match interview at Cowdenbeath, it was roaring out behind him for ages and he clearly wasn't the slightest bit perturbed.

That, to me, makes it fine. Happy days.

Yes, well it's the whole debate about the "n" word really, isn't it. Even though some black refer to themselves using it, I don't think many non blacks think it's ok to throw around in conversation.

Aye, my girlfriend and I had this conversation when we were watching the quarter final on Alba. I doubt you'll ever see a shop called N****rland (and I don't mean Neverland, though it does sound similar).

In that case, does that make it alright for some Celtic fans to tag a group of Thai school kids with the "T" word as long as it's in the name of charity? Don't recall much of a fuss being made when the "Thai Tims" songs were being shown on national tv and live at Celtic park.

No it's not.

I always understood a tim, coming from Tim Malloy, as BJ references, to represent an 'everyman' Celtic fan amongst their support. That other supporters often use Tim as a derisory term is likely down to their misinterpretation.

There's already been a complaint about it at Firhill. One of the stewards followed up on it, and the North Stand changed the song to cleaner lyrics.

Why not just stick with the cleaner lyrics than ones with a chance of being interpreted as sectarian?

Definitely not something that adds to the "family friendly" atmosphere we're trying to create.

I propose "He used to be a twit...."

Had this discussion with many a Celtic fan since the song was first sang (ayr away at the tail end of last season) and not one found it offensive. Many we're stunned when I told them we had been filmed by the sectarian police for singing it. A few of us sang it when Jackie took the stage at the POTY night, his response? "Cheers lads".

^^ I am sure that Jackie and Sid will have noted Flynn's performance. Btw, is Craig Hinchcliffe still our goalkeeping coach? He's not included in the management team on the club's website. I hope that our keepers do have a specialist coach.

Hinchy was training with Fox at half time at the Rovers and Morton games, so I think he's still gk coach.
