The Cup
The rumour is that Belgian defender Fredric Frans could be signing for us after impressing on trial. Sounds promising. If he's as good as Seabourne our defence will be looking strong.

Central defence really is where we need strengthened. We should never rule anyone out. We've certainly had guys appear out of leftfield and do a job for us. Simon Storey in way of example. Simon of course had a good reason for materialising in Glasgow. So perhaps this guy has as well. Otherwise I find it unlikely that here's a lad, who's had incredibly bad luck getting employment, who can do a better job for us than who we have already. Central defence really is where we need strengthened. Maybe not when you consider that he has been at Lierse for 9 years and was probably freed last season. Still the Belgian top division is a step up from our top division and he looks a very imposing figure. Just what we need in that back line Edited October 12, 2014 by Lindau

Just what we need in that back line Tbf 9 years ago he was 16 so you can hardly expect him to have made many appearances in his first four years or so. Sounds promising but we'll see
The Arch
Looks like we're about to sign a 6 foot 4 defender with nearly 100 appearances for one of the best teams in Belgium - in a problem position for us - yet we're still moaning. Hopefully leads to Muirhead and Lindsay getting loaned out. If Muirhead can't rediscover his old form in the hypothetical loan spell, then it's time to get rid unfortunately.
kni
a foreigner Boris? from Brussels? it shouldn't be allowed! That jibe is a classic "epic fail". Boris Johnston is very pro-immigration and was born in the USA. He worked in Brussels for the Daily Telegraph for a few years. I would agree with all of that but we need four central defenders who can play at Premiership level. The real plus is that the management team have been able to evaluate Frans on trial. Hopefully, he is match fit and able to compete for a starting place quickly.

I'm not one who's moaning more thinking this is too good to be true. Good points re Muirhead and Lindsay. Aero actually needs game time at centreback. Compared to Conrad he hasn't played in that position nearly as much, Don't think he had more than a handful of games if any at centreback for Annan and a fair chunk of matches for us have been out of position at rightback and centre mid. I still feel there could be substance to the potential he showed in our promotion year. A loan spell would take the heat out of making a decision one way or other. Lindsay just needs a sustained spell on loan. He did well at Alloa but injury ruled him out of playing more than a handful of games. read'n'yell
Need to remember Danny Seaborne was unwanted by a team finishing 18th in the English third tier and is clearly a cut above what we have had recently in defense. Belgiums top flight will be of better standard to that. Conveniently his name goes well into doo-doo-doo, fre-de-rik frans. Wouldn't want that song going to waste. The Cup
Belgian defender Frederic Frans also featured in the friendly on Saturday and is due to hold talks with Pools boss Jose Riga over a deal. He appeared for Blackpool in a friendly at the start of the season. The deal obviously fell through but if Blackpool were interested in then he must have good ability. You'd think he would certainly be better than what we have at the moment in Balatoni and Muirhead.
Barney Rubble
Still the Belgian top division is a step up from our top division 13 years of watching Belgian football comprehensively told me otherwise, Lindau. Some perspective - Lierse was where Charlie Miller finished his illustrious career - and where Tony Watt was exiled to last year. They were also in the Belgian second division 2007-08. Having said that, it's a decent league and if this comes to fruition, it would certainly improve us in an area of the team where we are clearly struggling. yoda-jag
Seems he's been involved with the Jags before don't like the modern day habit of back panels, but if we were ever to have another strip with a backpanel, as seen in this pic, red makes the strip look much better than yellow. Don't see anyone moaning, just stating some facts. Think we will all be delighted if he signs and turns out to be a great addition. It's an area we desperately need strengthening. My point is that he has been at his club for close on 10 years and not made 100 appearances. Take someone like Banzo, who has been at our club from an early age. Do you think he would still be at the club if he had averaged 10 games a season for nearly 10 years? Pie Of The Month
He made his debut in January 2007 so it's really 7 and a half seasons and he has made 142 appearances. 06/07 - 13 appearances in the Belgian top division at the age of 18 (relegated in the relegation playoff) 07/08 - 23 appearances in the 2nd tier 08/09 - 32 appearances in the 2nd tier 09/10 - 25 appearances in the 2nd tier (promoted) 10/11 - 13 appearances in the top tier 11/12 - 22 appearances in the top tier 12/13 - 9 appearances in the top tier 13/14 - 5 appearances in the top tier He broke into their team quite young then they got relegated and it allowed him the chance to play regularly. He continued to play fairly regularly when they got promoted until the last 2 seasons where he missed the first 6 months of the 12/13 season with a knee injury and then the new manager Stanley Menzo would appear to have left him out completely last season bar a few games. Since Bannigan has been brought up Frans had 106 appearances by the time he was Bannigan's age, Bannigan has made 132 (I think, might be a few games out either way) so there's not much in it as it's the last couple of seasons where Frans' appearances have dropped off.
