simoncordiner
Welsh's delivery at corners is rotten. Erskine too over responsibility for corners earlier in the season and the delivery was much improved. And I can't remember him scoring a free kick since we've been in the Premiership and he must be approach his 100th attempt. Seriously, is there no one who can hit a better ball? I bet Barton can strike the ball better... Edited November 6, 2016 by simoncordiner
Metz
Agree our corners are rotten. It's easy to blame the taker however I'm not one for criticising Archie but in this regard I blame him completely. Firstly for continuing to utilise the same taker regardless of the poor return and secondly for not working on alternative options such as short corners or even having someone atthe back post when the ball often over shoots the box. jaggy
Did we not score from a corner on Fri? Also had 2 other good chances from them? I think we've also scored a few from corners this season. I'm not saying the corners are great and we can probably do with some variety, but we've had a few successes this season Edited November 6, 2016 by jaggy

Lindsay hits the crossbar at McDiarmid and Barton's goal. Seems a strange time to be critical of our corners or the guy who takes them. Winter of '63
Presumably, Sean Welsh takes the set pieces because he is regarded as the best at the club for the role...I would certainly agree that too high a percentage of the deliveries are not very good but apart from Erskine, who did not come on until late on, there was no one else in the side who I would expect to hit a decent set-piece...and if you watch the highlights of the game, apart from the goal, two of our best chances and the Osman penalty claim came from crosses from Welsh. With respect 3 efforts amongst a plethora of poor quality attempts only backs up the law of averages theory rather than an inherent quality in the process. The timing might be odd but the subject has been long overdue, we can surely do better than is currently being served up?
Woodstock Jag
My main objection is free-kicks tbf. We've got no one who can leather it while keeping it on target.
Roque
His set pieces are really inconsistent (varying levels of poor, mostly), but we've scored from 1 in each of the last 2 games so I suppose if that continues then no reason to take him off them. But I hate that for every decent corner we'll have 3 that don't clear the first man, 1 that'll be too deep and another floater that's easily headed away. The Earl of Hathaway
Get Bob McCulloch back in in January. Best free kick taker of the last 20 years. Alternatively, I'm sure Ross Forbes could be persuaded to move from Morton.....

That definitely is more of a problem than corner taking. If you have a quality free kick specialist the opposition will be more inclined to pull out of tackles in turn increasing the chances of scoring from open play. As it is they can feel relatively safe giving away a free kick. Never given it much thought but the free kick specialists that immediately come to my mind Ross Forbes, Big Boab and further afield Beckham, Le Tissier & Pirlo all have one thing in common, a lack of pace. That's probably no coincidence as without pace you have to offer up something else. If Welsh improved the shooting aspect of his game it would compensate for his major failing, slowness. eljaggo
Do the rules forbid players to lift team mates as per rubgy line-outs? If not, that might prove useful for corners, and for free kicks and long throw-ins into the box. Nothing else we do seems to work.
