Jags vs Wasps

His first answer on Jagszone this evening was “We were good in the first half”. No we weren’t!

To add: match stats say we had just 2 shots on target over 90 mins. Well one of them was from Ablade in the second half so one shot on target against lower league opposition in the first 45 = “good”…

The squad isn't that bad. We need a defensive midfielder if we are going to play McBeth at centreback and cover at rightback. We also have too many players in the squad who should have been moved on such as Williams, Lyon and Bannigan.

However I don't think Doolan knows how to get the best out of the squad. He's fixated on playing the same formation and defaults to safe choice like Bannigan rather than changing formation to get the best players on the park.

I could easily see Brian Graham stepping up and doing and getting a tune out of this team. Graham has a ruthless streak that Doolan just doesn't have.

I certainly don’t think Graham would be accepting of Chalmers invisible performances so far for a start

Pathetic from the club and Doolan. That interview should not have been behind the Jagszone paywall. It should have been free to view. Otherwise, it was utter rubbish from someone who doesn't seem to have any fire in his belly. We "asked" them to play better he said. He strikes me as one of those dejected teachers whose class just talk over the top of him. No authority whatsoever. I don't see Scott Brown sulking and mumbling at the break. I'm sure he'd tell them to either sh1t or get off the pot. It's actually a bit sad to see such a legend of the club sounding so emasculated and incoherent. He certainly wouldn't inspire me, or indeed frighten me.

I think there has to be a mix of carrot and stick - you can't rely totally on just one of them. I know there is always some sort of pressure at each club but is the "we have pushed the boat out for you and now expect promotion" position from the Board putting the manager under additional pressure as well as putting a target on our backs for other teams?

Why not select the team in the same way that Manchester United select boys to sign for the Club:  make them run from one end of the pitch to the other and select the fastest ones.  That would get rid of a few of the laggards.

Unfortunately he looks completely baffled, he should be ******* absolutely raging after that performance but he’s too nicey nicey.

Chalmers needs told to actually try and make some sort of  impact on the game or he won’t be playing !

Fitzpartick needs put on a ******* immediate diet, Bannigan just need put doon tbh.

I've said this for weeks the  4 5 1. Formation dosent work anymore.

Everyone knows how we play.   ITS  so defensive and boring  to watch and now starting to put fans off. .

As for fitpatrick   he's told to play defensive  and how would  you feel like running from our own 18 yard box to start a attack .

Great goal today by bbg but didn't do much after it we all love doolan  but I give him the next two games  if no better results then whoever is running this club will need to make a decision  before fans walk

I don't so much mind 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 however we need to be able to change from playing inverted wingers.  Thats the bit every team has figured out. Lawless and McMillan worked it very well but that's about it.

Chalmers is very left footed and we play him on the right. Get him on his natural side and put crosses into the box. We have a very tall striker who very rarely gets anything to put his head on.

I would prefer a move to 4-4-2 so we can get Ablade's pace next to Graham but that definitely requires the wide midfielders (Chalmers and Fitzpatrick) to play on the natural side.

Me too. Issue is, according to Dools interview, 442 is a gung-ho tactic. Has there ever been such a risk averse former striker?

We scored a good goal fairly early and then as we did against Clyde stopped playing. We were not great in the first half but the second half we were terrible. Imo nobody gets pass marks and that includes the management team, a big improvement in performances and results in the upcoming games or Doolans position should be in doubt.

Agree about us stopping playing after scoring which seems to be a bit of a recurring theme, surely you want to get 1 up then 2 then 3 whilst we seem to think "job done".

Look at the middle of the park, every team needs a proper runner in midfield. We don’t have one at all. Not one of our midfielders had a great engine they’re all far too similar !

Yep and Bannigan is completely symptomatic of this.  Ridiculous he got a 2 year deal at the time and unforgivable if he gets a new contract at the end of the season  -would be the perfect epitome of the cuddly toy if he does

Not a fan of Bannigan and not particularly wanting to have a go at him. However we are too slow to get rid of players when they are no longer performing.

Bannigan was really done in 2016 but 8 years later he's still with us for what seems like no reason other than he's been with us too long to let go. The idea that Bannigan is classed as a 'legend' dilutes the achievements of proper players.

Jamie Lyon has been tried for about the last 4 seasons and hasn't shown anything that says he's able to cope at this level but we keep him because he's been here for a long time. Williams has shown nothing that would make you believe he can make it at this level but he's still here because he's a nice guy.

Stanway cost us the game a couple of weeks ago but he's straight back in the squad as soon as his suspension is up. Nothing form the manager to say what he did wasn't acceptable or any fine.

Players need to see visible signs that there is a consequence to not performing. That means players leaving and the means players getting benched. We seen to have just recruited this summer rather than shed the dead wood and we seem to worry more about players feelings than results.

Is there problems in the dressing room?. How does doolan keep all these players happy. Another right back signed on Thursday only to be recalled by his club yesterday because of an injury. How much is being spent on this squad.

Who was recalled?

Where was O’Reilly today? I’m really starting to think the Dools has no idea of his best 11 or formation

I’m out of likes but agree with everything you said mate

Well it was a done deal on Thursday.

Why would we be looking for another right back having recently signed one? What we really need is a defensive midfielder.

Someone who was at the board Q&A recently said the board were confident we had the best team in the league. Hopefully that was just a bit of bravado, but if they really believe that - and are continuing to through money on top of a 26 player squad - they’ll be pretty pissed off if we lose again next week, which on the evidence of the rotten start we’ve had to the season is likely.

Can assure you he was signed on Thursday.  Believe Williams wants out on loan. Someone did say the hibs lad can play in midfield.

Stanway made a mistake and you’re right it cost us the game, but wouldn’t be too harsh on him. Hopefully he learns from it, I woulda had him back in instead of Bannigan to be honest. He at least had energy levels to help the team out.

Bannigan can pass the ball and that’s kinda it now, can’t tackle .. can’t run. Just pointless him being on the wage Bill IMO.

I just don’t think Doolans got the balls to go in and have a go at them, a few of them could do with a proper bollocking.
