Attendances Again

I think the cold hard truth is that people are just not committed Jags fans and I make no apologies for that comment. Thistle is my life, win or lose, I've been at every match, home and away, over the past 3 seasons. I've said it once and I'll say it again, my love for The Jags is UNCONDITIONAL!

C'MON THE JAGS!

That's all very well but my life isn't 100% Thistle and not many folk can genuinely say that their's is. I have relationships, friendships and other interests that place demands on me and my wallet. I have limited cash to splash so sometimes other things take precedent. A couple of weeks ago there was a lot of gigs I wanted to go to, I didn't go to them all but still couldn't justify the expense of football come the weekend. Then last week a lot of old friends got together for a weekend holiday, again - that took priority. This week I've got a 40th, a friend's kids birthday and a Stag at the weekend and they'll soak up all the time and cash I have. Football is expensive and to be honest not always the most fun, so it's not surprising that numbers aint good even in the best of times when it only takes one other thing during the week to drain the wallet.

It's embarassing to see the reaction whenever a friend suggests tagging along to a game and I mention the price. As has been said by others, all teams are relying on loyalty for their gate money, but we really need to address how to attract more people in the first instance. I doubt knocking anything less than 50% off the ticket would make much difference, and even at that probably not enough to justifty the loss of revenue. So, if the product on the park is going to remain pedestrian at best, with Premier pricing, how do we make the Firhill experience one that folk would love so much they would rave about it and get their non-Thistle friends all to come with them next time?

The Kids For Free thing is great but what else could be done to keep families coming in? More marketing of it? Absolutely. Better organisation? I know the kids can meet players in the 'Player's Zone', but where the hell is this mythical place? You really have to spell this stuff out!

The catering is a disaster as Firhill. The Aiken Suite is probably my least favourite place to have a pint anywhere. It wouldn't take much to make it somewhere you might want to hang out rather than the souless vacuum it is now. What about a bit of invention with the food? What else could the caterers on the concourse provide that would make the day's experience a bit different. The Pie Of The Month was a step in the right direction. There are how many pie stands all selling the same thing - why don't they vary it a bit - noodles? fish and chips? something a bit different?

What about the bing? I know there are undoubtedly a million H&S rules against it but why not level it off a bit and in the summer let a limited number of folk go and watch the game from there? You could have families putting out the picnic blanket and enjoying the good weather. No-one else does that - yeah ok it's a bit of silly idea, but wouldn't it look better that what we have and wouldn't it mark us out as being a bit different?

What about buying a 'box' for a game or the season in the main stand? It's totally depressing looking at an empty stand - there must be some way of generating a revenue from it?

Firhill needs to become somewhere really great to go. At the moment, it's a pretty rank place to go. The cost versus product ratio is rubbish - the prices are only going to go up and the quality of football will always remain crap, so we need to set ourselves apart from the rest of the drivel served up in the league and become something people rave about no matter what happens on the pitch.

And the cranks who come on here spouting their venom with their FTOF agenda arent exactly encouraging possible paying customers of all sorts to give any support to the PTFC cause.

Well done guys!

Adding to my post I would say that if I brought some pals and they were subjected to the " Knuckledragger " invective then I'm sure they would "revert to Type!"

Just had a quick look through the paper and our game had the 3rd highest attendance in Scotland this weekend only Celtic V Abernine and Hibs V Hearts were bigger. I know there were special circumstances surrounding our game but the attendances at the SPL games except the 2 mentioned were shocking

That's it in a nutshell. I love football and used to watch any I could. Now I rarely switch the telly on for it as I'm sick to the back teeth of the game. TV has a lot to answer for.

What he said, and the chap afore.

I've cancelled Sky as I was sick of myself for watching junk games that just washed over me. I could watch games and not actually notice who had played well etc. And as for the pundits.......

Football is about to eat itself.

Thousands of empty seats at most Premiership grounds this weekend again I notice.

PS I'll be getting Sky back as soon as the Ashes starts though.

I've been thinkin bout this for a while (at least 2 seasons). Attendance figures work for the club and to a certain extent the papers, gowd luvv em. I only go to away games now because Firhill's DEAD. There's no-place to sing, dance, chant anymore without tripping over someone's "precious darling" who's in for free and who's daddy's a lawyer just waiting to litigate against NORMAL behaviour. Bring back THE SHED, let's do the old chants, let's have the strength that chucked the British Movement and National Front off OUR TERRACES back (never mind harking on to the old days of letting the Section B through OUR door and then shouting "Nazi scum" as they passed by).

Before anyone thinks that I'm talking outa my Ar*se remember Hearts away, Wed, Brian (moustachee man) Whittaker scoring the winner 2-1 the Jags, over 2000 there. Remember Metz away, over 1000 in the ground over 1,000,000 allegedly outside (sorry I'm I mixing up France with someplace else? - over to either GMP or the Guarda Civil?)

Point is - when I was a wean it was an over the park (from Ruchill originally) and over the turnstille for free, so in effect the Thistle ALWAYS let kids in for free. Back in my day there was fights, there was swearing, there was nae pishers worth using (anyone remember the old battle ground that was the "away" open air bogs?) It never put me off, in fact made me want to come again. Today we have a bunch of posers on the park and a relegated PC brigade parents that want the best views and none of "that stuff" .

Move the kids to the far side, let the "Shed" prosper and move to at least the end where "banter" can be heard by the measely away support and let's go for it.

that is one of the most intelligent things i've heard on this. Firhill is DEAD. u can't swear or nowt. can't create an atmosphere. they say they want us to be a family club but we always have been. we should be allowed to create an atmosphere

£17 is too dear.

It drove me to watching the juniors instead after 25 years

pish. So, if we took the median lower league price of, what £14 or £15, you'd be there? Or if it was only a tenner that would suit you better? FFS, it's just a few quid difference: and just another crap excuse. The idea that if Thistle drastically cut their prices the gate would be well up is rubbish - we'd just lose yet more money.

As an aside to that, I can't be arzed with people who come on here and state that they don't go to Jags games but give us their opinion anyway: when you stop going to the games could you please just fk off from the forum too?

So how many games do you need to go to before you're allowed an opinion? 1? 2? 5? 10? 32?

Per season:

No home games attended and no financial support given to the club: no opinions allowed.

Only away games attended: no opinions allowed.

I home game attended: 1 opinion allowed, preferably on the "general chat" forum.

2 home games attended: 2 opinions allowed, one on each forum.

3 home games attended: 6 opinions allowed, freedom to flit between forums.

4 or more home games attended: spout as much garbage as you want, anywhere. You deserve it.

why. are you only allowed an opinion if you've been to a certain amount of games? i was only at a handful of games last year. I was out of work and found the footie too expensive. I supported them home and away for over 25 years previous to that, as did my family and friends, so by my reckoning that entitles me to an opinion, is that alright with you?

Down boy, I was only trying to figure out at what point it became too expensive for those who say £17 is too dear. Was it too dear last season? Or the season before that, or the 3 before that? Football is over-priced for sure, it is not cheap to follow Thistle but when do you stop going citing the price as a reason? If someone was an ever present in 2008/09 season can they really say they don't go this season because it's £17 in? That's all.

i think if i was in the same situation i would go to firhill as them any jobs need doing for the price of the admission to firhill, maybe worth thinking about.
