now it's irish referees. if this wasn't the sfa, it would look like a half-decent wind-up of both ugly sisters.

Correct.

(Southern) Irish refs, in the main will be kaffliks - inviting a hissy fit from the Hunnic hordes.

Scandinavian whistlers will generally be of the Lutheran brand of prodisints; cue pathological screams from the Tims.

Best bet is to import - starting now - Japanese or Korean refs; mostly likely to be into Buddhism or Shintoism and not giving a flying feck about the competing brands of poison that afflicts the tiny wee minds of our civic cousins.

Costs? Not a problem, surely.

Celtic are the second most successful club in Scottish football, how they can think there is a referee bias against them I don't know. This isn't a case of the refs spitting the dummy out because of criticism, abuse towards match officials has been going on for as long as I have attended football. Celtic, and to a lesser extent Hearts, are questioning their integrity, a totally different situation to asking whether they are competent.

Celtic have always had an unjustified element of paranioa within their support, however it seems that the board are now validating the anxieties of these nutters. IMO this is down to the reducing gates at Parkhead, by implicating some sort of conspiracy they are attmepting to rile up the fans and get bums back on seats. Lawwell and Reid, whatever you think of this political past, are intelligent men they know what they are doing.

Its crazy was goes on in the minds of these people, see below;

According to Radio Scotland, the Icelandic FA granted the SFA permission to speak to their refs. They did so and have been told by the refs to shove it on the grounds of solidarity with their Scottish counterparts.

It could be the only way games will go ahead at all on Saturday is if our own refs call off their action.

Even if someone is willing to come in from abroad, the SPL and the Challenge Cup Final will likely take preference. (28 bodies required for these games alone to go ahead).

I love this comment from the Icelandic FA chappie

It is a delicate matter as it involves industrial action but the season is just over and the referees are in good condition.

Glossy coat, wet noses. nicely groomed? I hate to see a referee badly turned out.

We should get some retired refs to help out. Kenny Clark, Willie Young and what's Les Mottram up to these days?

If today's crop of refs think they face too much abuse just stick Mottram in charge of a Jags game.

Incidentally if the SFA only get a handful of refs for Saturday will they "prioritise" and stick them in the SPL games? Bitter irony if the Celtic game gets a ref at the weekend and other matches don't.

All 3 are too old, rules state scots refs must be under 47.

As for KC, he is too busy siding with the refs and appearing on Newsnight Scotland alongside Micheal Kelly and Graham Spiers. If you have 20 minutes spare, strongly recommend you watch Monday nights programme which was dedicated entirely to the ref debate, where Micheal Kelly shows it isn't just the current Celtic Chairman who's an absolute spanner.

It would be quite funny to see a referees' picket line.

a picket line wouldn't be allowed as it's not a strike, insofar as referees being self-employed, are not subject to laws governing striking.

one by one, refereeing assocs across europe are confirming that they won't help out.

so effectively, there's a good chance financial chaos could ensue as a result of a few trained volunteers deciding that they're not going to turn up this weekend - law suits from satellite broadcasters unable to show telivised games, non renewal of sponsor deals etc.

karma?

SFA spokesman said

The Scottish FA can confirm that agreement has been reached with several European National Associations to ensure matches in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and the Alba Cup final will be covered this weekend.

"Negotiations are continuing with other national associations to help ensure that some, if not all, matches in the Scottish Football League go ahead as normal.

"Clubs will be informed by 3pm today whether their matches will go ahead or not in light of the Scottish Category One referees electing to persist with their withdrawal of labour

So the Celtic home match gets preference over most other senior games.
