  1. Past hour
  2. Question regarding what is a foul. It happens week after week when a defender has his arms all over the attacker, manhandling with some force, but a foul is rarely given. When did that stop being a foul.
  3. Today
  4. Currently just arrived in Trieste, Italy. We have been out of the UK for the past week and a half, with intermittent Internet coverage. I know that you have had a wonderful sports writing career, and your post (as well as finding out yesterday's result) has really given me a wonderful start to a sunny day. What you say still brings joy, & I wish you many sunny days for the future. I hope the team management and players read your entry, & understand why they need to see the season out in style! Up the Jags!👍
  5. We need a massive recruitment whatever league we are in. I think that only 11 of the current squad are signed up for next season. 6 of yesterday’s starting 11 will be off.
  6. He didn’t have many but did make a good save from Fitzy’s last contribution. Mitch never had much to do either
  7. The most interesting part of the afternoon was a half-time conversation with a Frenchman, part of a party of around ten over in Scotland for some sort of celebration, possibly a wedding? They were staying in Edimbourg, but were keen for some football, and having heard of Partick Thistle, were eager to see us in action. They enjoyed the atmosphere in the John Lambie, and loved Kingsley. With help from Auld Jag's fluent French, I hope that I managed to explain the following: Partick is 3 miles from Maryhill. If you want to describe our team in one word, it is "Thistle", not "Partick". Games with Ayr are normally entertaining and high scoring. The Premier League play-off system. I think he got it!? That for people with intelligence, character and independent spirit, Thistle are the only football team in Glasgow worth supporting. Sadly I had to concede that yesterday was pauvre fare. I do not think that they will be abandoning their support of Olympique Marseille to be travelling over to Firhill on a regular basis.
  8. Yes, at that point O'Reilly was rushed into readiness to come on. However, it would seem that the urgency dissipated, as O'Reilly was stood down and sent for a few more runs before coming on 5 minutes later. So there was perhaps an element of precaution, but not undue concern.
  9. I noticed he was holding the back of his left leg about 5 minutes or so before he came off.
  10. Couldn't have put it better myself. Glad you enjoyed your day and hope you have more to come. Once a Jag always a Jag.
  11. Yesterday
  12. Excuse my self indulgence but having attended estadio firhill since 1956 I hope you will bear with me. I have been struggling with a vile illness for three years now so I don't meander up the garscube road with the fleet footedness of my youth. Yesterday afternoon my family (all of whom except my wife are Ayr united fans) treated me to an afternoon in hospitality. There I met my old pal Denis mcqude plus countless other jags' fans, each and every one a delight. But what makes us unique? People like Robert Reid, players like daft Denis, and dear, old Molly stallon who ran firhill during various regimes. Owing to illness my 68 year fascination with firhill may be drawing to a close. But, by jiminee, how I have loved my near ,seven decades at estadio firhill. And so, to those who follow after, there will be ups (precious few) and downs (far too many) but the maryhill Magyars are unique and however it came about we are so, so lucky to be part of the jags' family Again, excuse me, I am approaching 74'and I had a few drinks in hospitality. I thank you one and all for reading this and, as we used to say in bygone eras... FIRHILL FOR THRILLS...
  13. Too many pointless sideways passing, and too many of those passes either under-hit or over-hit, or poorly received. Oh, and the terrible, inaccurate punts. Not to mention the totally useless throw-ins, not helped by nobody showing interest in receiving one. Midfield weak, too often sitting back. Some poor final balls at the end of attacks, and poor attempts at finishing (did the Ayr keeper actually have even one save to make?). Otherwise, well played!
  14. We ll see. Many thistle fans didn't predict our performance level last time round in the play offs. You may have been in that camp too. Let's cut to the chase and forget the referee conspiracy nonsense. That's too OF for my liking. Nb the ref was v good today as others have said.
  15. Was Aero injured? Well other than the injury he's been carrying all season. I took that it was a substitution to give O'Reilly minutes and Aero a rest.
  16. Cannot think of anything to argue with anyone about. As I walked up the road after the game, I reflected that I had not shouted at the referee as much as I normally do and that he indeed did all he could to let the game flow without inserting himself unnecessarily into the action. Good to see that others also recognised a sensible refereeing performance. Not much else to say. I am sure that we can take it up a level in the play offs. I hope that Aero’s injury was not too serious. However we do at least have decent back up in O’Reilly.
  17. I would love to be wrong but don't think I will be. If the miracle did happen and we got promoted we would have to embark on a massive close season recruitment campaign as I doubt many of the current squad are either ready or good enough to play in the SPL. We would also need more than Karma - we would need a competent and impartial referee.
  18. Like last week he tried to let the game flow. He got some right and some wrong but overall can’t complain
  19. A photo drinking a beer in the Louden bar ought to secure any refs future in Scotland. …. 🤝. 😉
  20. Only fella I can think of in recent years is James Craigen. But he was nowhere near as skilful. I'd like to see Fitzy switch wings more often. Especially with no Lawless these days. Oh, he's a Rangers supporter? Agree. Thought he had an excellent game.
  21. If only the match thread had been raised a bit later, we might have won 4-0
  22. Ref was Matthew McDermid - the most recent appointment to the FIFA list in January. It is his 4th Thistle game this season having done the previous 3 against Dundee United. He is easily the best we have had this season and very consistent as to what is a foul. I think he has a real chance of going to the very top
  23. Agree with most of what's been said The positives - another clean sheet. Cut them open a few times and Graham and Robinson both missed sitters. I haven't managed along to many games this year, was my first look at McBeth apart from a sub appearance at Cappielow months ago, like of the look of him. First I've seen O'Reily too and I thought he looked decent in his cameo. Negatives - yeh just overall, end of season waste of time feel to it. Thought Neilson struggled in midfield - too upright & stiff a runner for a midfield, too slow on the turn, be hard to change the shape/personell after so many clean sheets but can't help thinking McBeth in the middle instead of him and O'Reilly next to Aero would be better? But with so many clean sheets, maybe changing it would be stupid. Yeh an off day for Fitzy, but u have to give him then, cos you know when the lights are on in the play offs, he'll produce moments. I've been going to Thistle since 1992, i cant think of a more two footed player we've had in that time than Fitzy. Agree about the ref - thougth he was excellent, game flowed, wasn't too whistle happy. Was a really easy game to ref to be fair, but he's best ref I've seen in a long time.
  24. Thought the referee was very good, kept the game flowing even if he played the advantage once too often, but head and shoulders above the usual standard. What was the refs name? McBeth deservedly MoTM, a good signing.
  25. Luke McBeth was man of the match..saw him getting the award in hospitality.
  26. In summary: The game started at 1500. The game finished at 1648. In the intervening period, bugger all continued to happen. This was fully reflected by the absence of a man of the match announcement. Man of the match for me? The referee, who kept the game flowing using the advantage rule where possible (even if not always correctly) and used his cards only when he had no other choice late in the game.
  27. A draw a fair result, both teams had chances and failed to take them, couldn't tell if Graham was offside when he put the ball in the net seconds before half time. Neilson was very poor. Thought the ref was ok. A point that all but sees us 3rd and another clean sheet.
  28. Thought Fitzy was struggling after 20 minutes.. typical end of season game.everyone got a rest today..
