What game was it @stuthejag?

Any idea why Terrace not open. Anything to do with JHS construction?

The JHS was open a good bit before that and there was decent crowd, so not sure why terracing wasn't open.

FWIW, I would have had absolutely no idea what the game was!

Just noticed @The Thistle Archive page is down, went on to see what I could find. Got this from BBC Sport. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53242515

The last time I can recall the City End terracing being open was for our relegation decider against Ayr at the end of the 1997-1998 season.

Was it? The overspill that day was to the old north terracing & I’m sure Ayr were in the Main Stand. there’s a famous wide angle photo taken that day that might back me up

On further reflection I think that you are right. I have a vague memory of this being the last time that a particular terracing was used, but as you say it must have been the North End rather than the City End.

I seem to recall sitting in the old main stand to watch the Keflavik game. I don't think they opened any other part of the ground as there wasn't expected to be any away support and limited home support because it was played in the summer and almost like a pre-season friendly

I was definitely in JH for both home Inter Toto games

John McVeigh on the right.

Not sure if the guy in the middle voted for the trip to Firhill to get his picture in the paper.

Don't recognise the guy on left but hopefully he had a better career than the other two

Could be wrong but I thought you could choose either end of the ground for the Ayr game.

Remember at half-time a good few Jags fans trying to run along the side of the pitch to get to the opposite end that Thistle would be shooting into. We were stopped by the police.

Again memory not the best but were there not circa. 13,000 at the game?

Would 13k fit in only the JHS, Main Stand and the North terrace?

A guess, based on the players' body language:... draw!

Two truly great players. I was too young to appreciate him but Davie mathers was one of three jags named in Scotland's 1954: world cup squad. The size of that crowd makes all us oldies quite misty eyed. And two lovely strips - even in black and white they look amazing...

Mathers played 8 times against Motherwell at home but Hunter only played in one of them.so it looks like it was the  1-1 draw on 30/8/1958. There is  evidence Firhill still had some grass so August looks ok!

Ledgerwood, Davidson, Baird, Mathers, Hogan, Donlevy, Smith, Wright, KERR (58 MINS), McParland, Keenan.

Weir, McSeveney, Brown, Aitken, Martis, McCann, HUNTER (34 MINS), Quinn, St John, Forrest, Weir.

Att:  20,600.
