JeanieD
My late father used to tell me that full backs used to back away when he came towards him but such was his pace he could give them a 5 yard start and beat them over 10! thistle4celtic1
R.I.P. Johnny Mackenzie. The only Thistle player I wish I had seen play in person. My Dad told me so many stories about how great a player he was.
briogadh
Staying with my " Glasgow aunt" in Shhakespeare Street aged 14 I was taken to Firhill on Christmas Day 1948. On the way along the canal bank the lads tspoke in glowing terms of their new winger. " Just wait till you see him!" And John Erchie did not let us down. The opponents were Morton, then a force in the land with three Scottish internationals, including Jimmy Cowan whose heroics at Wembley a few weeks later helped Scotland to gain a 3 -1 victory. In the second half John Erchie sped down the wing towards the Ruchill End and delivered whaat was then called a "daisy cutter" across the Morton penalty aea, where their finehalff back Billy Campbell desperately sliced the ball into his own net Thistle 1 Mrton0. Happy days, happy memories. Bi sinn gad ionndrain a Sheonaidh
