The Jukebox Rebel Posted January 4, 2015 Report Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) New thread for 2015, a place where we can all keep a watchful eye on all the current streaks, blips and whatnots... 04.01.2015 Partick Thistle 2 Dundee United 2 (SPFL Premiership - game 19) Injury-ravaged Thistle list only 5 League substitutes for the first time since seven subs were allowed in our Division. Seven subs were introduced to the Top Flight in season 2004-05 - the season after the Jags were relegated. Seven subs were introduced to the second tier in season 2013-14 - the season after the Jags were promoted! Last time we had 5 subs for a League match was on the 4th May 2013 when we drew 0-0 at The Rock. Funnily enough, that game and today's represent Liam Lindsay's only 2 starts! Ten Scots start for Thistle for the first time since 16th March 2013 when we beat Hamilton 2-0 away. Conrad was our only non-Scot on that occasion too. Declan gets his first competitive start for the club. Abdul misses a Thistle game for the first time, ending his brilliant run which began at The Rock in July 2014. Scott Boyd stands as the last Jag to appear in all competitive matches of a season, achieved back in 2006-07. Gary, Ryan and Stephen now lead the way with 9 consecutive appearances each. Partick Thistle have now played 25 competitive games without repeating a W-D-L outcome, an unprecedented 26 game sequence which stretches from 3rd May 2014 to date. This is by far the longest run of its kind. The closest such "freak streak" happened between April to October 1920 when we played 15 competitive games without repeating a W-D-L outcome, a 16 game sequence which stretched from Sat-24-Apr-1920 to Sat-02-Oct-1920. Thistle are now 4 games unbeaten at Firhill. Liam is now 3 competitive games unbeaten as a first team Jag. 7 yellows is the highest card count in a Thistle game since 23rd November 2013 when there were 8 yellows and 2 reds. Versus? Dundee United! Thistle are now 18 Premiership games without a win in the disciplinary stakes. Thistle finished bottom of the Premiership Fair Play table in 2013-14 and are currently on course to do so again, with 47 yellows and 2 reds in just 19 games. Yes - you're right - I included the 2 Hamilton goals, but I forgot to remove the Dundee United game - I thought they scored in the last minute - but after checking realised it was the last 10 minutes or so. So still 8 points - a lot to lose in the last 2 minutes. The highly secretive Thistle goals panel, who allegedly sat whilst the fifth track on the fourth side of the album "The Beatles" played subtly in the background, judged that the intervention of our number nine was ultimately responsible for the trajectory of the ball to the net. Unlike down South, there are no ruling bodies in Scotland determining goal scorers for statistical purposes so the clubs up here are free to allocate the goals as they see fit. There can't be too many Jags who have scored more than 69 competitive goals. 22 of them I reckon I think it’s impossible for anyone to be absolutely definitive in reply to this query but I shall do my best to answer you Mr. D. I’ve been doing a fair bit of work in this area over the last year or so and, as a result, have greatly reduced the number of unknown goals – highlighted by the ever rising Willie Paul total. However, there are several hundred goals which remain unaccredited, mainly from the 19th century. The majority of them are likely to remain that way, but I would still expect to find more scorers which could affect the all-time table. To boot, there are yet still newly discovered games which pop up occasionally. Also, as more and more press becomes digitized and accessible, some old disputes can be settled which occasionally mean the odd goal being added or subtracted here and there from a players’ total. All that said, I believe the following will be very close to the true picture, but please bear in mind it remains a work in progress… Also, I believe that this table should be reported with all goals included – it seems like fair play when comparing 140 seasons of Thistle history. However, I’ve listed the “Top 40” in three styles for easy comparison - All games, All competitive games and League Games only.
