:detective: New thread for 2015, a place where we can all keep a watchful eye on all the current streaks, blips and whatnots...

04.01.2015 Partick Thistle 2 Dundee United 2 (SPFL Premiership - game 19)

  • Injury-ravaged Thistle list only 5 League substitutes for the first time since seven subs were allowed in our Division. Seven subs were introduced to the Top Flight in season 2004-05 - the season after the Jags were relegated. Seven subs were introduced to the second tier in season 2013-14 - the season after the Jags were promoted!
  • Last time we had 5 subs for a League match was on the 4th May 2013 when we drew 0-0 at The Rock. Funnily enough, that game and today's represent Liam Lindsay's only 2 starts!
  • Ten Scots start for Thistle for the first time since 16th March 2013 when we beat Hamilton 2-0 away. Conrad was our only non-Scot on that occasion too.
  • Declan gets his first competitive start for the club.
  • Abdul misses a Thistle game for the first time, ending his brilliant run which began at The Rock in July 2014. Scott Boyd stands as the last Jag to appear in all competitive matches of a season, achieved back in 2006-07.
  • Gary, Ryan and Stephen now lead the way with 9 consecutive appearances each.
  • Partick Thistle have now played 25 competitive games without repeating a W-D-L outcome, an unprecedented 26 game sequence which stretches from 3rd May 2014 to date. This is by far the longest run of its kind. The closest such "freak streak" happened between April to October 1920 when we played 15 competitive games without repeating a W-D-L outcome, a 16 game sequence which stretched from Sat-24-Apr-1920 to Sat-02-Oct-1920.
  • Thistle are now 4 games unbeaten at Firhill.
  • Liam is now 3 competitive games unbeaten as a first team Jag.
  • 7 yellows is the highest card count in a Thistle game since 23rd November 2013 when there were 8 yellows and 2 reds. Versus? Dundee United!
  • Thistle are now 18 Premiership games without a win in the disciplinary stakes.
  • Thistle finished bottom of the Premiership Fair Play table in 2013-14 and are currently on course to do so again, with 47 yellows and 2 reds in just 19 games.

The chances of such a streak occurring at random are over 1 in 30,000.

If we hadn't scored or conceded in the last 2 minutes of all games this season, we would have an extra 8 points (Dundee 1-1 20/12, Hamilton 3-3 1/11, D Utd 0-1 18/10, St M 1-2 19/9, Hamilton 1-2 23/8) and be in 6th place.

Dont want to be pedantic, but it would be 9 points (both Hamilton goals on 23/8 were in last 2 mins, so we would have won that game) Also, Hamilton would have 5 points less.

Actually since he came up here as a youngster and went to school here (he was brought up Edinburgh and supported Hearts) Balatoni would qualify to play for Scotland (if he was good enough) so you could say 11 Scots in the staring line up until Craigen came on.

I think that Craigen's father is Scottish so James would also be qualified to play for Scotland.

Yes - you're right - I included the 2 Hamilton goals, but I forgot to remove the Dundee United game - I thought they scored in the last minute - but after checking realised it was the last 10 minutes or so. So still 8 points - a lot to lose in the last 2 minutes. If we're on level terms, or ahead with a couple of minutes to go, we should do everything to waste time, bring on defenders, etc.

Computer says no. Ha-ha, yep fair comment. To all intents and purposes Conrad's as Scottish as Edinburgh Castle Rock. Or maybe, Arthurs Seat when he's on a bad day.

Its actually 1 in 17,456,234

Ma heid's buzzled. :wacko2:

You might like this facility at statbunker, check it out. If games finished at 80 mins we'd be 21 points ahead of St Mirren!

I think yesterday's goal means Doolan has scored against every team in this league except Aberdeen (although goals vs Dundee and Hamilton were in the second tier).

Nice one. I shall be rooting for the No.9 on the 4th April. Hopefully he'll get more than 20 minutes to have a crack at them. ;)

Worth mentioning that was Kris's 75th goal for the club - 69 competitive and 6 friendly.

Here's the breakdown by club:

9 - Queen of the South

6 - Ayr United

6 - Stirling Albion

5 - Cowdenbeath

5 - Falkirk

5 - Raith Rovers

4 - Greenock Morton

4 - Ross County

3 - Dumbarton *

2 - Clyde *

2 - Dunfermline Athletic

2 - Hibernian

2 - Inverness Caledonian Thistle

2 - Kilmarnock *

Just looked it up! Very vague memories of it now, particularly the screamer they scored.

Official site lists scorers as Ross Forbes and an O.G. though?

From what I can mind the game was spoiled from our point of view by Craig getting sent off. Don't think an upset was ever on the cards but we weren't very good playing with ten men.

Re the Alan Redford “o.g.”, there was a later twist to the tale. The highly secretive Thistle goals panel, who allegedly sat whilst the fifth track on the fourth side of the album "The Beatles" played subtly in the background, judged that the intervention of our number nine was ultimately responsible for the trajectory of the ball to the net.

Unlike down South, there are no ruling bodies in Scotland determining goal scorers for statistical purposes so the clubs up here are free to allocate the goals as they see fit. Freeze frame action suggests our panel got it right, subtly influenced or otherwise!

Where does that put Kris in the all time scorers list ? There can't be too many Jags who have scored more than 69 competitive goals.

22 of them I reckon :secret:

I think it’s impossible for anyone to be absolutely definitive in reply to this query but I shall do my best to answer you Mr. D. I’ve been doing a fair bit of work in this area over the last year or so and, as a result, have greatly reduced the number of unknown goals – highlighted by the ever rising Willie Paul total. However, there are several hundred goals which remain unaccredited, mainly from the 19th century. The majority of them are likely to remain that way, but I would still expect to find more scorers which could affect the all-time table. To boot, there are yet still newly discovered games which pop up occasionally. Also, as more and more press becomes digitized and accessible, some old disputes can be settled which occasionally mean the odd goal being added or subtracted here and there from a players’ total. All that said, I believe the following will be very close to the true picture, but please bear in mind it remains a work in progress…

Also, I believe that this table should be reported with all goals included – it seems like fair play when comparing 140 seasons of Thistle history. However, I’ve listed the “Top 40” in three styles for easy comparison - All games, All competitive games and League Games only. At the time of posting, Kris sits joint 23rd in the first two categories and joint 16th in the latter.

League Goals Total – Player

note: in the interests of fairness to players of every era, I include all of the primary League campaigns, 1891-92 to date, extraordinarily including the two pre-SFL Alliance seasons and the seven Regional League seasons from WWII time which are usually ignored by statiscal databases. In line with the general historian consensus, I deem the 5 SFL games from the abandoned competition of 1939/40 to be voided and do not include them. This should be the most accurate of the three scoring charts - @ 6 January 2015, all bar 21 of the 6564 goal scorers are known.
