Whether you personally like Kingsley (the mascot, not the sponsor) or not, this has to be seen as a good news story. Loads of people have been asking me about it and the global interest in the story is phenomenal. (Was there a Scottish club involved in a European draw yesterday ?)

The important part is what happens next. The board need to find some way to turn this interest into revenue.

two things...

Firstly, I really can't believe the publicity that this has generated. So we have a mascot that looks angrier than most traditional mascots. And maybe a bit silly. Is that so revolutionary that it warrants worldwide publicity? Would I be interested if some foreign team came out with a silly looking angry mascot? Not in the slightest. So I don't really get it, but no doubt it's a good thing for Thistle.

Secondly, and I'm surprised it hasn't been debated more, what do we know about this company? People have referred to booze and betting companies, but is this more ethical? Company seems to specialise in sort-selling, or profitting from other people's misfortune. Yet maybe does so through exposing financial misdemeanours and fraud? It's above my head. Are they financial Robin Hoods? Or just bsterds? It certainly seems an "interesting" business model.

Even the Guardian is getting in on the act.

Although this guys does talk a fair bit of cr@p and misses the point a bit regarding Jags fans.

Although I thought this comment was quite good:

"As a Partick Thistle fan, I deplore Jonathan Jones' lack of perception and wit. The majority of le massif de Firhill have taken Shrigley's jeux de sprite with our habitual understated appreciation, and look forward to more location specific installations this year - of course, the Maryhill Magyars are no strangers to performance art, as anyone who witnesses their regular satires on conventional football tactics (such as their wilful spurning of the open, and therefore valueless, goal) can attest to.

Perhaps Mr Jones should confine himself to the lower end of art, and leave its Higher manifestations to those of us more familiar with the output of the school of Jaconelli."

This must be one of the best sponsorship deals ever for Kingsford Capital. The amount of global interest for a relatively modest sponsorship outlay is unprecedented. David Shrigley is also getting a lot of press coverage, so this looks to be a win-win-win situation.

Congrats to everyone involved, whether this was foreseen or not.

From The Guardian .....

Cuddly, child-friendly icon or not, Kingsley has rivals quaking in their boots. The Hibernian mascot tweeted a picture of himself trembling before an image of Kingsley’s sunny snarl. “There is a long history of mascot combat and there will definitely be some mascot combat in the new season,” promises Shrigley, who is contemptuous of the Hibernian mascot’s reaction. “That’s a second-tier mascot and a rodent to boot. If we’re going to take criticism, we’ll take criticism from Premiership mascots.”

"Partick Thistle fans have hurled abuse at their new mascot - but they are wrong"

Really annoying piece in today's Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jun/23/partick-thistle-mascot-david-shrigley-kingley accusing Thistle fans of being hypocrites based on a totally unsubstantiated claim that we are horrified with our new mascot.
