Delighted for the young lad. It's so good after 30+ years of wait to have a Jags youngster that looks like he could have a top level career.

According to the press at the weekend Celtic are in the market for a young centre half to bolster their squad in the winter break. I would be disappointed if he ended up a squad player there, but wouldn't be surprised to see them try and sign him.

If you've time scroll thru this http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/search/942648/?q=Lindsay&o=date&c[node]=130 Impressive as that is we all know Liam can chip in with a few goals as well, something I don't believe he's done yet at Barnsley. Can imagine the accolades Liam will be getting once he scores a goal or two.

Worth minding this is a young Scots lad who has never been near our international set up at any level. Criminal as that is it indicates his development is more or less down to the efforts of Archie, Shaggy and Scott MacKenzie*.

*eta I just trust their efforts will be acknowledged financially once the various add ons kick in

Barnsley relegated from the Championship today, a setback for Lindsay's career and sell-on value. They were doing enough to stay out of trouble until the manager who signed Lindsay left for Leeds United in February. They made the mistake, like Rangers, of thinking that a manager from the same country as Mourinho must be good. He was sacked today.

Lindsay had two years left on his contract when he left, he could have been kept for another year and then sold to a club that might have progressed his career. Instead, he left for a quarter of the price of Jack Hendry, and it's been downhill for Thistle ever since.

It's becoming clear that losing  Lindsay was the single biggest blow to the club at the end of last season.

That we'll now get less for him than some of us were anticipating is just another item on the Jags' conveyor belt of misfortunes.

Thank goodness we've had and still have the Weirs.

Its a fickle game.  The money is only on the table when it's on the table.

Is he worth more because he's playing with a team fighting for survival in a lower league on England or the Premier league in Scotland or is it his own ability and his agent's ability to promote it that commands the fee?

Either way we are sat today with the benefit of hindsight and some cash in the bank.  The offer was on the table and the boy wanted to go.  If it had been Banzo moving on for a fee and he'd then spent more time on the table than on the park we'd be breathing a sigh of relief.  Thats football.

I hope for Liam's sake that he comes out of it OK and that his own career progresses (maybe he'll be able to identify a Brazilian granny and he can avoid a call up to Eck's Scotland squad) to better things and we can point to him as 'wan of oor ain' in the future.

...oh, and real Scots use the Record for wrapping fine china for a flitting and lighting a fire in the winter!
