No To Newco Campaign

Given the strength of opposition to Newco being admitted to the SFL First Division or even Divisions 2 and 3, it would make sense for the fans of all clubs to campaign together. Joint action could include

- website with petition(s), polls, blog, donations, merchandise selling etc

- paper petitions

- demonstrations at the offices of the SFL and SFA

- letter writing to the media (joint and individual signatories)

I am sure that others will have more ideas. The main point is that collective and co-operative action is likely to attract more support and publicity. The bigger the support, the greater the pressure on the SFL and club boards to say no to Newco.

Someone has to take the initiative and form an organising committee, ideally made up of fans and directors of clubs that are opposed to Newco being parachuted into the SFL or a restructured league set-up.

Your opinions and ideas please!

One thing is for certain here. All Jags fans MUST unite together regardless of previous disagreements to oppose this.

Only a united front will force the club to act.

True but we are only one club with one vote.

I think he means the current newco may collapse very soon, in which case there may not be time to drive things through (at least with any kind of newco included which kind of isn't the point).

I was wondering about that. If newco collapses, Green or another of his companies could hold onto Ibrox and Murray Park. No wonder that John Brown is so worried - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18606923 - "Brown, who recently resigned as a Rangers scout, has questioned whether Charles Green holds the title deeds to Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park."

I agree entirely and the only way in which our supporters can have a discernible influence is via the club. Therefore, it is vital that any concerned with the soul of Partick Thistle keep pressure on the club by e-mail, letter and of course by withholding financial support as a last resort. This latter being in the last analysis the only real lever the ordinary supporter has over any club. I welcome any suggestions for any action anyone else might suggest- I draw the line at marching behind a band playing "traditional" tunes...lol!

I am not one to get too excited by the detail, indeed I wonder how some of you guys have the time and energy to hate upon this situation so much, but here is a copy of a simple email I sent to the club.

Dear David,

I have watched with interest as recent developments in Scottish Football have unfolded. I am not one for repeating history or clogging up emails with unnecessary points, so I am going to keep me point simple. PLEASE VOTE AGAINST THESE PROPOSED CHANGES. Quite simply Rangers/Sevco should enter the Scottish Football system at the bottom through the usual application procedure. There is no other way.

I am not going as far as to say that I won't be back at Firhill if this vote does not fall correctly, but I would urge you to make a positive statement engaging with the views and opinions of the club supporters.

Best Regards,

Andrew Holloway

My email to David Beattie.

Mr Beattie,

I’m sure you are aware of the groundswell of concern within the ranks of the Partick Thistle support at present as a result of the situation with Newco Rangers, the idea that they might get into the 1st division and the comments from you in the press recently (which I know can often be misrepresented and were based on hypothetical scenarios). I know you are a busy man, and will be more so with all the emails you’ll be receiving, and I know we are all talking about hypothetical stuff here; but I implore you to read on.

It has long been said that our club belongs to the fans, now more than ever is the time to listen to us and for the Board to take action based on what you hear/read. If the club truly belongs to the fans the club will listen to the majority of the fans and there won’t be a problem. If they don't listen to the fans and endorse Newco into the 1st division (in whatever guise that division is) then they have shown that the club does not belong to the fans at all.

My son and daughter represent the 5th generation of Jaggy blood in my family and this situation has had me thinking of 'chucking it' more than any defeat or low point in our history has ever done (all Thistle fans of a certain age will have been there several times I'm sure). If Thistle are implicit in allowing Newco into SFL1 next season, I don't think I could stomach it. I’m not going to threaten to hold out on buying a season ticket or boycott games, but if it comes to pass that Newco are in any league other than the lowest one next season, Scottish football itself, not just PTFC, is dead!

So, I ask only this. If (IF) we have a say in where Newco Rangers will play next season (and we will if/when the SPL vote ‘no’ to their entry there), for the sake of the LONG TERM stability of the club, please put sporting integrity and the reputation and values which our club is built way ahead of commercialism.

I stress again, in this instance I feel it is vitally important the majority of the fans are listened to here. I understand the fear being felt and the potential hurt we could be causing ourselves, but if Newco Rangers are anywhere other than the lowest league next season then I will be at the ‘what’s the point’ stage. ‘What’s the point’ in Scottish football and, by extension, ‘what’s the point’ in Partick Thistle (including ‘what’s the point’ in yourself, others on the Board and the growing number of volunteers knocking their pans in to keep our club afloat and running efficiently)...the heart will have been cut out of the game I’m afraid.

Sincerely

Me.

Can I just ask one question of the "numbties" who apparently run Scottish football, do you think we your customers are bloody stupid?

I have had to sit and put up with for years one club receiving favorable treatment from referees etc., I consoled myself with the thought , no matter how alarming that t was due to simple incompetence. Now when faced with cheating on an almost industrial scale, instead of being punished the whole structure of football is re-organized at the drop of a hat( a thing incidentally we were all told was impossible to contemplate).

While their at it do you want me to sell my family into slavery and remit the proceeds to Ibrox?

As a reasonably educated person I can only conclude that this desire to aid Rangers, and the lengths to which the authorities are willing to go reveals the existence of total moral bankruptcy on the part of the authorities.

I'm convinced if it comes to a vote Beattie or whoever has the say on our behalf will vote no.

My concern is that is any plans of a play-off gone forever as well as a fairer distribution of revenue. Its ******* bribery.

Of course it is. The actual plan is good with the one ONE massive flaw. Pretty sure if its not accepted it will never be brought up again. Straight forward case of accept it and let them back or that your last chance of getting the league set ups sorted for a long long time. I would rather my club went into the junior leagues than bow down to corruption and bribery!

I think you are right. To lose so many Thistle fans over this would kill the club within 2 seasons and too many of us are willing to walk away. I know of at least 10 that I regularly go to games with that will never be back, most are season ticket holders and most pay into the centenary fund every month.

Put simply the club cant afford to not listen to the fans

Whilst i am of the opinion of ALL of the Thistle posters in that it would be corruption of the worst kind to let Newco start in Division One, I sympathise with David Beattie et all at Firhill.

While I dont think the financial gains would actually move us on anyway, the pressure that they must be under will be HORRIBLE.

Remember, as proud as we are of being a Glasgow club, on the right side of morality, the fact that we are a Glasgow club makes us an easy target for people trying to exact any revenge.

Thistle fans would be subject to worse abuse than ever before from these cretins, and the club itself would be under threat. We have seen what disgusting lenghts these people are prepared to go to becasuse they think They are the Peepul !!.

I am still insisting that Thistke say NO, but it is easier for us to say that whilst saying we would do it if we were board members, ratherb than being faced with the cols hard facts of this problem being slapped right onto your lap.

I love Thistle with all my heart, my fear that if this goes wrong we will die very quickly.

Rattled mine off at lunchtime

Dear Mr Beattie

I write with regards to the on-going media specualtion of a newco

rangers possibly being admitted directly into SFL Division 1.

I note that your official statement to date confirms your position in

terms seeking the views and opinions from Partick Thistle supporters

in order to make a decision that promotes the best interests of

Partick Thistle Football Club and Scottish Football as a whole, i

would like to add that as a lifelong Partick Thistle supporter for

over 30 years, i have serious concerns for the future of Partick Thistle

should the club vote a newco into the 1st division. Every other club in

Scottish football has to play by the rules and progress through

Divisions 2 and 3 by getting promoted on the pitch, rather than off it.

Whilst i also whole heartedly agree with your position that

fundamental changes need to be made to Scottish Football, sporting

interity has to be paramount in this instance and I strongly implore

you to follow the stance of Raith Rovers, Falkirk & Morton who have

all offically said no to newco being admitted directly into SFL

Division 1.

Yours sincerely

I'd have to say that I'd wear being abused by these morons as a badge of honour. Just so long as I don't have to wear a t-shirt with their faces on it.

It's nothing to do with cold, hard facts, it's to do with bribery and corruption. Rangers can **** off and join SFL3 - we can have the same season that was being budgeted for.

The financial challenges are going to be more of an issue for the SPL clubs and massive fair play to those that have effectively put a block on Rangers playing there. It's the SFL who have little to lose that are in danger of compromising (that's actually way too polite) their credibility for a quick buck.

They're not going to do it in my name. That's for sure

Getting a worrying vibe that the First Division clubs are about to accept the proposal on the table. Still not convinced Sevco will make the start of the season however but it does look like a lot of tummies are being tickled.

Well if thats the case, its the end for me, my two kids and two mates not just with Thistle, but with Scottish football, forever. We have all agreed on this. There will be no return and that will cost our club around £120 every fortnight till the day we shuffle off this mortal coil, but none of us are rich enough to justify paying good money to see a rigged and corrupt league.. Its gonna be a tragic day for Scottish football and for my family....100 years of heritage down the drain!! Lets hope your info is wrong Michael
