I don't see how he's going to ever be ready for the first team if he doesn't get a run out. We're unlikely to play minor opposition in the League Cup again and with that in mind I'd rather see Gabriel play a league game sooner than later. If Archie sees fit to start him, I'll trust his judgement. I've yet to be convinced by Gabriel in any of his showings but I suppose you're right that we're going to have to pitch him in at some point to see whether he sinks or swims. The situation reminds me of seeing that Eddie Forrest was being given his first start against Celtic (and Larsson, I may add) and fearing the worst but he was actually one of our better players that afternoon, if I remember correctly. Hopefully, should Balatoni not make it tomorrow, Gabriel can perform in a similar fashion although I'd hope the result will be better than that game!
