The Sunnylaw Jag
The first three - the fourth was added because I can't help thinking of that creep when looking back at the 70s and 80s. So you won't be watching Match of the Day at 50 on Friday night then, as I'm sure he'll be in it.
sick in the basin
Wondering why we were singing about "Old Moscow" in my first few games !!! Memories of 2 x Iain Jardine screamers in consecutive (midweek?) games where we put 4 past Airdrie and Morton during early 80s relegation battle All white away (spall?) away strip - favourite ever Grant Tierney og v Clyde from just about the corner flag Time standing still as Forfar denied last min pen in promotion clincher back to premier league "Broomgate" v Aberdeen in the cup! lady-isobel-barnett
Perhaps my memory playing tricks. On occasion of the Grand National did the half time score fella come back round with the names of the first four home? Maybe it was just at Firhill, maybe elsewhere/most grounds or maybe as I say I just imagined it.
Mr Bunny
I remember that. it was Shoot that gave them away. I loved it. Hah, we're finding out the youngsters here. They gave these things away in just about every comic at one time whenever they needed a sales boost ... and comics that existed long before specialist football comics like shoot. And yes I do remember the confusion in our team when the new offside rule was brought in circa 1926. Was quite young then though. brodieboy
1. The added pressure/embarrassment when you took a friend to watch the Jags, during our slip and slide down the leagues 2. Arguing with my Mother as to whether I should be allowed to go to Inverness midweek, on a school night 3. Lambie's Friday night signings 4. Lambie's debatable loyalty to 'grafters' 5. Albert Craig chasing Gareth Evans down the tunnel at Brockville 6. The constant disappointment in the cup 7. Pannini stickers 8. Tob Jag
1) Stopping at sweetie shop at Queens X for bag of "Oddfellows" 2) (As a ball-boy at reserve matches in the empty Shed) Firing 'Ring pulls' from cans at each other and not noticing the ball had been kicked into the terracing and getting shouted at by players and Main stand spectators! 3) (also as a ball boy) Getting Dextrose tablets from Jackie Husband wrapped inside a bandage to hand to players to tie-up their socks. It always felt so secretive as if you were giving them some sort of boost to improve their game. 1970+ ah the memories. Shed a few tears thinking of the Firhill Family and all the greats no longer with us. Tob Jag
JeanieD
My dad's pal Alex buying "Olde English Spangles" in the cafe on the corner of Benview Street opposite the park, The half-time draw tombola thing and the guy walking round with the results board, The old floodlights - they looked like car headlights - on wooden poles behind the goals - 40w bulbs in the gloom
Blackpool Jags
^ ^ ^ That cafe on the corner of Benview St sold the best quality ice cream there's ever been. Totally beyond doubt. A few years ago, before the midweek LC game against Aberdeen (the one where Lord Roberts missed a penalty! I know - unthinkable), I drove up Firhill Rd to see if that cafe was still there. It had gone, and probably decades ago. I was distraught. .............................. Memories of getting the North West bus to a crucial league game at Arbroath in season 70/71 (we won 2-0) and lying to my maw about where I was going, then finding out, as we arrived at Arbroath, that the bus was staying overnight. Climbed over the wall by the sea to avoid the admission fee (which we didn't have!)and finding out after the game that the Knightswood or Anniesland bus (I think) were willing to take me and my wee mate back to Maryhill that night. Phew!

weebaldie
Being excited walking up to Firhill and seeing the BBC outside broadcast vans with huge cables running into the main stand through the windows. STV on the other hand didn't seem to need such obvious 'technology'. On the rare non-Old Firm televised occasions, a chant of 'We're on the telly' could heard at the start of the game. Sitting in the Main Stand watching mid week reserve games... in the seventies and eighties we always did well and generally finished near the top of the reserve league but never actually won it although we did win the Reserve Scottish Cup and League Cup. The main stand could be almost full against the OF and I can remember the terracing having to be opened one sunny August evening. We beat the OF often and it was hysterical to hear the roasting that their outnumbered fans would get. There were sometimes even mini match reports in the papers next day. Saturday afternoon reserve fixtures.... the phone would be heard ringing just before or during half time, and you'd hear a murmur about 'that'll be the first team's half time result'. After the game, a crowd would form around the main entrance outside, anxiously waiting for someone to come and tell us the first team's full time score. The one and only Alf Stamp (1972-75), a superstar who never got a game for the first team.......
Members Willjag
Alf Stamp was a reserve legend! Only Denis McQuade stopped him becoming a first team legend!

I while back I bought a lot of old original match-action press photos of the Jags. Many of them have printers' markings on them, and the ball has been cut out of the picture and re-stuck on somewhere else. I'm pretty sure that these must have been used for "Spot the ball." Back in the mid70s my pal Jim had a Saturday job on the Sunday Mail - part of the job was to make sure a ball was in whatever crop of the picture was being used (it hardly ever was) so he had to stick an appropriate sized picture of one in frame. No Photoshop in those days

G Jag
1 - Everytime we arrived near Firhill seeing more tenements being demolished. My dad grew up in Firhill Road and would tell stories about the streets, pal's who lived there, middens he'd raked for bottles etc. 2 - A roof was put on the "toilet" as you came into the turnstiles at the City End and a couple of guys exclaiming "it was too fancy", "what's up wi pishing outside?" 3 - Pishing behind the shed against the wall cause it was too far to go to the "toilet" at the turnstiles. 4 - Chewing gum and macaroon bars.
