Fawlty Towers
Good to know that the SFA are focusing on the main issues though: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34103855 I am sure Mr Finnie will be questioned just as much over his performance on Saturday
Woodstock Jag
Definitely not offside
Mr Bunny
Sportscene tonight had several terrible refereeing decisions on show - including the Rooney handball incident - so much so at one point Stuart Mccall said they ought to be having ex-referees commentating instead of ex-players like himself. Jaggernaut
I see that the officials felt that they had to send off a QoS player against the h uns at the weekend too, even though accounts suggest that if anyone should have walked, it should have been one from both sides. But surprise surprise.

Exiled AusJag
Definite handball but possibility of being unsighted just at the critical moment.
Big Col
Even if the ref was unsighted, there was still the linesman and 4th official. Surely one of them would have seen it?
Exiled AusJag
It does happen that both the ref and A/R can be unsighted at the same time. If you look at the position of the hand in relation to the body, the head is obscuring the hand when viewed from the position the A/R would be in on the touchline at the time. The fourth official's duties mean that he isn't necessary watching the field all the time.
jaf
The a/r was in front of me, at a slight angle.....it was clear...he was in position to see it, but chose not to...
ian_mac
I don't recall ever seeing a 4th official intervene in decision making - so unfair to include him in criticism.
Barney Rubble
I don't recall ever seeing a 4th official intervene in decision making - so unfair to include him in criticism. The one at Palmerston did yesterday.
ian_mac
The one at Palmerston did yesterday. You are correct but that happened right in front of him.
wes
I guess when considering if the ref could be unsighted, it is also worth remembering that Rooney has jumped at the time, and the ball is above the towering height of Liam Lindsay’s head at 6ft 3in. It follows that it is likely that the ref can see the incident because of this height. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, it is clear that there is a significant distance between Rooney’s head and the ball, so one or other must be within the ref’s field of vision (at worst only Osman’s head can obscure his view). So the ref can see that the ball has not hit Rooney’s head, and unless Rooney is physically deformed or there is an invisible force field in that area of the pitch, the only reasonable explanation for the ball to divert in the opposite direction in which it was travelling is that the ball hit Rooney’s hand. Love to think it was a genuine error, but the evidence points entirely to a blatant deliberate decision by the ref not to award a hand ball.
Fearchar
There is also the trajectory of the ball to consider: it travelled above Rooney's head height behind him and then bounced back down in front of him so that he could score by kicking it. Maybe Newtonian physics can't explain everything above quantum level after all!
