10.03.2018 Aberdeen [h] D0-0 (SPFL Premiership - game 29)
NO GOALS

  • Thistle's 10 matches of 2018 have now seen an astonishing 51 changes to the starting eleven.
  • Baily Cargill, who has registered 100% game time since he joined in January, gets his first clean-sheet at the eighth time of asking.
  • Thistle finally put paid to a number of H2H consecutive defeat records, most notably the run of 8 consecutive competitive game defeats which had begun on the 8th March, 2016.
  • Thistle go 14 competitive games without a win versus Aberdeen (30.08.2014 to date), the longest run since the H2H record (18) was set between 1979-1993.
  • Thistle's goals-per-game tally in the League falls to 0.897 (26 in 29), and remains on course to be the club's 3rd lowest return of all-time.

ongoing sequences:

  • 6 competitive games without a win, 3rd Feb 2018 to date. (Longest run since: 9 games; 11th Aug 2017 to 14th Oct 2017. Club-record: 26 games; 28th Nov 1908 to 25th Aug 1909.)
  • 11 competitive games without a clean-sheet away from home, 4th Nov 2017 to date. (Longest run since: 11 games; 10th Aug 2013 to 1st Jan 2014. Club-record: 89 games; 31st Oct 1885 to 23rd Jan 1897.)

17.03.2018 Hearts of Midlothian [a] L0-3 (SPFL Premiership - game 30)
PROBLEMS AT BOTH ENDS

  • With an average age of 28y, 3m, 25d, this starting line-up resets the bar as the oldest of Alan Archibald's managerial career. You need to rewind back to February, 2011, to find an older Thistle team.
  • In competitive action, Thistle haven't kept a clean-sheet away from home since a 0-0 draw at New Douglas Park back in October. It's the longest such run since a 13 game streak back in 2007.
  • Thistle have now played 6 competitive games without a win at Tynecastle.
  • Thistle have secured only 0.833 pts per game in this season's League action, a return which is on course to be the lowest since the calamitous campaign of 2003-04 (0.684).
  • Thistle have failed to score in more than half of their away League games this season, firing a blank 8 times out of 15. Such a thing has only happened 5 times before, most recently in season 2014-15 when Archie's side failed to score in 11 out of 19. Indeed, including the current campaign ratio, Archie's sides have 3 places in the all-time bottom 8 in this regard, having failed to score 9 times out of 19 in season 2015-16.
  • Thistle's goals-per-game tally away from home in the League falls to 0.6 (9 in 15), and is now on course to be the club's 2nd lowest return of all-time. The club-record (0.412, 7 in 17) was set in 1912-13.
  • Similarly, Thistle's overall goals-per-game tally in the League falls to 0.867 (26 in 30), and is also now on course to be the club's 2nd lowest return of all-time. The club-record (0.806, 29 in 36) was set by Murdo MacLeod's Thistle in 1995-96.

ongoing sequences:

  • 7 competitive games without a win, 3rd Feb 2018 to date. (Longest run since: 9 games; 11th Aug 2017 to 14th Oct 2017. Club-record: 26 games; 28th Nov 1908 to 25th Aug 1909.)
  • 12 competitive games without a clean-sheet away from home, 4th Nov 2017 to date. (Longest run since: 13 games; 24th Feb 2007 to 10th Nov 2007. Club-record: 89 games; 31st Oct 1885 to 23rd Jan 1897.)
  • 33 consecutive competitive appearances for Ryan Edwards, 8th Aug 2017 to date. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Jimmy, 3 times we've been unchanged this season (all after a positive result) and have lost the second game:

13.12.2017 Motherwell [h] W3-2 (SPFL Premiership - game 17)
16.12.2017 Dundee [a] L0-3 (SPFL Premiership - game 18)
Tomáš Černý; Paul McGinn; Blair Spittal; Jordan Turnbull; Niall Keown; Danny Devine; Martin Woods; Adam Barton; Conor Sammon; Ryan Edwards; Miles Storey

19.11.2017 Heart of Midlothian [a] D1-1 (SPFL Premiership - game 14)
02.12.2017 Hibernian [h] L0-1 (SPFL Premiership - game 15)
Tomáš Černý; Paul McGinn; Jordan Turnbull; Niall Keown; Danny Devine; Adam Barton; Blair Spittal; Ryan Edwards; Miles Storey; Chris Erskine; Steven Lawless

28.10.2017 St Johnstone [h] W1-0 (SPFL Premiership - game 12)

Tomáš Černý; Paul McGinn; Steven Lawless; Jordan Turnbull; Niall Keown; Danny Devine; Adam Barton; Blair Spittal; Conor Sammon; Ryan Edwards; Miles Storey

Interestingly (or maybe not!) the last time we had the same starting eleven for 3-in-a-row we won all three:

11.04.2015 Motherwell [h] W2-0 (SPFL Premiership - game 33)
25.04.2015 Ross County [a] W2-1 (SPFL Premiership - game 34)
02.05.2015 St Mirren [h] W3-0 (SPFL Premiership - game 35)
Scott Fox; Stephen O'Donnell; Callum Booth; Conrad Balatoni; Freddy Frans; Abdul Osman; Stuart Bannigan; Ryan Stevenson; Lyle Taylor; Steven Lawless; Kallum Higginbotham

Not sure what to make of that but I see in those three instances we only used a total of 12 outfield players.   Probably different formations granted but those six games above came within a seven game spell. Funny how I thought differently but we did kinda play with a settled squad (as much thru necessity) for a time at least.

31.03.2018 Hibernian [a] L0-2 (SPFL Premiership - game 31)
NO GOALS, NO CLEAN-SHEET, POOR DISCIPLINE

  • Thistle's highly unusual run of fielding unsettled starting elevens continues, now sitting at a mammoth FIFTY EIGHT changes in the 12 games of 2018.
  • Ryan Edwards registers his 100th competitive appearance as a Jag, and is the 8th member of the current squad to do so.
  • With his 26th consecutive appearance in competitive action, Tomáš Černý equals his personal-best run in the team. Alas, the injury-prone 'keeper breaks one of his own unwanted records, becoming the first Thistle 'keeper in history to be substituted 5 times in competitive action.
  • Ryan Scully extends his own, and the club's record, by coming on as a substitute 'keeper for the 5th time in competitive action. True to form, the 'keeper continues to register awful stats; in the 31 games that he's played, the Jags have conceded 1.68 goals-per-game and the clean-sheet ratio falls to just 16.1%.
  • Danny Devine, by far the most indisciplined player at Firhill in recent times, registers his 21st yellow and 3rd red card in just 67 competitive games for the club.
  • In the head-to-head, Jags are now on a run of 3 consecutive competitive defeats versus Hibs; the worst such streak since a run of 6 was set back in 1973. Perhaps worse still, we're also on a run of 16 competitive games without a clean-sheet against them; the worst run since the H2H record of 22 was set in 1973.
  • Thistle lose to nil for the twelfth time in this season's League campaign. Only two season's have produced greater totals; there were 13 losses to nil in 1908-09 and 15 losses to nil in 1995-96.
  • Thistle are now 13 competitive games without a clean-sheet away from home; you need to rewind back to 1996 to find a longer run (14).
  • Thistle's nightmare season in front of goal continues, the latest instalment being an awful run of 351 competitive minutes without a goal. It's the sixth time in the Archibald era that Thistle have failed to score in (at least) 3 successive games.
  • Astoundingly, Thistle have now failed to score in 14 of their 31 League matches this term. The class of 2017-18 are on course to register the highest failure to score rate (45.16%) of any Thistle side in League history. The current record is held by Murdo MacLeod's Jags who failed to score in 16 out of 36 (44.44%) in 1995-96.

ongoing sequences:

  • 8 competitive games without a win, 3rd Feb 2018 to date. (Longest run since: 9 games; 11th Aug 2017 to 14th Oct 2017. Club-record: 26 games; 28th Nov 1908 to 25th Aug 1909.)
  • 13 competitive games without a clean-sheet away from home, 4th Nov 2017 to date. (Longest run since: 13 games; 24th Feb 2007 to 10th Nov 2007. Club-record: 89 games; 31st Oct 1885 to 23rd Jan 1897.)
  • 34 consecutive competitive appearances for Ryan Edwards, 8th Aug 2017 to date. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Stark reading @The Jukebox Rebel

Creating chances has been a major issue going back to last season for me. It's really caught us out this season coupled with some poor defending.

Spot on. I really can't mind games when we've missed sitter after sitter.  Sure the likes of Storey and Azeez in particular have had their moments but it's the games where we haven't created any/enough real chances that stand out, in number anyway.

I was curious to know if Thistle attendances have changed since we have been in the Premiership, and also how these compare to attendances for the league in total - our market share.  Of course the data are subject to the vagaries of the split and also to some extent to the return of Sevco, Hearts and Hibs, but the results make interesting reading.

They are based on average published attendances for each club for the season, and not on the Club's estimate of home fans.

Thistle's share of total premiership gates has fallen from 4.1% in 2013/4 to 3.5% in 2014/5, 3.3% in 2015/6, 2.5% in 2016/7 and in the current season currently stands at 2.5%, although that figure will probably fall with smaller gates post split.

Given that the 2016/7 share would be boosted by our top 6 finish, and a likely fall this season below the season to date 2.5%, Thistl'e share of Premiership crowds has fallen year on year since joining the SPL.

Why?

Not really when you think about it Lenziejag.

Ok - I will make an attempt without actually looking at the figures.

2013/14 - Novelty for visiting supporters not having been in league for 10 years. Celtic support down due to no Rangers.

2014/15 - No Hearts or Hibs

2015/16 - Hearts back in

2016/17 - Rangers back in

2017/18 - Hibs back in

You make a fair point lenziejag, but of course bigger clubs bring bigger away support which has an effect.

Also comparing Thistle to similar clubs  during the same period shows our share to have shrunk to a greater extent:

Kilmarnock down 3.5% to 2.8%

St Johnstone down 3.1% to 2.1%

Motherwell down 4.2% to 2.9%

Ross County down 3.1% to 2.8%

So the changing composition of the Premiership does not account for all of the change in our performance.

All being down does point to it being due to those 3 clubs not being present for all seasons. There will also be some impact if each clubs results
