Aberdeenjag
It's depressing to realise that as soon as I read about this being of interest to older Jags, I immediately clicked on it! 😟

Wish you hudnae said that! Don't think I'll sleep tonight thinking about that since I was born in a Maryhill Road tenement about 20 yards up from Mason's Bar, previously known as The 419 Bar and prior to that as MacLachlan's (no' sure aboot the spelling). Jimmy McD
I started life at 432 Maryhill road just round from Hinshaw st. Hence why I support the Jags....
CotterJag
I was at 261 Garscube Road (it's still there), before my parents moved to Corby when I was just wee. Both sides of the family lived in and around the Round Toll area, with my Dad's family all Thistle and my Mums' a team we won't mention. Lambies Lost Doo
Was there an option to refurb tenements or at the time were they so dilapidated and people were so scunnered they wanted out of them? My Dad moved from a tenement in Possil aged 5 with outdoor toilet, gas lighting in close, Grandparents in 1 living room/kitchen, 2 aunties in other and him, my Gran and Grandpa in other. A bit cramped.

A bit cramped. A lot of the tenements on Maryhill Road were demolished to accomodate a motorway to Loch Lomond which was then scrapped. The city fathers, through the 50s , had plans to replace all of Glasgow's tenements with new concrete boxes. These plans were changed following the storm of January '68 when there was so much damage done and no money for new building. That sparked an interest in refurbishing the tenements and the rise of local housing associations. 1
Rid Skwerr
"a motorway to Loch Lomond" would have gone right past my door and out through the big gap in Drumchapel to the A82.....

Just knock it all down and don't worry about it............ Bing!

Lochburn was there long before that. I know because I played there for Dunard Street School in a Schools competition in the early 1950's!
