briogadh
I'm really amazed at how people can remember precisely their first game. I honestly have no idea of what mine was, and I often have trouble remembering who we played last week. I'm a real old-timer! But I have no problem remembering my first Thistle game - an easily remembered date, Christmas Day 1948. Thitle 1 Morton 0 ( scorer Billy Campbell o.g). At Ruchill end a hard low cross from Johnny Mackenzie sliced into the net by the defender. According to the Official History, the crowd was 15,000(0n Christmas afternoon!) I athought that I could rhyme off the team until I read the History - but I got only one name wrong, which I think is not bad. For the record, the team that day was : Ledgerwood; McGown (correct spelling of his name); Pirie (the one name I got wrong -I thought it was Gibb); Davidson; Forsyth ( my personal hero, having played for Ross County);Hewitt; Mackenzie; Howitt; O'Donnell;Sharp; Walker. I think the Morton team figured Jimmy Cowan, Tommy Orr, Billy Campbell and Neilly Mochan, all curent or soon to be international players.Billy Steel had recently left for the then British record transfer fee. £15,000 !! We've never played on Christmas Day since 1948, noir in my time ever played a competitive game in a Friday. SA good omen, perhaps?

We played Christmas Day 1971 (lost 1-0 at home to Ayr) which was, I think, our last Christmas Day fixture. Don't think a Christmas Day game would be too popular now. Great thread. Buckstone
Mine was a 2-2 draw with Clyde at Firhill just a few weeks before the 1971 League Cup final. When the Clyde keeper came out at the start of the game he was wearing white socks and black shorts (same as the outfield players - remember those days ?!?!) and a red top. Two ball-boys came out just behind him and I remember asking my dad if they were his sons - just because they were wearing exactly the same kit. In my defence, I was barely 6 at the time. My chances of going to the final were ruined just a couple of weeks later when I got an apparently serious dose of the measles and missed it. Typical - one major cup final in my lifetime and I'm ill. Even although my family lived in Wilton Street. Dad was overruled. Having said that, I did get 'Who's Next' in my Christmas pile that day...................... east lothian jag
For me i think!!! it was season 69/70, getting lifted over the turnstiles, once in was meeting up with the other kids and just running about the terracings!! I have a memory, dont know whether its real or not, about picking up empty "gingie" bottles and taking them upto the pie stall at the city end for money/pies/sweeties!!! i think its still just a blur that bit, cant really remember much about the football
Tom Stronach
Season 92/93. Home to Celtic, defeated 1-0 by a penalty from Frank McAvennie. Would I be right in saying that this was his first game for Celtic after he was paraded at Firhill wearing our strip? I recently read in an interview with him on a West Ham site and he admitted that he dived to win a penalty which proved to be the winning goal against us. He said that our fans were baying for his blood after he rejected us at the last minute to sign for Celtic. Said he had to have a police escort off the pitch and out of the ground. **** of a man. Yeah it was THAT game. I was 7 years old and had actually never heard some of the swear words being uttered - I wasn't even in the shed! Was a while before my dad took me back after that. erzamacaroonbars
First match was 0-0 vs Dundee in 1971, shortly after Cup Final. Game was on Sportscene that night, as were all Scottish First Division games. I think my first away match was vs Dumbarton in the same season, and first European game was vs Honved! Those were the days my friends I thought they'd never end (that could be a song!!) but they did, and shortly afterwards!

We played Dundee at Dens in the midweek following the great Saturday, to the best of my recollection. I had to dog school that afternoon to get on the bus. The Maryhill and North West buses had run a joint one for this fixture. It was 0-0 too, but you've got me going a bit about the date. The Sunnylaw Jag
Sorry to resurrect this but I wasn't about when it was started. My first Jags game would have been against Queen of the South in the League Cup Section games August 12th 1970. My two older brothers had went to a few games in the previous season and I must have pestered my Dad to take me which he did. The Jags won 4-1 with goals from Coulston(2) , Bone and McQuade. I really don't remember too much about it to be honest (I was only 7) but it was the start of a long journey which has sometimes seen me go by the wayside but I've always come back. As for my Dad after seeing 3 losing cup finals in the 1950's, when we won in '71 he decided never to return to see the Jags as he said it would never get any better! As for my son I took him to see us play St. Johnstone in October '93 just after his 3rd birthday. The score that day was . . 4 - 1 to the Jags including a Roddy Grant hat-trick Now if only I can get my H*n-loving stepson to let me take my Grandson to a game next season for another 4-! win. allyo
You forum guys are all ancient! I reckon I was at a 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Firhill in about 1980 ish? And not long after that, a 2-1 defeat to st Mirren at Fihill where Alan Rough saved a penalty. But this is vague memories and may be well off. Set me up for life though. My daughter's seen Jags winning four out of four and I'm worried that this is poor preparation.
peagreenboy
I know my first game was against Kilmarnock when we beat them. We were in the away end with some family from Ayrshire. I think it must have been the opening game of the 1994/95 season, two-nil win.

Alan100
1978? A cup semi-final at Hampden. We lost 4-2. The first game I took my son to (and daughter came as well I think), was when we drew 2-2 with Hibs, and Mickey Weir came on as a sub and promptly got sent off. The boy was sold on Thistle from that day.
Dougie T
My first Thistle game was a League Cup game at Kilbowie that Dundee United won 3-1, but I was a Dundee United fan at the time!!!! The game where I saw the light and found my true calling was a 1-1 draw v Killie at Firhill in October 1995, Albert Craig scored a penalty. First away game was 3 days later at Celtic, got beat 2-1, Tam Smith scored a consolation near the end with a wonderfully deflected free kick. Colognejag
Away to Hearts in the late 80's in the Scottish Cup, lost 2-0. My dad is a Jambo but got him to wear his Stewart's Meville FP scarf - a fine, red, black and yellow effort it is. I'm sure I have seen a couple of these scarves at Firhill recently: http://www.clanh.com/stewartsmelville/smc_senior_scarf.html

billko
He is still a Jags man. I heard he was at the Ramsden Cup final. Good to hear as i have not seen him for a few years but couldn't imagine him not being a Jags fan. He was a coach at the amateur team i played with and when our game was postponed we all went to Firhill and then on a belter of a pub crawl.
