Squad For 24/25 Season (And Signing Rumours)

Two other bids accepted from National League clubs but he wants to play in the (English) Football League. Might also see us as an option.

Agree that this one isn’t looking too promising.

Just shows it isn't always easy to get a deal over the line.

I'm confident we will get one or two over the line. Whither they are any good is my concern 😬

Peterborough triggered his Chesterfield release clause of around £250K according to reports at the time.

'Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said on his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast: “Our position with Kabongo is clear. We are asking for less money than we paid for him and offers from two clubs have been accepted. The Scottish club and Swindon haven’t offered enough.'

Reading between the lines I'd guess if we've offered anything it'll be way less than £100K. Be amazed if we matched the required amount.
Even then, if the guy has a brain, he must realise a move to Thistle is just gonna stall his career even more when Graham is undroppable for Doolan.
Interesting to see when the first game of note will be that a fully fit Graham doesn't start.

pacy and direct.  scores with his left, right and head.  takes a good penalty too.

get him signed.

Many of his goals were scored late in the game coming off the bench. Makes you wonder why he was on the bench in the first place. Very impressive selection of goals. Is there something we are not seeing?

Chesterfield seem to be awarded an incredible number of penalties!

Maybe it’s him that wins the penalties coming off bench fresh and full of running against tired defences or could be Chesterfield are the Rangers of National League.

Maybe a skewed comparison but Akinyemi ex Ayr Utd who scored for fun in our league and was top scorer has bagged 15 goals in 40 games for York in National League.  Tshimanga scored 31 goals in 44 games for Chesterfield in same league so more than double with just few extra games played.  Both 27 so a good season or two up here could see any transfer fee recouped in future.

There's ways round your first point. Offering a high % of a subsequent sell on for instance. But that depends on the player wanting to come to Firhill as opposed to other bidding clubs. And that brings us to your second point, which I agree is a real stumbling block. Even putting aside the career aspect, I should imagine he could earn more playing regularly for another club when appearance money is taken into consideration.

Turning it around to be more positive it is possible that he (or whoever) is super confident he'd make himself un-droppable. And super confidence (even over confidence) is no bad thing for a striker. Now where's that straw?

Just as a matter of interest (I do not know the answer). Are the 11 who start the game paid a higher appearance fee than those who join the game from the bench later? Or do all those who appear at some stage of the game receive the same appearance fee whether they played the whole 90 plus minutes or came off or came on at some point?

If the same appearance fee is paid regardless, then the "Number 2 striker" is unlikely to be seriously disadvantaged in terms of remuneration, even if only an occasional starter. If the (hopefully newly signed) Number 2 striker is any good at all, with 5 substitution options available, it would seem almost inevitable that they would come on at some stage in a game, whether to partner or replace the Number 1 striker.

In any case, no existing player is undroppable and no new player is guaranteed a start. Any new player coming to a new club knows he has to fight for a place, but also that he has the opportunity to do so.

Regarding your last point, I'd suggest that at least some players who arrive on loan are almost granted a place from the off, and they don't actually have to fight to retain their place. That's even if they are nothing special. It annoys me when it happens, as our "own" players are being denied a place by somebody who is no better.
