4-2 victory, will leave the analysis to those actually at the game but my observation would be that with no trialists and based on signings already made Doolan knows who he wants and they are probably known quantities at this level it is just a question of whether we can get them.

Yeah I agree FT - probably just a case of their current clubs agreeing loans or releases, or players who maybe have a couple of offers taking their time before coming to their senses and realising Partick Thistle should be there only consideration

Don't think I've been to a pre-season friendly with no trialists. Not much to comment on. Moved the ball about well on typical pre-season longish grass. Turner impressed in a sort of quarterback type role. Plus another dead ball assist. Crawford and Stanway both busy.

As usual the interest was more tilted towards the first half when we had a strong starting XI. And typically towards the end of the game we were mostly fielding youngsters. They by and large performed fine and tho' we lost the 2nd half 0-2 we kept most of the play in the opposition half. I wouldn't be over confident about next Saturday's match. Think the lack of game time could make it more of a leveller.

I would say the requirement for another keeper, right back and striker is glaring.

Yes, I thought before our only open door friendly this would be a good time to sit down with the manager and discuss how pre season is going, recruitment and push season tickets. We need to be pro active in getting people to part with their hard earned cash - it won't just happen because we would like it to. A week today is our first competitive game yet nothing on website about tickets being on sale for example. Maybe eye is off the ball at the moment with change in leadership off the pitch?

Season tickets are being advertised constantly on Instagram & twitter.   You get more attention on social media than an official site.

Glaring? I have only watched the highlights but it looked as if wasiri did well going forward at right back. Considering he is likely to be cover for who we bring in there and we have diack and a graham I would say glaring seems a tad dramatic. Goalkeeper however, I will agree as mcgready doesn’t look ready to challenge or be a competent backup as of now at this level.

Since Doolan has said similar I think I am correct despite the word I used to describe what we need.

I hope that Glenafton got a good payday from the Thistle support yesterday.  They deserve it for developing Luke McBeth into a magnificent player.  Good luck to them.

I am sure they did. Was a good setup down there and was a good day out.

He was at EK and Glenafton last season before signing for us. They certainly gave him a platform to get into the senior game.

Logan Chalmers saying the style of play under Doolan attracted him to the club and winning the league is the priority and looking to avoid the playoffs.

A good days work for Doolan and the squad who also alluded to more bodies coming in but won't say anything more until the deals are signed.

I feel it might be until the end of the window before the squad is completed.

I heard Megwa is looking to come here but is in negotiations with Hibs to extend his deal before anything is agreed on that front.

It is good to hear positive things from those around the club. Interesting too that, at the moment, we don't have anyone in on loan whilst in previous seasons it has been around 6 or 7 players. If Megwa does come here that would be a loan but even if the goalkeeper and additional striker are loans then I think 3 is a good number. I prefer having a squad made up of players who are here for the longer term (although we have had several good and commited loan players over the years).

We've now won 2 first halves to nil, and lost 2 second halves to nil.  Understandable, as the reserves get a run in the second half.  Can't comment on the Hearts game, but yesterday - 1st goal free kick went over our 2-man wall, fair enough, a good shot, and 2nd went over or past our 5-man wall and McCready made the save but then stood and watched as their guy ran in and poked it past him.  Poor.  Maybe he'd have been braver in a competitive game.

I take it we passed on the giant German?

I don’t disagree I think those 3 are exactly what we need as the finishing touches. I just thought the word glaring made it sound as if you were suggesting Williams and Diack had been poor in the game as someone who saw the game live, as I obviously couldnt make it. Goalkeeper I would say I have seen enough from the highlights to suggest glaring was a fitting word in regard to that.

Sorry mate, get what you mean now. Waisiri was fine with Chalmers in front. That could be how we go into the next few games.

Diack didn't impress me too much yesterday. He set up Mackay shortly after coming on then I didn't notice much else of note.

Not sure about Diack. He needs games and has done well but not sure if Doolan sees him as the next player behind BBG at this stage of the season. I think we need another option in as soon as a player can be sourced then get them signed. Could be a loan rather than a free agent.

Goal keeper situation probably is far more pressing. We've been linked with 3 keepers so far but known have worked so far.

I think Mason, like Diack needs regular games so I'd assume he may go out on loan when someone else is in place.

Will be interesting to see what pans out.

Agree the goalkeeping issue is obviously pressing. More so if it's deemed Mitchell isn't expected/anticipated to be first choice.  If it's just a case of a competent back up keeper then I imagine it will be easy enough going down the loan route. Much as I like a goalie to completely boss his area at least he'll be playing behind experienced central defenders. So whoever we get doesn't need to be an auld heid.

For balance alone we need an attack minded right back. Not completely convinced that Wasiri can't get up and down right flank but whether he can put enough quality crosses in is another matter. And I think it's a quality issue that's going to make bringing in an effective replacement for McMillan difficult. A rather narrow field to pick from, methinks.

Said often enough that we could do with a different type of back up striker to Graham. Someone nippy with a decent first touch. Diack I see more in the "Graham" mould and don't think Rudden is the answer. Adeloye more so the type but maybe unaffordable and or unfit. I can't see many clubs loaning us a player to be third choice striker. Think also a loan out spell for Diack and hopefully regular football would be no bad thing. A short term loan would be fine.

All good mate, tone sometimes comes across wrong when typed! Didn’t mean to come across as if I was challenging your wording oppose to questioning it. Diack is a strange one for me I am very on the fence as to what we should do with him. I think he would massively benefit from going out loan but at the same time I don’t feel confident in having only 2 strikers as options as it leaves one injury away from having no different option off the bench. Something dools will have to give some consideration.  I think wasiri may be used as our utility defender this year now that we have so many options at centre back. Another utility defender brought on loan I think would be a luxury and most likely the last move we would make in the market possibly close to the end of the window once our finances and budget is fully clear and if there is leftover to allow it.  A good backup striker with pace, a keeper and a starting right back (all of which I would expect now to be loans) and I think we have a great squad with balance in all the right areas.
