partickthedog
Just watching the JagZone highlights. Brilliant move between Milne and Bannigan to set up the second goal for Graham. Megwa really unlucky not to score from at least 3 good attempts in the second half.

I am sure that many of our ultras are equally aware and appreciative of all this. To come to their defence, after several seasons of a defective public address system which it seems cannot be fixed (whether this is due to lack of will or lack of funds I do not know), meaning that in the John Lambie Stand you have no idea what is being said, and usually no idea of who is saying it, you tend to zone out of whatever is happening in front of the Jackie Husband Stand, and focus on your own conversation, programme, pie, singing, reading the forum on your phone, or whatever. I am sure that no disrespect was intended. It is just that the "platform party" might as well be on a different planet for those of us in the JLS. Anyway, to end on a positive note, great to see Alan Hansen back in good health after all the concerns on that front only a few months ago. Alan Hansen said he was glad to be here after 40+ years and enjoyed his time at Firhill. Said it was always a great atmosphere and enjoyed the craic in the dressing room. John quipped he had tried to get him up on many occasions but he was to busy winning European Cups and the likes. John Hansen told some story about Thistle wanting to sign a forward for £100,000, while he was on the board.

The league is a marathon. 5th in October isn't worth worrying about. It's the position in April/May that counts. Results like today's - irrespective of the flaws in performance - will be significant in achieving that target. I’m not stressed more frustrated at the performances that are generally disappointing … so far it’s not good enough but we always hope ! still it’s not as bad as Valencia who I will be watching tomorrow ! Apparently the director thought we should buy the player but it turned out the player he was watching was actually a Thistle player as we were playing the opposition away kit for some reason. No idea if the story rings a bell with you? Edited October 20 by jagfox
jagfox
I've never seen so many backheels attempted by a Thistle team. Some even came off. I counted at least four 😆 Maryhill Globetrotters?

Answering my own question. Considerable. For half an hour we looked decent. Bannigan steadied the midfield, Graham scored, Chalmers looked like he'd played before. Then not for the first time we lose the run of ourselves. On to Hampden.
Garscube Road End 2
Good to get the win. More relief than joy over the win. Doolan safe for a while now But, something just doesn't seem right with players. We have not performed well with any consistency at all this season. Hopefully yesterday's win acts as a springboard to better football and a good run of victories. But, I have my doubts.
jagfox
Thistle only team from Glasgow to win this weekend. Draws for Celtic, Queen's Park and Rangers, Clyde and St Mirren all lost. What a team! 2

QP away next, they’ve improved since they visited Firhill, and our performance at Hampden will give us an indication on whether yesterday was another paper over the cracks performance (we were playing the worst team in the league) or whether we can actually build ongoing improvement and consistency. Lenziejag
A number of people have mentioned yesterday just papering over the cracks. We scored 2, had one ruled out for a marginal offside and hit the woodwork twice. Airdrie had 3 shots. What cracks were being papered over ? Because our overall play is less than convincing since July and we are well off the league pace for the squad we have. Yes we created more chances yesterday which hopefully is a sign we are turning the corner, but we were playing the worst team in the league who played 40 mins with 10 men. Lenziejag
We’ve played with 10 men twice this season and only lost by 1 goal each time, almost getting a draw in one. I don’t know what your point is.

I don’t know what your point is. The bottom line with me is the sum of the parts exceeds the whole. Most likely causing us dropped points. Exception to that is the back line where they've for the most part played as an effective unit. That's saved us points. There's signs of improvement re that lack of cohesion. If that continues to improve and for longer during the game then I'm hopeful results and scores will also improve.

We were dumped out the cups by lower league part time opposition, one of which is bottom of the bottom league. Doolan has so far failed to get anywhere near the best out of his large and presumably expensive squad. It’s been duff so far and I, like many Thistle fans, remain unconvinced by our general play. Yes we created more chances yesterday than recently but we surely expected that against the worst team in the league. October has seen an improvement relative to a low base. If we show continued improvement and get a win or draw against an improved QP on Saturday then I’ll start believing we are turning the corner.
Auld Jag
Chalmers was our biggest threat in the first half, but he should have made it 2-0 with the chance that clipped the bar, trying to be to fancy imo. We played well until we gave away a very avoidable goal, we had a number of chances to clear the ball, just put it into row Z if nothing else is on. I wonder if it is only coincidence, but that is now 2 league games Robinson has started and Graham has now scored 3 goals in them. A good 3 points, but we need to go on a run that has more victories than draws to get us moving up the league. Of course, we are well off the pace and the entertainment hasn’t been great as Doolan has tried different formations. But it isn’t a surprise that as soon as he plays a winger with Megwa that we get some attacking play. You could look on the positive in that we have drawn with the two top teams, where most others are failing to do so recently. You know in the championship you can’t expect anything.
