What is relevant is that you don’t need 33 players and our budget to be top of the league ……

we are 5th.

Why does it matter who is top at the start of November. Only once in the last 4 seasons have we not been 5th after 13 games.

Just out of interest what 7 players have you added to the ones shown on the Thistle website ? 26 players doesn’t seem like a huge squad to me, even although we’ve probably not had more than 21 to pick from at anytime this season.

I'm a bit lost here. What were we supposed to do? You said we had chances to close the gap in the last few weeks and have not progressed".

Win yesterday and go from 5th to 4th to 3rd….instead we have gone from 5th to 4th to 5th which is not progress.

The ones listed on the back of yesterday’s programme……

I wrote off our title chances in my head yesterday leaving the ground but we still have 2/3 of the season to play. I'm sure we have experience of Falkirk blowing a sizeable lead and us taking advantage not that long ago?

We certainly aren't playing like title winners at the moment but we are playing better each week imo as more players find form and build up understandings with their teammates.

I am not a fan of the doughnut in central midfield but I appreciate we are trying to play down the flanks.

There were at least three times in the first half where Robinson had made a late run into the box but the wide player either shot or played along the 6 yard box rather than cutting it back. Crawford also made a good run for the effort Fordyce had to play out and wasn't faraway from putting through his own net.

Turner did link up well with Milne in the first half but I feel he is wasted out wide and would like Fitzpatrick back out wide with Turner moving outside and Crawford dropping out. I did consider Crawford out wide but that didn't really work when he was here before and McCall played him there.

Onwards and sideways this week but hopefully get some momentum going again next week with regards to the league table.

Ok. I get it. We haven't progressed "in the last few weeks" as we've only taken 10 points out of 12.

As I said we have progressed against ourselves ( while still not playing that great ) but not against others which is why we went from 4th to 5th which isn’t progress is it.

The point was we didn’t finish 5th in any of those seasons. Where you are in November doesn’t mean that is where you will finish.

Maybe and maybe not but we are currently where only you expected us to be

I have got the programme! The difference in calculation may lie with the following:

  • 32 Sallu Turay
  • 33 Jamie Taggart
  • 36 Che Campbell
  • 37 Thomas Horn
  • 38 Luis Cameron

I am not an expert on such matters. All I am sure of is that they are at the younger end of the spectrum. I think that some of them may currently be out on loan to teams not in the top 4 tiers of the SPFL. They might perhaps be modern apprentices, but someone may correct me on that. They have occasionally taken up spots on the bench when our squad is either not fully formed or not fully fit, and may have picked up the odd minute of first team action in fixtures in which nothing was at stake or the end result was already assured.

Whether you could realistically regard them as part of the current first team squad is perhaps debatable.

They are all on loan though obviously can be recalled

For context - in the 1970-71 season in mid November we sat 9th in the league (old second division) having just been beaten by 3rd placed Albion Rovers (although we did have a couple of games in hand) - by the following May we had won the league at a (relative) canter.

Whilst it has to be acknowledged that the current squad (all 73 of them - or however many there are) is inferior to that squad and we will not win our league this season - there is perhaps no reason to despair at this particular point. There is certainly the possibility that a play-off place can be achieved which is possibly the most realistic expectation we had at the start of the season.

Onwards and upwards or sideways, or down - or whatever The Yardbirds said!

No it doesn’t it’s the players available to play ….it does include some youngsters but also Lyon and Mackenzie

Yes it does, but won't from next Saturday's onwards.

That will list only those currently registered to Partick Thistle.

A squad of 26, or 27 if you want to include new Academy graduate  Matthew Falconer.

A squad of 26/27, which includes 3 goalkeepers, seems perfectly reasonable given that you can list 20 in your matchday squad.

You’re absolutely right , you don’t win Leagues in November, when we got promoted 10 years ago Morton were circa 10 points ahead and as the song goes f…ed it up

I remember seeing this result come through on the bbc teleprinter! And having recently adopted Thistle as my team (much to the bewilderment of every boy in school) I started blubbering   🥲

Little did I appreciate it would be our last league defeat of the season…. nor could I have imagined what would happen just 11 months later….

I think we had 3 games in hand and at no stage were we ever needing other results to go for us. As it is, we've only got Falkirk to play twice and they're 12 ahead of us.

They've also already had a good few injuries, MacIver as average (at best) as he was for us is excellent for them and has missed quite a few games plus the winger Morrison has missed most of the season.

I don't think they'll keep going at their current pace , if they do, no-one is catching them, but we need to be aiming for mid-70s in terms of points in case they do drop off.

Would love to have won but that was genuinely an entertaining game and worth the entry £.

If you want to be “ entertained” go to the Movies - the objective of a Football Club is to win games

we had an additional £300K spent on the squad this year compared to the previous 2 Seasons - at best we will make the Playoffs

No better than the last Three Seasons - so changing manager - increasing budgets are not cutting it

Maybe its a mindset thing - where mediocrity is applauded

We were creating chances - not scoring - at HT you change shape put on another forwards - what did we do - nothing

RR then change shape - they negate our play - and even when we do put on a Sub its a straight swap

Where did I say that is where I expected us to be. I would have liked us to be closer to the top than we are, but I am not getting my knickers in a twist about it.
