lady-isobel-barnett
Can you properly date the origins of any of these cliches? Are any of them solely of this new century? At the end of the day these things even themselves out.
thebiglemon
At the end of the day these things even themselves out. Not possible to date them but the starter post of 'Locker' I'm sure has just come about in the last 10 years but has spread like a virus
chuck pink
The team move the ball well and their style of play is certainly easy on the eye.

Blues Brother
Not really a football cliché but mainly the preserve of politicians "Let me be clear" Which is quite funny really as Politicians aren't in the business of being clear at all. Barney Rubble
Anything that comes out of Liam McCleod's mouth, basically. 'And XXX YYY takes it down with THAT left foot of his and sends it out to THAT left wing, where Peter Weir controls it and comes back on THAT right foot before crossing it to THAT penalty box for Steve Archibald.............and Willie, surely THAT must have been a penalty to the Dons????????? gerrybritton9
maybe this is stretching it a bit, but i hate it when scots go abroad and the team suddenly belongs to them : "Paul Lambert's Borussia Dortmund" "Ryan Gauld's Sporting" or "Barry Ferguson's Blackpool" I remember once saying to my brother if they did the same in other countries: "Rudi Vata's Celtic" "Gudmundor Torfasson's St Mirren" or "Jakkup Mikkelson's Partick Thistle!????? partickthedog
"They play in a certain way" "He's got them well organised" "Every player knows his job" All nice ways of saying that as his team has no skill or flair, the manager has instructed them to hoof the ball up the park at every opportunity
yoda-jag
this one is definitely new millennium ...... anything to do with "the rangers journey" the only journey rangers made this century, was one of cheating, liquidation, ending of their history timeline, and death. since august 2012, there may be a overspending underachieving imitation wannabe tribute diddy act , that's been working it's way round the seaside leagues grounds but that's a 32 months only journey to date.

theestle
Gary McAllister constantly sing 'lutle' as in 'little' on BT Sport. I don't mind him saying the sang word lutle. But he must in all honesty say it at least 30 times per game. Nice lutle ball. A lutle shove. A nice lulte move. A lutle late there ......... and it goes on constantly. How the guys get picked I never know - is there not a basic test they need to go through.
