Challenge Cup Final @ Livingston 7th April

Thinking about it more I can't see it being at Somerset, the SFL and Ramsdens are going to want to present as polished and professional a match as possible so you'd think they'd play it in a modern 4 sided stadium, I think it will be Livvy.

As for taking 5,000+ and Jags fans coming out of the woodwork I'm not really convinced this tournament is much of a draw for the lapsed fans but we'll see.

Yes LMJ, you are correct, they have used an SPL ground in the past. Im unsure why you digress but very astute of you to spot that.

I am unaware if this fact has any bearing on their decision this year. But as I have said above...

The SFL do not want to hold this years final in an SPL ground and for our game v QOTS, their two choices at this moment are livi and airdrie.

I hope this clears things up for you.

No it doesn't clear anything up, i would love to know how you know for a sure fact?

Anyways the final is sunday 7th so shouldn't be an issue if it is an sfl or spl ground. Hopfully Kilmarnock! Would rather not got to Airdrie or Livi!

The choice of ground could have a considerable bearing on the attendance. Rugby Park, even if it's a bit on the big side, would be the obvious choice bar the politics.

I don't suppose those that make the decision will give a hoot about Sunday travel difficulties or the whether the venue makes for a good day out. So if you rule out the SPL grounds, Hamilton (too small), Airdrie (plastic pitch), Ayr (for aesthetic reasons) then it kinda looks like a fun day out in West Lothian is on the cards. :(

I honestly dont think playing it at Airdrie or Livi will happen. The potential crowd for the match could be pushing 5 figures, and if they have it at either of those 2 grounds the match would have to be an all ticket affair. If its played at Killie or Motherwell, it should be a pay at the gate job, which could increase the crowd due to the possibility of neutrals and last minute decision makers turning up. It would have to be priced right though, say £15 adult and £5 kids.

A beautiful Spring day, watching the 1st division champions demolish the opposition with their version of "Total Football". Whats not to like?

I wouldn't be too unhappy if we were to take 4 and a half to 5 thousand to the final; I think that's more realistic than upwards of 7 or 8 thousand, as much as that would be fantastic. Of course much will depend on how we're doing league-wise by the time the tickets go on sale. Unfortunately, and outside of the hard core of active Jags fans, the final of the Ramsdens against QotS doesn't have quite the allure of a Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden against one of the severely deformed female siblings.

Probably 800, no way we take 8,000 to the final.

I agree; I can't imagine 10 Thistle fans turning up for every one who made the effort yesterday. For a Scottish Cup Final, yes, but not the Ramsden's.

Just another thought: What will Ramsden's do if the guy who pawned the Cup pays to get it back before the final?

Probably best to look at the historic attendances for the final to get some sort of idea how many will turn up.

Big numbers. As was noted above, though, I can't see us multiplying yesterday's Jags attendance 10-fold: maybe, if we are still both doing well in the league, 3k Jags and a bit less Queens?

That would be pretty flat at Rugby Park, but at Somerset if would be brilliant.

There will be more than 3k Jags I reckon.

As for the venue, a work colleague of mine has just told me the venue is between Livingston and Airdrie, his source being someone high up in Ramsdens.

We shall see.

Interesting stats.

Nerd alert: I ran a quick Spearman correlation on the data, and since the first final in 1990 the attendances have been going down significantly (rho = -0.476, p = 0.036). But I'd like to think that Queens fans will look upon it as a real chance to cause an upset and so will turn up in fairly big numbers. If both teams are doing well in the league, I'd be hopeful of getting more than 8,000.

That'll be sad if that's correct. Livingston would have a detrimental effect on attendance and playing on Airdrie's plastic pitch could effect team selection. We'll likely be playing two games a week around then, which could be a problem in itself, playing an additional match on an artificial pitch would only compound the problem.
