javeajag
Rumour going round fyim Dundee Utd News on Twitter that they will be going into administration on Monday Anyone heard anything ? How bad are their finances ?
Garscube Road End
I suspect that admin may be a way to dispose of the higher earners. Apparently 3rd biggest salary bill in Premiership. Points deduction for Championship wouldn't be too tight as they have been piss poor this season. Clear the big contracts and start afresh. Dick Dastardly
Would the points deduction be for this season or next ? Technically they have not been relegated yet
lady-isobel-barnett
I haven't read or heard anything to suggest they are about to go into administration. That said I doubt they're in good fiscal shape and their recent fans group vote of no confidence in the stewardship of their club might well trigger Thomson to say "stuff this for a game of soldiers".
Dick Dastardly
Interesting, but probably not imminent http://stv.tv/sport/football/1351878-boardroom-and-boss-needs-to-changes-says-dundee-united-fans-group/
Mad Mull Jag
I think if United go into Admin, then Killie will follow suit the next day. How can teams lose £750-£800k pa and still be allowed to trade and play. The SPFL/SFA need stringent financial laws to be part of your club licence like in so may other countries
SussexJag
Still would take our stability than doing things we can't afford. Read the other day that Bolton had got to 100 million in debt!!?? Probably to the sugar daddy but that's absurd. Even by the h*ns standards. Hope our sensible approach and commitment to youth and community works in the long run - Archie's created a great platform by progressively improving our position. Biggest risk at present is that we lose him.

Woodstock Jag
I thought they cleared their bank debt a few years ago? Bizarre.
topcat
Don,t understand this Rumour. I thought Dundee Utd were actually quite well off after selling most of there crown jewels. (Gauld,Armstrong, Mckay Stevens, Robertson). That was about £6 million quids worth of business itself
lady-isobel-barnett
I thought they cleared their bank debt a few years ago? Bizarre. As of course did Killie, who are now looking equally as financially dodgy as United. in fact probably worse..
sabbath
Time for major league reconstruction. Scotland cant survive without teams such as the Hibs; Morton; St Mirren: Dundee Utd; Kilmarnock; Dunfermline even Falkirk. this is not the time to gloat but to rebuild...................18 team top league, 2 up 2 down
jaggybunnet
Don't know how accurate it is but interesting reading anyway. http://miltonsfootballfinance.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/dundee-united-financials.html?m=

Lambies Lost Doo
More teams in the top league = smaller share of pie so everyone loses out. There is no proof it would work. For Dundee United and Kilmarnock it shows the good job the board and management have done at Thistle. Small resources. Clearing debt. Breaking even. Budgeting for low finishes and no cup runs so anything better is a bonus. Very prudent. Teams such as Rangers, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United have shown us of you spend more than you earn then you will eventually suffer.
Rid Skwerr
Don't know how accurate it is but interesting reading anyway. http://miltonsfootballfinance.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/dundee-united-financials.html?m=1 I can't say I understood all the financial ins and outs, but it looks to me that the Thomson family want out and have prioritised the repayment of their loans over those from outsiders to the financial detriment of the club. It also chimes with the rumours that Steven Thomson is about to put his shares on the market. He'll be hoping that this blog doesn't come to the attention of potential buyers (or the more volatile among the fan base).

It didn't take any of these teams to drive home the lesson at Firhill, although they may serve as timely reminders
Mr Bunny
We learned our lesson in 2000 after we almost went belly up. It didn't take any of these teams to drive home the lesson at Firhill, although they may serve as timely reminders Although we never got into as serious a situation again as the Save the Jags campaign, incompetence by boards have got us into (for us) big debt more than once since then. Our current good situation came about due to big help from the Weirs without whom we'd be building up another big debt. No club can afford to get blase about this and I hope our board can keep us in a no-debt or at least low-debt situation.
eljaggo
I agree Mr Bunny, and the bottom line is that all clubs need people like the Weirs. For Thistle, crowds of 3000 - 4000 every fortnight or so is unsustainable without further and repeated investment to keep debt down, and those low crowds might be Alan Archibald's achilles heel. The Board may decide - perhaps next season - that a more attacking style of play is needed to boost attendances and help balance the books. Lenziejag
I am not sure that any club in Scotland can survive on the income from games. Everyone one of them need the sponsorship money too.
Jaggernaut
Apart from Muirhead, any other of the Arabs' released players potentially worth a contract at Firhill? How about Paul Paton?
King Kenny
No to Paton. I'd have taken Ryan Dow a few years ago but not so sure now. Think he's off to St Johnstone anyway
