Partick Thistle Women - Season 24/25

Recommended Posts

I see that Motherwell are offering free entry for the game at Fir Park a week on Sunday. We're doing the same at Firhill this Sunday. I know it's trying to encourage people to go along but I would have thought it would be better to offer half price tickets. At least then there is some income but still an incentive.

There is a lot of sense in charging even a minimal price (or, for that matter, letting people pay what they want to), as the public attending then puts some kind of value on it.

Agreed. A "trust" or donation box would be in order; but maybe better to make it available especially on the way in, not out

A Desmond at Firhill today with the team coming back from 2-0 down. Watched on youtube but was also looking at the golf (with GB&I winning the Curtis Cup) so can't comment too much on the performnance but did see the Aberdeen keeper make a great save with around 15 mins to go and us being denied a clear penalty again late on.

Looked like being one of these days. Thistle dominated possession, but Aberdeen were much more threatening in their sporadic attacks, and scored 2 well-taken goals. Thistle had been very disjointed, but in last 20 minutes started to really put it together. At that point the Aberdeen goalkeeper made some brilliant saves. The referee took a hand as well, denying Thistle a penalty for a clear handball.

When it seemed that all was lost, Thistle found a way to score and then threw the kitchen sink at Aberdeen and finally secured an equaliser. There were 2 good chances for a winner after that, but you cannot complain too much when the team comes back from 2 behind with 5 minutes to go!

Emma Lawton at right full back was superb, at a different level to every other player on the pitch.

The Aberdeen team was quicker and stronger, but the Jags women played a more attractive game. The latter's attacks were predictable, and lumping high balls into the box for headers was never going to look sophisticated, while the ball down the right channel for Lawton was repeated again and again. The subs seemed to be very effective, but what is really needed is a big, dominant centre back (ideally, two), especially since the goalkeeper (unlike her Aberdeen opposite number) is not the tallest.

Emma Lawton is always one of the most impressive players no matter who she's up against, the "big" 3 included. I was surprised she signed on for another season, destined for bigger things eventually I would think.

Just watched the highlights v Motherwell, 3 of the 4 goals scored from well outside the box, just wish the men's team would try and shoot on sight a bit more often,

Also from the highlights: very little evidence of useless and almost endless side-to-side passing without even making any effort to get forward, which is of course the men's team's speciality.

It's gutting news from a Thistle perspective, but I'm chuffed that Emma is getting a well deserved chance of full-time football.

It's a reflection too on the coaching staff at the Club. Brian and Ross have played a huge part in her development. It's not just Emma either. Abbie Ferguson came on leaps and bounds while on loan. Now on a full-time professional contract at Hibs. Ava Easdon showed maturity beyond her years while on loan with us last season. Signed her first full-time contract elsewhere on the back of that.

Players come to Thistle and become better players for that. So, yes, it's gutting that Emma is moving on but there should also be pride in the role Partick Thistle WFC have played in her development.

There will be even more pride when the inevitable full Scotland caps follow.
