A 3-0 defeat against Celtic today but we still retain our top 6 place.

It looks like we have had a very difficult first 6 games, with 3 against the full-time top 3, one against Hibs who are close to full-time, and 2 against teams who might be trying to challenge our top 6 place, namely Aberdeen and Motherwell. That means to complete the first round we have the final tough one against Hearts (who are equivalent to Hibs), plus 4 against the teams who are likely to be fighting relegation (Montrose, Queens Park, Spartans and Dundee United). The games have still to be won, but must at least give us a reasonable chance of solidifying 6th place, though as always aspiring for anything higher requires a quantum leap.

You are absolutely correct. For some reason I thought that we had played 6 games, when in fact we have played 7, beating Spartans along the way. With apologies for that error, I think that my general point still holds, that the next few games hold out the prospect of more potential points than  our previous difficult run, so hopefully we can establish a gap from the teams below and make at least some indentation on the gap to the teams above!

I agree. Unfortunately, we haven’t managed to lay a glove on the teams above us.

Very good result today which keeps us in 6th place. Our main challenger for 6th at the moment seems to be Motherwell whom we beat recently 4-0 at Motherwell.

Next weeks games are interesting. We are at home to Hearts and Motherwell are away to Rangers.

I think we have a better chance of beating Hearts as games, with one exception that I can recall, tend to be quite close affairs, than Motherwell have of beating Rangers.

We need the team to be on form as a team and a fair referee. In the games I have watched live the referees have been very biased in favour of Hearts.

If we can do something against Heart we will put some distance between us and Motherwell.

Fingers crossed we are due a result against Hearts.

Any chance we could play the Jambos men’s team ?

Back to Petershill today for League Cup action Spartans. Obviously we got to the final of this competition last season so would be nice to see if we can replicate that but Spartans are always tricky opponents from the times I have seen them so won't be easy.

A 3 nil defeat against Hearts today but we more than matched first half but always difficult against a full time and very physical side.

Yup, physical and tall....they made full use of the big pitch and we played too narrow and couldn't cope with their height....apart from that not a huge amount in it, but just too many gaps between the lines that hearts exposed all too often

A trip to Montrose today with a 1pm kick off. With 5 of the top 6 fairly much decided this is the type of game we need to win to clinch another top 6 place so lets hope we can do it.

1-1 draw today, although we did at least fight back to secure the point. BBC reports (for what they are worth) seem to indicate that we had most of the pressure, but the result could easily have gone either way.

Looks like the higher resourced Hibs and Hearts have taken a step closer to the even more highly resourced Glasgow threesome, whereas last season's Bottom 6 have taken a step closer to us. Motherwell slightly ahead just now, although that may iron itself out by the time all teams have played each other once.

I am wondering if PTFC are now identified as an attainable Top 6 scalp, meaning that the "former Bottom 6" raise their game against us. Accordingly it may not be so much that PTFC are slipping back, but it is more that we are coming under a heavier challenge from teams keen to make their mark.

Tom Hosie and others better informed may provide a more accurate perspective on the above.

From the highlights I thought it looked like a good, entertaining match, with Thistle playing some nice passing football and unlucky not to score a few more. So I was surprised to see BBG so critical of the players and saying it wasn't good enough.

Maybe his frustration at the men's team performances spilling over?
