Lyle Taylor

I have to question the manager's decision to (again) spend much of the summer pinning hopes on a player we were never financially going to be able to afford, especially when we knew weeks in advance what league we were going to be in. I just hope there is a plan b this time after Eccleston was brought in as a panic signing.

Stick to the arrows, Hankey!

http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/27359098 - had so many targets we went into the season with one striker and then panicked on Eccleston when that went tits up

http://sport.stv.tv/...alan-archibald/ - Enquired to Scunthorpe, waited and waited, when he was never going to sign and hes went elsewhere, as with last year.

We've got one guy on trial who has scored once in his career so hopefully we'll get lucky and that'll stick as a backup plan!

We weren't in any position to hurry things up as he was a "signed" player with Scunthorpe. Like last season he has plumped for another club. Good luck to him. Be surprised if Archie didn't have other targets given that a transfer fee and hefty wages (for us anyway) would have been involved. The time to moan (if required) is when we see just what our striker situation is when the teams run out at Hamilton in just over two weeks time.

And here it is from Archie's mouth in the local Scunthorpe paper http://www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk/Lyle-Taylor-leaves-Scunthorpe-United-Sheffield/story-26898742-detail/story.html

“If we get someone and we’re really happy with that then we’ll have to go with it but first and foremost we would like to get Lyle back. But as I say it is not up to us, it is up to Scunthorpe.”

So aye, but let's see what the backup plan is....

So you know for a fact that Archie only ever looked at Lyle??? :frantic:

Very disappointed to lose out again on Lyle Taylor, though not unexpected. He is a very good striker at our level and one also open to further improvement. I think maybe he will get more money down south but Scotland the only place he has done well and career wise this could be the wrong move, only time will tell.

James Alibi is an interesting Trialist, the worry about him he has not done much in several loan spells at clubs at a similar level as us. He is only 20 though and I am sure Archie has probably has him watched last season and also have several tapes of his games. I wonder if Archie will hold off making a decision on him till maybe the Wigan and Rotherham games. A chance to see him against good opposition will give us more about his ability. We certainly do need another striker and they are not easy to get quality when shopping on our budget.

It has seemed pretty obvious for the last week or so that Lyle Taylor was not going to sign for us so the news was no great surprise. I wonder if his pal Higgy moving on was a factor.

His finishing could best be described as hit and miss...and sometimes score. But I'm still a bit disappointed he won't be with us this season. He has been and would be an asset to the team - he was strong and fast, gave us a different option and for a loan player he was admirably enthusiastic. He also scored some important goals.

We will have to reserve judgement until we actually see whoever we sign as a striker play. Let's hope some gems can be found. In my view, a team with an on form O'Donnell, Higgy & Taylor would give us an edge over most of the other SPFL teams. It's particularly galling that they and Fox have all moved to teams we would not regard as significantly higher grade clubs but presumably able to pay higher wages.

That reminds me of the most disappointing feature of last season - so few Thistle fans actually went to Firhill to see the team play.

Heading to Wembley. Scored the goal that put AFC Wimbledon into play off final. His 22nd of the season.

Congrats.

Hahaha, beat me to it. Watched and loved every minute of it. Never gave a thought to watching the B movie on telly tonight; that Europa thingmy. The Dons have been my English team since the Crazy Gang days as I always likened them to Thistle: poor relations in the big city; next to no money; great, diehard fans - small in number but with massive hearts.

Been to watch them - pre Milton Keynes nonsense - several times in the 90s. Absolutely delighted for them, especially our own itinerant son, LT. Big Akinfenwa - a giant both in stature and as team player. Great night and now seriously considering making the trip to Wemburlee. Great being a Jag (and part time Don). Yeehah.

Watched the game last night and on Saturday. LT was fizzing when he got subbed on Saturday, but it all came good for him last night. Showed what we have missed this season. He even put in a shift when The Beast came on and he was moved out wide. Still think that if we had managed to sign Taylor this season, we would have ended up 4th!

We evidently came within a whisker of signing him and we came within a whisker of a top six finish. Maybe if we had a Player Fund in operation things may have turned out differently? Just saying.

I knew I should have shaved at the start of the season.

Now that our season's finished and our Premiership status is secured for a record-breaking 4th consecutive season - with many more to follow that - I now have the luxury of diverting my attention elsewhere today.

A big 'good luck' to Lyle Taylor and the magnificent AFC Wimbledon for this afternoon's Wembley play-off final v Plymouth. How nice it would be to see LT score the winning goal and get the (real) Dons into League One. Would also be nice if big Adebayo Akinfenwa were to make a significant contribution, off the bench, to the incredible story of the rise of this amazing club.

In England (genuinely not sure if that situation is also in place in Scotland) there is a 'twinned town' arrangement with comparably sized, usually European towns - now, if we could have twinned clubs . . .
